My husband and I went for a late Valentine’s Day last night. The space looked cool and upscale. Did not like the shared bench-style tables. Didn’t feel very intimate. Hard to have a conversation when there is a table to our right and left within arm’s reach. We sat for about 10 minutes before our server came. She was very nice once she came. Our drinks were fine, but nothing to write home about.
We ordered the charred Brie for our appetizer. Must be a misnomer as there was nothing charred on it. It seemed to be a baked Brie with orange marmalade and rosemary. The inside was lukewarm. It was served with crackers. Just okay.
I ordered the wedge. I love a wedge salad, but this was also just okay. My husband had the Caesar and it was pretty basic.
For entrees, I ordered the NY strip and my husband the filet cooper style. My steak was pretty good. My husband enjoyed the topping on his filet.
The sides left a lot to be desired. The mashed potatoes tasted like the kind that come from the Bob Evans container. They had sour cream on them and scallions that were more of a garnish than something you could really eat with the potatoes (long and curly). I was sad that the table did not have salt or pepper as there was no real flavor to the potatoes. $10 for about 1.5 cups of bland potatoes. Our other side was the creamed spinach. It was better than the potatoes, but didn’t have much cream or flavor.
We decided to skip dessert since the rest of the meal had been lackluster. Our server brought out 2 chocolate chip cookies with our check. It would have been a nice touch but they were cold and tasted a little stale.
Things that surprised me given the upscale vibe they were trying to give off: -no bread basket (you can purchase a bread app) -no tablecloths (being picky but seems strange compared to other steak places) -the table next to us was offered fresh cracked pepper for their salads, we were not -no specials in addition to the menu -menu was VERY uninspired
Needless to say for the money we spent ($230 before tip), we won’t be back. There are just too many other options that give both the upscale feel, a more intimate experience, and much...
Read moreHere's the one line review; without having to read everything below, Cooper & Cow Steakhouse can be summed up in one sentence: "The Cooper & Cow Steakhouse Experience...a new must-go-to Steakhouse when you are in the Indy area." JUST DO IT!!! You'll be glad you did.
Our friend Steve opened a new concept, Cooper & Cow Steakhouse, in Fisher, Indiana, in the Indianapolis area. We drove up from Louisville to experience it and were blown away by what we found.
Steve opened in an area that is known for great steakhouses. One that I had never experienced, St. Elmo's Steak House has been around since 1902 and is considered one of the top steakhouses in the area. When we saw that two of their concepts were within walking distance from our hotel, we went and thoroughly enjoyed both. Outstanding meal, and the shrimp cocktail sauce, blazing hot! A reputation well deserved.
We were surprised that Steve picked his first Cooper & Cow Steakhouse location less than a mile from the Huse (St Elmo) Family's two established locations. That's some serious competition. How do you compete with a powerhouse family like that?
Old friends from Louisville joined us for dinner, and we all learned how throughout the night. The employees at Cooper & Cow don't see or even talk about the competition; they excel at every level at what they do best. Exceptional cuisine, service, in an atmosphere that is comfortably elegant but not stuffy!
Cooper & Cow Steakhouse exceeded our expectations on all levels. The Cooper & Cow concept has been very well thought out in every finite detail, including experienced management and servers. The Cooper & Cow chef creates delicious creative dishes from the finest ingredients, presented in a warm, cozy atmosphere of yesteryear with the soothing sounds of Frank Sinatra in the background as you enjoy your fine dining experience like no other.

Read moreMy wife and I go out to a nice dinner once a month and we decided to try this place out last night. While it wasn't terrible, there is certainly room for improvement - especially at this price point. Food was good, but not stellar. We had very high expectations because of the high prices, and at the end of the day, if a restaurant expects to compete at this price point, you need to be top-notch. Sadly, they missed the mark a little bit. PROS: Relaxing atmosphere Drinks were well-made Waitress was friendly and knowledgeable
CONS: Too dark. Why does a restaurant have to be so dark? They should hand out flashlights if they expect us to read the menu. Booth tables are poorly designed. We were seated at a table near the bar and we asked to move because the table was impeding so far into the seats, that we felt like we were trapped in some sort or torture device. Music. The soft jazz is nice, but a little annoying, loud, and too old-fashioned. It's perfect for seniors, I suppose, but most nice restaurants have trended towards more contemporary background music that is more inviting and fun to a younger crowd. Wait time for drinks. It took 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks. The second round took almost 30 minutes (!). Why?? We were one of six tables in the restaurant. It's not like they were slammed. The front door. The front door is made of some cheap air-lock patio aluminum. It looks cheap, slams loudly after you walk through, and leaves a terrible first impression.
The overall experience was about a 6 (on a scale of 10). If the whole experience wasn't so expensive, I would give it a pass on some of the cons, but at this price point you are competing with the big-boy restaurants in the surrounding area like Ocean Prime, Ruth's Chris, Eddie Merlot's, and Harry & Izzy's. Things like waiting 30 minutes for drinks would be unacceptable at...
