Went here for lunch last weekend. We picked the buffet. Being vegetarian we were terribly disappointed with the quality and selection of food. The appetiser was a mix vegetable fritter it was cold, loaded with chickpea flour and flavorless plus it smelt like stale oil.
The main course had a mix vegetable dish which was more carrots than anything else
There was a potato eggplant veggie which was relatively alright but again had hardly any flavor
The third vegetarian dish was saag paneer which was not served authentically but passable.
The fourth dish was daal makhani and for me this was the most disappointing.
By definition Dal makhani is a rich and creamy North Indian dish of slow-cooked lentils, beans, spices, butter, and cream. The name translates to "buttery" and the dish is known for its smooth texture and complex flavors.
At Jyot they served some kind of mix daal containing majority pigeon peas and hardly any black urad. The daal had no depth of flavor or cream and called it dal makhani.. as an Indian I feel terribly about our dishes and culture being misrepresented.
The biryani was also flavorless
And sadly the desert of jalebi was soggy limp and just like the rest of the food a huge disappointment.
I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants authentic Indian food. There are plenty of better places in tho area that are actually committed to serving quality food and putting effort into representing Indian culture.
As for the ambience there wasn’t enough light in the dining area and it felt dingy even during the afternoon.
I wrote this review in hopes the management will take note that Indians also visit and dine at their restaurant and we do notice when you serve a random hodgepodge dish and label it daal makhani and we do notice when you cut corners with quality and flavor. Hope you make some serous changes and take this as...
Read moreI discovered Jyot India restaurant by accident while shopping at the indian grocery store next door. So my friend and I decided to try it out. We reception as we walked in was friendly. The place was quiet with maybe only 3 parties at the time we visited. The indian background music was a nice touch...not loud but loud enough to as background without interfering with table conversation. Overhearing the conversation between the chef & staff, it became apparent that they were from the same locality in the northern state of Punjab as the town I grew up in, so was hoping the food to taste "like home." We ordered samosas for appetizer, butter chicken, vegan bartha, onion nann and garlic naan. The samosas were smaller than I expected but very tasty. My friend said that the butter chicken was some of the best he had. As for the bengan bartha I ordered, it was by far the best I've had having sampled the same dish in multiple indian restaurants in San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Washington DC, Little India cluster of restaurants in Los Angeles (Cerritos), Chicago, Newark, Yonkers/ NYC. I've been back twice in 3 days sampling other veggie dishes and was pleasantly surprised with the taste each time. Would highly recommend Jyot India Restaurant to anyone wanting sample authentic delicious north...
Read moreMy family has come to dine twice. The food has been phenomenal both times! We've had their samosa, roti, butter Naan, and garlic Naan. The samosa was light and airy, yet full of flavor and veggies; the Naan fluffy and buttery, and the garlic Naan very delicious with garlic, butter and salt. Per entree, we've tried their saag paneer; I am not usually a saag fan, but even I thought my husband's dish was very good. We've also had their fresh tandoori chicken and two flavoral curry's. Both visits did not disappoint. Our dishes have been very flavoral, fresh, and hot from the kitchen. Our server each time has been very attentive to our table and gracious toward our little one. The food has always come out timely. The dining area is clean, with nicely set tables you'd expect from an Indian restaurant. Give them a try, and you won't be...
