I need you to understand, dear reader, what kind of delight you are in for at Derailed should you have the utter luck and fortune to be served by the incomparable Theresa.
Imagine this. After a glorious sleep in the gorgeous Nickel Plate Hotel you wander around admiring the attention to rich locomotive detail in every corner and come upon the restaurant downstairs. You sit down to grab a quick bite before heading off on your adventures, not expecting the highlight of your travels to be found in the sweet smile that greets you “Good morning! What can I get you?” Says this bright angel. And your next oh hour or however long you spend at breakfast is not only being thoroughly attended to with pristine service, helpful menu guidance, and delicious food but a journey of friendship and adventure. As you sip the perfectly made cappuccino (shoutout to the barista!) delivered with such care and offers of flavours and sweetness and “anything else I can get you?” You are inspired by poetry and art (she’s an artist, too, you know!). As you’re served avocado tartiere with excellent flavour and doesn’t even feel pretentious (I got avocado toast and can still afford my house! Maybe us millennials aren’t ruining the economy after all 😘) you and Theresa share smiles, wit, talk of the down. A few bites and “how is it?” accompanied by an attentive coffee and water refill is the entry to your adventures across the globe, namely Theresa knows your home and has photos to transport you back to your favourite memories of home! Because of course she’s been there. You both take a moment to gasp at mountain views and lakefronts as if you’d gone together, old friends. And finally, as you wrap up a breakfast far surpassing any possible expectation she ends with a bang! A compliment to end all compliments (me?! Nooo! Gosh golly! I’ll be blushin’ the rest of the day)… and a gift to depart as if you’d entered her own home and she’d packed you a care package filled with souvenirs of your visit. You’ll never have another breakfast like it, so savour every smile.
Hope you’re phenomenal Theresa! And Derailed- give that...
Read moreMy wife and I came here prior to our dinner at Tiburon due to a friend's recommendation.
After our first drinks (which were good), we moved to the hotel side of the bar due to a club meeting that we felt we were intruding on. After that, we sat at the bar for literally 30 minutes with zero acknowledgment. No water, no drinks, no, "Sorry we are busy we'll be right with you."
Feeling and being ignored, we asked for the check (which I had to yell out at a bartender since we weren't getting any service) and, after 20 minutes, I had to ask for the check again since it had not been brought. The couple to our left also had to force their credit card to the bartenders since they had also asked for their check more than 20 minutes prior.
We then sat for another 15 minutes with the credit card waiting to be run until, what I think is the manager, walked behind the bar and I asked if we could please have our card run so we could leave.
It had gotten to the point where I was asking my wife at what point to we just put whatever cash we have on us down and walk out. We were essentially begging for Derailed to let us pay for our two drinks from an hour prior.
The manager spoke to the bartender about running our card as we'd been waiting and when she brought it to us she just tossed it on the counter in front of us without a single world. Not a "sorry this took so long", "have a good day" or even a "here's your check".
To the manager's credit, he did give us 2 free appetizer coupons for...
Read moreCame here for dinner with some friends, atmosphere was very nice, not very busy. Hostesses were not very friendly or welcoming, but our server was great, minus a few food and drink mishaps. The manager on duty was NOT kind to his employees and had actually been criticizing one of the employees in front of us. The manager came to our table and asked how our food was, unfortunately he was not personable or friendly at all, didn’t even crack a smile. Had the pork belly tacos and the pork belly was extremely chewy and unpleasant to eat, my bottled beer was pretty great though.. my friend ordered one of their specialty margaritas, it came out as the wrong one and took almost half an hour to get to our table. On top of that, our server had forgotten to ring in several drinks. If this place is looking to be “high end”, they need to hire better management and bartenders, and train and treat their...
