The Valley Organic Deli — Restaurant in Everett

My husband and I went into Valley Organic Deli yesterday for lunch. We've been there several times in the past and always enjoyed their salads and sandwiches. As we approached the counter, we saw a customer appearing visibly upset, asking whether the cook had been wearing a mask while preparing her food. He was standing in the doorway of the kitchen and was not wearing any mask. He shook his head, appearing unconcerned. The young women at the cash register, who was wearing a mask that was pulled down around her chin, confirmed to the customer that the cook had not worn a mask to prepare her food. The customer left on the verge of tears, looking shaken and disgusted.

I am pregnant and high-risk, and have been careful about food safety at restaurants since the coronavirus hit. I asked the woman at the counter (who still had her mask pulled down around her chin) if it was true that the cook would not be wearing a mask to prepare my salad. She said, "No, he won't be wearing a mask". It made me feel uncomfortable that not only would the person preparing my raw food not take basic steps to ensure my, and my unborn child's, safety, but that the cashier directly interacting with the public at less than 6 feet distance would also be so dismissive of both her own safety and the safety of others by not wearing her mask appropriately. There was also no clear plastic cough barrier at the cash register to protect both cashier and customers.

My husband and I apologized, cancelled our order, and left. As much as we like the food at this restaurant, their lack of care for the safety of their customers during this difficult and scary time makes us unwilling to go...

I was very excited to try this deli for the first time. We haven't gone to many restaurants due to COVID and recently moving to the area. First, I would like to say... the menu seems delicious. A bit expensive, but good (I fished out $35 for this poor experience)

Unfortunately, from the time I placed my order at 2:15 to the time I walked in at 2:35 (my expected pickup time) I was disappointed. After 20 minutes of waiting in my car, they still were not ready when I came in to pick them up. It took quite a long time to make two sandwiches and a wrap, when I walked in there was one person sitting at a table. And two employees (enter issue #2), who were not wearing face masks. One employee had a mask hanging down around her chin, she told me that it was to hard to breath with it on. The other (who seemed like a manager) had no mask and told me that masks don't actually help prevent the transmission of COVID-19... hmmm... ok buddy, are you now apart of the CDC and are able to advise people on these things? My husband is a Biologist and could teach you a lesson about virus transmission if you like?

I asked for my money back and for some reason they were unable to provide to me a receipt showing that the transaction had been cancelled and I would be refunded.

Anyway, these people at this restaurant handling your food are not following proper guidelines set by the CDC about reopening during the global COVID-19 pandemic. I wouldn't trust eating here, who knows if they are even sanitizing surfaces correctly if they have such blatant disregard for their customers health to not wear masks? I will never spend my money at...
