I've made at least 3 visits so far, and I very much plan to continue visiting when I have errands nearby.
On my first visit, I got a Sunset because I didn't want caffeine in the late evening. I was half expecting to be disappointed, because most boba shops put out subpar non-tea drinks. Not the case here, the fruit flavors were very forward without being cloyingly sweet. Whereas with the toppings, I default to avoiding toppings at boba shops. In my taste, they often detract from the core essence of the beverage. I'm not sure why I didn't ask for the toppings to be removed on my first drink here, but by golly, the Sunset fit together so well.
Second visit, decided to try something beyond my normal. I have a strong dislike of most coconut products that aren't fresh, but I went with their Coco Blue. Didn't disappoint, and the toppings were very appropriate to the flavor profile. The jelly has a snap to it that gives enough chewiness without being bothersome, and it doesn't have the off-putting texture of jelly that's been marinating in syrup for weeks.
Also picked up their popcorn chicken and mini red bean taiyaki. They were considerate enough to ask whether I was taking the chicken to go, and left the top open so that it didn't go soggy from steam. Would've eaten it anyways, but it left the popcorn chicken delightfully crisp even a half hour later. The taiyaki had somehow managed to stay crisp in its own sealed box, yet it was still warm and fluffy on the inside. My partner ate a couple and enjoyed them, but had to stop because they were a bit oily. I still enjoyed them, but there definitely was a noticeable amount of oil. Still an excellent treat, but those with oil sensitivity may want to try...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreYet another new boba spot that popped up in the Fairfield area! Boba Luv took over the vacant spot that used to be another boba place, Bobo Drinks several years ago. It's Hmong-owned and the menu features Hmong and Laotian dishes, along with your usual boba snack fare. The decor inside is cute, and I enjoyed the Twice music they were playing haha.
I ordered the green tea kumquat drink with boba at 25% sweetness. It was tart and tangy, but it was definitely not 25% sweet. A bit too sweet for my liking, but maybe I'll try something else next time. The boba texture was too soft and slightly mushy, didn't exactly have the perfect qq texture. Maybe it was an off day but I'll give another drink a next try.
I also got the popcorn chicken and garlic fries. I was expecting the popcorn chicken to be Taiwanese style, but it still tasted good. The chicken was juicy and coated with some sort of starch, then fried. It was seasoned well, unfortunately since I drove back home 10 mins away, the food wasn't crispy and got soggy. Nothing that an air fryer can't fix, but maybe the snacks are best enjoyed on site.
I'd rate Boba Luv a 3.5, but since they're new I would come back again to try their other items especially the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEvery time I pass through Fairfield I make it a point to stop here. Sometimes I even drive here just to eat at boba luv. (I live over an hour away.) This boba shop doesnāt just serve drinks; theyāve got some of the best food Iāve had. My go-to is always the crispy pork belly with papaya salad, and let me tell you, no one else does it like they do. Iāve had these dishes at tons of Thai and Lao spots, but something about the way this place makes it just hits different. You can taste the love and care in every biteāitās got that real home-cooked vibe thatās hard to find in restaurants. If youāre looking for a place that delivers on both flavor and comfort, this is it. I canāt recommend it enough.
