Basil Indian Bistro — Restaurant in Farmington Hills

Four of us went to Basil based on a friend's recommendation. Upon walking into the place our first impressions were - wow! what a great ambiance. Unlike many other Indian restaurants it is tastefully decorated and very well ventilated. You don't have to worry about leaving your clothes in the laundry room when you get home! We like to try different food and restaurants and have driven over an hour and half to go try a place, fortunately this place happens to be close by.

This is what we ordered. I am sharing this mainly to show that this review is not based on one dish of no salt or something trivial, but also realize that this is still a very small sampling of their menu:

Appies: Vegetable pakora, chicken chilli

Main Baigan Bharta, Chicken Curry, Chicken Karahi, Spicy Mumbai Street Style Tawa Pulao,Garlic Naans

Dessert Gulab jamun, Suji ka halwa, shrikhand

Drinks Bourbon and Beer (very reasonably priced)

A couple of highlights: The food was very fresh. Pakora were outstanding. Bharta was fresh, very flavorful and tasty, as were the chicken dishes, rice pulao, naan (could be better), and chicken chilli was different, but enjoyed it just the same. Desserts were very good. Again, Shrikhand has a different take but very flavorful and tasty. Our server was attentive, available and very informed. This was a refreshing change for sure.

We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner at Basil Indian Bistro, and it was absolutely perfect. Hema, the Owner, went above and beyond. She personally walked us through every detail leading up to the event and even decorated the banquet room for us.

The banquet space itself is gorgeous: high ceilings with unique hanging lights, beautiful marble tables, big windows, and plenty of parking for guests. We had just over 100 people, and it felt spacious yet warm and inviting.

The food was incredible with authentic Indian dishes that our guests raved about. For those who were less familiar with Indian cuisine, the Basil team thoughtfully prepared American-style pizzas and pastas so everyone felt comfortable and taken care of. The full bar (complete with specialty cocktails like a coconut margarita we’re still craving!) was another highlight.

Had been here for dinner and we enjoyed everything we ordered to the fullest! I would go again! We started with hot n sour soup, I was expecting it to have soy sauce but it looked more like clear soup but tasted well. Chicken seekh kabab and coconut shrimp was too good. Chilli chicken and gobi chill were good too. This place has chili naan which was something different and the naan was super soft and fluffy. Layered paratha was super soft- felt like home cooked parathas. We ordered hyderabadi chicken, hyderabadi paneer and chicken kalimirch. I would not prefer to have chicken kalimirch here again as that was a bit sweet. The hotel manager and staff were really sweet as they said we can let them know in advance if we wish to order something specific like vada pav.
