YUMM is one of my favorite places in Florence! The servers are friendly, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is fantastic (and consistent). Any time I get chilly and crave soup, the YUMM Chicken Noodle Bowl is my fix. Even if I miss the lunch hours, they do have the smaller Coconut Thai Soup without the noodles that can delightfully precede my sweet Pork Katsu. During Fall it's the Tonkatsu Ramen for dinner always! When I was a server at the Marriott Shoals, we always had an arsenal of favorite local places to recommend to travellers and YUMM was in my top 3. I enjoy being here enough that I would consider quitting my current serving job (and ditching my work wig) if I could work here with colored hair.
Update I no longer have blue hair so did end up joining the serving team here and I love the food and staff here even more than I previously did. I now have more than 3 favorite dishes here and am always surprised at how phenomenal the specials can be! I've gone from eating here once a week to 4-5 times a week and it never disappoints or gets old. If anything, it just keeps getting better. I love answering questions about our dishes and helping people find new favorites! Though there's nothing on the menu I don't like, my current personal favorites are:
Apps: Firecracker Shrimp Imperial Rolls Fried Green Beans Tuna Tataki
Lunch: Vietnamese Sandwich Yumm Noodle Bowl Thai Beef Salad Thai Curry Noodle
Brunch: Shrimp and Grits Steak and Eggs Spicy Yellowtail Roll
Dinner: Pork Katsu Wasabi Crusted Filet Rama Curry Bangkok Fried Rice
Sushi: New Orleans Roll Spiderman...
Read moreWhile on a 5000 mile road trip, my girlfriend and I stayed in Tuscumbia and ventured into Florence for dinner. With few choices, we decided on Yumm Thai. Being our second day on the road, it would turn out to be a very bad decision. While walking from inside the restaurant to outside seating, my girlfriend tripped on a defective threshold. And she fell hard. In addition to embarrassment, it injured her hand, wrist, foot, knee and hip. The manager who was very nice, assisted us and appeared to be genuinely concerned. She was shaken up, in pain and wanted to leave. But we were hungry and needed food as we did not eat all day. We ordered two dinners, which were average. Here is where I have the problem. From the time we were seated, three more people tripped on the same threshold. The manager knew it was a problem and openly admitted it. Yet he did nothing. He made a business decision to keep the business open and gamble..... at the patrons expense. Despite the manager's genuine concern, his poor decision making and disregard for his customers, warranted immediate termination. To add salt to the wound, he presented us with a bill. He should have ate the bill, offered dessert and thanked God he didn't get two lawsuit happy crazies. For these reason, I rate the experience a 1. Safety before...
Read moreThai. It's hard to screw up. Noodles, sauce and a protein. We live in Lawrenceburg, TN, 45 miles north so when we want Thai food, we typicalky end up here. I say end up, because I hate driving north to Franklin, TN. Although, this last visit convinced me to, head north young man.
Pad Thai is a staple. It should be rich with flavor, not heavy on sweetness, plenty of egg, lots of crushed peanuts, you know, small bites of juicy flavor. The chefs (owner?) refuse to make it juicy no matter how many times we've requested it. I usually have to ask for extra egg. At almost $20 for a plate of noodles, one would think they would accommodate. Just. Add. More. Sauce. Please.
I love Massamon curry. It's ok here. It would be outstanding if added potatoes and more peanuts. I'm always asking for more peanuts.
A few years back, they added french fries and sweet potato fries, both surprisingly good.
This place could be outstanding, instead it's mediocre. This last visit convinced me to make the drive to Koi in Franklin more often. Honestly, I'm bummed as I enjoy a sitting outside with my wife in the warmer months eating their good but over priced...
