No one is more excited than me to have Guam food near my house. It is so difficult to find good Guam food in the states, let alone the PNW. I didn't go in with the strongest expectations based on past experiences with Chamorro restaurants. BUT I am so delighted to say that I plan on being a returning, loyal customer.
Starting with the service-it felt like the kind of service I'd get back home. NOBODY can beat Chamorro hospitality. We were greeted by the wife. As any good Chamorro knows, she is the boss and she was great!
The buchi buchi was the best I've ever had. So many people make it "bready" but they made it airy and the pumpkin filling was not too sweet-it was absolutely perfect.
Chicken and ribs were good too. Maybe a little longer on the marinade and some more lemon to it, but still solid on the meat. The shrimp patty-I was in heaven.
The red rice was flavored very, very well. The cucumber kimchi was great!
The latiya was definitely made with love. The custard was not too sweet, the coconut flavor was beautiful. The only feedback I had here was the sponge needed to be fluffier. This is not going to stop me from ordering it again.
The only pieces of feedback I have: The empanada-the dough needs to be less thick and the corners need to be crunchier. Maybe even a little more spice. The fried stuff was amazing but I think there needs to be a better way to store it so the fried food keeps it structure. I wish there was stronger spicy levels. However, I get it. The peppers in the states are not hot. No matter how much you put it in, it is not going to be strong. (Even I have my family send me dried peppers from Guam because I can't find anything remotely spicy here).
I have immensely high hopes for this place. I can only hope they start catering as they get bigger. I highly...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of visiting Guam Grub for the second time, and we are confident that you will love their food. Let me tell you why.
First, the experience of learning how to cook authentic Chamorro dishes from the discerning, old school Chamorros in Talofofo, Guam has made me quite picky when it comes to Chamorro food. Since moving to Washington, I haven't found anything that truly satisfies my cravings. But Guam Grub's food is a delightful exception. It's like enjoying a home-cooked meal without having to do the cooking myself.
Second, the value for the price is incredible. They serve generous portions that remind me of the feasts we have back home during village fiestas. And the hospitality? It's like being welcomed into someone's home.
Now, let's talk about the taste. We ordered the fiesta plate, and it was so abundant that my husband and I had to share. I'm usually not a fan of pound cake in latiya, preferring sponge cake instead. But let me tell you, their version was surprisingly good and light. And the empanadas! My grandmother used to make the best ones, with the perfect crunch and spice in the filling. Guam Grub's empanadas brought back those nostalgic flavors. And don't get me started on their Buchi Buchi I used to have it every morning before school, and theirs is just as delicious as I remember.
Even my picky eater of a husband loved the Chamorro food at Guam Grub. They have definitely won his approval.
I gave the atmosphere a 3-4 because I’m not a fan of the mall location. They need their own restaurant then you’ll experience the true island spirit and hospitality. 🏝️🇬🇺😊❤️
Guam Grub does an outstanding job of representing the flavors and hospitality of Guam. We highly recommend giving them a try. Trust me, it's...
