Akari Sushi — Restaurant in Fernandina Beach

I’ve been here twice now and both times were disappointing. After the first time, I had no intentions of returning but last night my family was meeting up for dinner and they chose Akari so I figured I would give it one more shot. It was absolutely terrible. We got there at 6pm on a Friday night and were seated right away. Ordered appetizers and drinks. Once the appetizers and drinks came out, our server took our main order and after that we never saw her again. About 20 min past, our mains came out except for 2 of them. All of our waters were empty and all of our empty appetizer dishes were never cleared from our table. We wait another 10 min hoping for the remaining 2 dishes to come out so we could all eat together. Finally I walk inside to the kitchen to speak with someone and both of our missing dishes are just sitting in the heat lamp window. I ask when they would bring them out and the waitress who disappeared earlier just kind of mumbled. I then told them all of us needed water too as we’ve had no refills. No response. So I walk back out and a few minutes later they bring the remaining entrees and fill our water. I also had to ask if they could clear some of our empty appetizer plates. With everything that happened there was no apology or any sort of remorse on their behalf. The original waitress never came out again, the young boy who brought our dishes and waters was making it obvious he was very annoyed with us. After we ate we waited around for a bit to see if our check would be brought, nobody ever came. My mom ended up going inside to ask to pay the bill. It wouldn’t have been a big deal if the food made up for the service, but the food is subpar and the portions are super small! My husband and i came here tonight for the first time for date night. It was a chilly, windy evening so the outside seating was not available. Inside is very small but we were able to sit right away. I didn't like how we had to go back up to the register to order and pay right away. We both got a beer and since we had already paid, neither of us felt like going back up to order another one to have to pay again. We ordered sever rolls and sashimi pieces. They were served on paper plates and individual soy sauce servings were given to us ... nothing on the tables and I am assuming this was because of covid. Asked for shrimp sauce which they brought to us ... also individual servings. That being said, the rolls were very good and fresh. We will try it again but perhaps on a nicer day when we can sit outside and see if any of their current ways of ordering/plating changes...

Great little place in downtown Fernandina Beach for sushi and seafood. Whether you're out for an afternoon walk around town, as I was when I stopped in, or out for an evening looking for dinner, this little place is a great option. Seating both inside and outside on the porch (is a converted old house) to choose from. It was a bit chilly the day I stopped, so I opted for inside. Great service from a shy but friendly staff and great options for everything from basic rolls to house specials, plus sashimi and fried rolls, too. I opted for a spicy tuna roll and a house special roll with more tuna on the inside paired with salmon, white tuna, and ahi tuna sashimi on the outside. Great presentation and flavor.
