This was our first time trying out Tupelo! Weāve always heard great things about their downtown location, but since the Farragut one is closer to us, we decided to give it a try.
We asked to be seated outside on the patio and were told to wait a couple of minutes while they dried the seats to make sure nothing was still wet from the rain earlier. After waiting, the host took us to a picnic table, but only one side of the bench was actually dry. No big deal ā we just dried the rest ourselves. What surprised me, though, was that after looking around, all of the other tables were still wet too, so Iām not sure what exactly had been dried while we waited.
Our server, a young girl, greeted us right away and took our drink and appetizer order. She was very friendly and pleasant! However, it seemed like there were only two servers (her and one other guy who had a shadow with him) taking care of the patio area, even though there were quite a few tables outside. I completely understand how busy it can get ā Iāve worked in the restaurant industry myself ā but Iām also a big believer in teamwork and helping each other out when it comes to keeping up with tables.
Unfortunately, our service was very slow. Our glasses were empty for at least 20 minutes. The bartender came outside to deliver drinks to the table in front of us, and I made eye contact with her, even picked up my empty glass and set it at the edge of the table, hoping someone would notice that both mine and my husbandās drinks were empty ā but she didnāt say anything or offer to let our server know. We finally got refills once our food arrived.
We also wanted more ranch for our fried pickles, but after our server took our drink and appetizer order, we never saw her again until much later. The other gentleman serving outside was the one who actually brought our food out, and when he asked if we needed anything else, we mentioned refills and ranch. Even after that, we waited another five minutes or so ā during which our food was just sitting there getting cold ā while he continued bringing things to his other tables, though he couldāve easily grabbed the ranch or refills for us. I ended up eating my chicken sandwich without ranch because by the time it finally arrived, I was already halfway done.
As for the food itself, my chicken sandwich was overcooked and really tough ā it was even hard to cut through with a knife. I also felt like it was lacking in flavor. Grits are different but good, Mac N cheese was full of flavor! We also tried their biscuits and jam and I thought maybe the biscuits were a little salty.
Overall, the service was extremely slow, and while I donāt mind waiting when a place is busy, I do think keeping drinks filled and checking in occasionally makes a big difference. Itās always nice to get checked on, even while youāre still waiting on your food ā you donāt necessarily have to forget about a table just because their meals havenāt come out yet. I would consider giving Tupelo another try in the future and updating my review if the experience improves, but based on this first visit, itās going to take a little...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe ate at this beautiful new restaurant yesterday for breakfast after our weekly visit next door to the SweatHouz for contrast therapy. Upon entering we were met with Smiles and Pleasantries, which is always a Breath of Fresh Air. We didnāt have reservations, but were seated quickly as it wasnāt too busy at 930am on a Sunday morning. We were sat by Heather, and Abigail provided our service. Both were Super Customer Service oriented, seemed Genuinely Kind and provided Exceptional service. Thank you, Ladies š The food was Scrumptious. My husband had the Farmhouse Breakfast Platter which consisted of Scrambled Eggs with cheese, Parmesan rosemary potatoes, Chorizo and added a side of Grits with Goat Cheese. The eggs were light and fluffy just the way we like them. The potatoes were crispy with a nice not too powerful flavor. The Chorizo was also crispy and flavorful. The grits were light and airy with just the right amount of goat cheese, not too much. I had the Lifeās a Peach Chicken and Waffles. They were delicious. The waffles were slightly sweet, light & fluffy without being soft as they are cooked more on the well done side without being over cooked. This is the way I like to make them at home. The peach compote with pecans was delicious and not too sweet. The chicken had a good seasoned crust but the chicken itself was a bit bland. I expected for it to have had more of a brined flavor, which would make it more flavorful and more tender. It was probably just a mishap for a new restaurant and will be better next time I try it. The presentation of the food was thoughtful and appealing. We liked it. Itās always nice when itās noticeable that more care has been taken with anything in life. For a new restaurant, which can take a while to work out kinks, this one is doing Very Well. We had a really good experience and will be back. I forgot to mention I signed up for their loyalty program the night before we went and received a free biscuits appetizer. I just showed the confirmation email to Abigail and she got approval from management. The biscuits were buttery and delicious. We chose to try the gravy with them. It was different than the typical white gravy, but it was good. Weāll try the jelly or the honey butter next time. They also provide a military discount with a valid id. This is always a plus considering less than 1% of our population, and their families, makes the sacrifice to serve and protect the other 99%. Any little bit of appreciation towards them is Heartwarming! All in all it was a Good Time with Great Service and Delicious Food! Thank...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreāļøāļøāļøāļøāļø We had such a wonderful lunch here today! Macey was an absolute dollāfriendly, attentive, and on top of everything. She kept our sweet tea glasses full without us ever having to ask and made sure we felt completely taken care of the entire time.
We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes, and wow⦠I wish I had remembered to take a picture because they were hands down the best Iāve ever had! Perfectly crisp on the outside, tender inside, and paired with creamy goat cheese grits, that tangy sauce, and a hint of basil, just perfection. Whoever came up with that combo deserves a raise.
For our main course, I ordered the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Sandwich with a side of Mac & Cheese, and it absolutely rocked! The chicken was crispy, juicy, and full of flavor, and the mac was that creamy, comfort-food kind of good. My husband went with the Chicken Tenders and fries, and I swear I blinked and they were gone, it was that good.
The overall experience was fantastic. The only small hiccup was the floor... it looked like whoever closed the night before didnāt give it the best cleaning job. But honestly, the food and service were so great it didnāt take away from the experience at all.
If you havenāt been here yet, go! The food is delicious, the service is warm and genuine, and itās definitely worth the visit. Weāll be...
