12/26/24 Not a good skyway week. Got a sky-hi the other day. Virtually no sauce on it. This makes it too dry. Today was a Brady burger. I asked for a side of ski-hi sauce. The burger tasted ok but was swimming in moisture. Couldn't begin to hold it. Burgers like that are a serious FU to the customer. Do better. Train on building hamburgs properly. Best. Swenson's is close but they serve real food at Shyway. Swenson's is dead As a general rule you either like Skyway or Swenson's best in Akron. They have competing signature burgers and I love the Ski-Hi and detest the Swenson's Galley Boy. But they have gone downhill since the sale. Lots of old Swenson's people have given it up for Skyway. Their other stuff, burgers, soda fountain, other sandwiches, mostly push, although I would give the onion rings at Sky-way higher marks than the ones from Swenson's. The Sky-way yum-yum rings are made fresh and the others come frozen. They used to be from Cleveland with the original owners, but they have franchised out and cut mongo corners. I think you can tell the difference, although many people prefer the denser, smaller frozen ones. I'm not as willing to eat at the other place, but I love Sky-way. And...
Read moreAt one time, it was not always easy to find a place to park at Skyway Drive-In Fairlawn. Closing at 9:00 P.M. was unheard of.
Unfortunately, that's no longer the case. Many reasons would account for this, but one reason might be the quality of food that is often served.
My order on Friday, August 16, was basic. One steak sandwich and one order of onion rings.
An employee at Sky-Way, who apparently takes their job for granted, sent out in a to-go order an obvious bunch of over-cooked, burnt onion rings. The entire order was burnt to the point that the order wasn't edible.
The Large family at one time would not tolerate food service like this. Team members worked with pride. Mr. Large always seemed to be there, overseeing the pick-up window in military style.
Sadly, that is no longer the case. Hopefully, management can take steps to avoid service like this...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting Skyway, although I worked in Fairlawn and lived in Ohio all my life. I ordered the Sky-Hi Combo. Wait time was good with an almost empty lot. The fries are to die for! Just perfect! They can advertise on their fries and win. The burger was made of good ground beef, the quality you could taste. The problem was the patties are too small. The bread easily overpowered the meat, and mine was a double, 2 meat patties. Definitely skip on these burgers, but they have a menu of 1/4 and 1/2 lb burgers. They might let you taste the burger. It looked small on the advertisements and I can tell you it is small. Without the great fries, I would say, don't go. It's not great when the fries perform better than the burger. I've gone to Swensons for years, and I have seen their burgers get smaller, but the bun never overpowered their patties. I wouldn't...
