Basil is truly an awesome restaurant. Fill transparency, I dine in at Basil atleast 3-4 times weekly. Food freshly prepared, the pho is properly cooked with just the right amount of salinity and spices, the rice plates are generous and inexpensive, and the appetizers are all made in house. Complimentary tea for each guest if requested. You really do get a lot of food for so little cost. Honestly one of my favorite parts about Basil is how quickly they seat you once you step thru the front door. In a world and restaurant market that has declining and slow customer service, Basil stands out as beacon in a hill for fast casual Vietnamese cuisine. The owner of the restaurant regularly works shifts and is in touch with his customers and employees, I see him bussing tables and ringing up Customers at the register. The owner also hires very capable and friendly staff and very clearly trains and disciples them in win-win customer service. They all seem very happy with their employment. Shout out to Ann, Martin, and Max especially, they give me a warm welcome wherever I come in to visit and they’re so kind. The restaurant is generally well kept and clean which, tables and menus are wiped down after every guest leaves, and there are two bathrooms in the back that are also generally well kept and tidy. Usually I feel like fast casual Asian restaurants lack in the cleanliness aspect (my grandmother was an Asian restaurant owner and she was the cleanest) but Basil is definitely an exception to this.
I will say that during peak rush hour times (like lunch and dinner service times) the restaurant can become very busy and if you’re sitting around during these times not actively eating/drinking, management/the owner will ask if you will be ordering anything else, then they’ll otherwise ask you to complete your meal and pay promptly. I understand that this is to keep wait times for new patrons to a minimum but it can leave a proverbially bad taste in some customers minds when they think about returning to Basil; customers don’t like being rushed.
Overall I love Basil. I love the food, I love the employees, I love the prompt service. I’ll be a patron for a very long time. Cheers and thanks for filling my belly for all these years...
Read moreI don’t think I will return. When I walked through the door a kid behind the counter asked me if I was there for pick up; I said no. He then asked me again; I said no a second time. Then he asked if I wanted to place an order to go; I said “no, I would like to eat here.” He looked at me like I had offended him. Confused, I asked; “ is that ok?” He said it was. Another kid took my order, “for here.” I sat down. A waitress came to the table and gave me some napkins, and asked if I was waiting for food, I said “yes.” When my food was brought out it was in “to go” containers. I (again) mentioned that I had wanted to eat “here”, the kid said he “could fix it for me.” I left with my packages. I don’t have anyplace to eat my food as my apartment is being worked on and my furniture is stacked. But I guess I will eat soup over my carpet. I really don’t understand. Other people were eating in the restaurant. I feel very put out and unappreciated. I’ve yet to try the food.... well, there are other Vietnamese restaurants that I like.
Update: the food I brought home was good, with the exception of the vermicelli noodles. They were packed separately and had been slightly cooked.... they were all stuck together in a glued mass. Being treated like a non person is a big deal. Customer service matters. Especially now. Everything is home delivered. If sit down restaurants expect to make ends meet, they need to make customer...
Read moreI don't often take the time to write a review, but for this place... I certainly need to express my love and appreciation.
In September of 2020, my wonderful boyfriend took me to Basil for the first time. I grew up having pho over at my neighbor's home. Being a first generation Vietnamese family, they cooked authentic pho that the ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD was so excited to come over and have on a regular basis. Life changed and I had to move, so I have been searching for that authentic bowl of perfect pho ever since then.
Flash forward to that Basil date with Tyler- I was HOOKED. From walking in and being greeted with a smile that felt like a hug... to the WONDERFUL food that tasted to similarly to the dish I grew up loving as a kid... to the staff remembering me and my order as I came in for dine in, and now order via Uber due to COVID-19. Basil is wonderful- they listen to your requests, and make you feel like a part of their restaurant family. I am always so bummed when I for some reason need to go somewhere else.
So please- GO NOW! Get yourself a bowl of pho. Do it- you know you want to! My most favorite thing to order is a #10, which is fatty beef and steak. If ordering to-go (because that is just the way of the world right now) I always ask for some chili oil too, as Tyler likes his spicy.
You really can't go wrong with this place. Have fun,...
