I was in the mood for tacos and wanted to try somewhere new. As the latest trend in the foodie world is finding places that are cost effective, I was on my search. I stumbled upon Don Nachos during my Yelp scroll and decided to give it a try.
Pulling up to Don Nachos I realized I have driven past it numerous times and never realized it was there. As it sits next to the BP Gas station, it was easy to access from the main road.
Upon walking in, the area is very vibrant and colorful. The bartender welcomed us in and as we were eating in he advised we could sit anywhere we wanted. Heading to the back booth, the location is very clean and you could smell the good seasonings as you passed the bar to head towards the back. Oh yeah!
After taking a seat, our waiter arrived and provided us with menus and took our drink order. As I flipped through the menu, I was excited to see the variety of options and the cost effective pricing. The menu was very fairly priced for the area and fit within the scope of finding a good meal for under $20.
As our drinks arrived at the table, we were also provided with tortilla chips and salsa. The chips were warm, fresh, and very flavorful. The salsa was mild and a bit bland on the flavor profile, however, the robust flavor profile of the chip enhanced the salsa.
I decided to get the Birria Tacos which come in a set of 3 with the consome as a soup… once the order was placed, the menus were taken and it was back to the chips and salsa.
The food arrived and my hunger immediately went into overdrive. You could smell the freshness coming off the plate. The tacos were meaty and the shell was perfectly done. Oh yes. This is what I wanted!!
Taking the first bite made me close my eyes and begin to chew slowly. The shell was crunchy on the outside which went perfect with the super tender, well seasoned, beef. The beef had a pot roast flavoring to it which made the bites even more enjoyable for me. The meat was so tender that I barely had to chew as it was literally melting in my mouth. I’m talking tender, juicy, flavor screaming beef with no fat. Whew! I’m in love!!!
Don Nachos was a great choice for lunch. The service was good. The food was amazing. The ambiance was super casual and the parking was easy. It’s an all around win. Best of all, lunch for two (with one margarita)...
Read moreThe food is good but the prices are too high and they force you to tip on top of that. The prices are highway robbery prices. After that high price I don’t even feel I need to tip cuz they made so much profit on that little rice and beans they selling for $25….. This tiny thing of cheese is $10. The prices are outrageous here. I think they charge this because it’s one of the only decent Mexican food on the south side. On the north side you can get Mexican food this good for cheaper and no forced tips. If I am not forced to tip and service is good I tip a lot. However I do not appreciate being forced to tip after having to argue with the cashier and waiting 20 mins for my food that I ordered 20 minutes ago already. Why should I tip if they treat my order as disposable and ignore it to make dine-in orders? This tiny thing of queso is $10. Also, ordered online and had to wait 40 mins . Came after 20 minutes thinking it would be ready. Had to wait another 20 minutes. I hate waiting for my food… especially after spending $40… if your prices are that high food needs to be ready fast you can’t give bad service for that high prices. The server lied and said it was because they don’t have control over when the door dash tickets print out. This is a lie. I am a restaurant manager. What happened is that they saw my ticket and ignored it for 40 minutes because they were making dine-in orders. But you’re supposed to make each other as they come each customer is supposed to be equal. The price of the food is outrageous. On top of the ridiculous prices they force you to tip even on to-go orders. So my door dash order should’ve been treated the same as dine-in orders. If a restaurant forces me to tip I tip less. I usually give high tips but I won’t tip any more of the tip is forced because I don’t appreciate that. I shouldn’t be forced to tip if they take 40 minutes to make my food. That’s not service so what is the tip for. $40 and 40 minutes that’s what this place is. You pay high to wait high and have to argue with...
Read moreIt all went downhill when my brother didn’t like the Barria tacos and told the server. She caught an attitude and proceeded to ask why being passive aggressive. And my brother is shy so he just kept saying he just didn’t like it calmly. She then then responded “ Because me and everyone in the back just had some so I don’t know why you don’t like it” took the plate away then walked to the back talking about us in Spanish with the lady that sat us at the table. Then I over heard them talking at the cash register she said “ It’s nothing else I can do” and put the receipt on the table and walked away.
Fast forward I needed a drink Straw for my drink, the server was at the cash register pretending like she couldn’t hear me asking for assistance. Mind you our table is right by hers and she wasn’t busy, restaurant empty as well. When she finally looked at us still standing at the register didn’t walk up to us by the way or respond she went back and got the straw like we asked with an attitude. Fast forward when it was time to go I asked for a to go plate, but she forgot the bag. At that time she was by the bar with her friend who walked away with the plate talking about us in Spanish. Before I even walked up to the bar the server was giving me the side eye, then I asked her for a bag politely.
She didn’t respond at all just gave me nasty looks and walked away. She sat people behind us and served them before giving us a bag. She took 10 mins to give us a bag. At this time the restaurant was still empty so she wasn’t busy at all she wanted to be petty. All this attitude was about not liking their tacos. Mind you I ate there before this bad experience. Do not go here. Their attitudes...
