So I'm with some family hanging around Old Town for a little bit, browsing shops, listening to some music, and doing some other fun stuff. Then we get hungry and decide to stop in the ol' A&W for some quick food and some old fashioned root beer floats. We get in and take some time to decide what we want. There's a large menu variety from burgers to corn dogs to chicken wings to pork tenderloin?
We decide what we want and order at the counter. The majority of the employees we talked to don't speak very good English, which is fine. Just make sure you put things in really concise terms. We ended up ordering food for six people with only one mistake on our tray at the end. I consider that lucky.
So I ordered a barbecue burger with crispy onions on it, fries, and a root beer. My burger was very ok. It had more heft to it than a McDonald's double cheeseburger, but less heft than a Whopper. The toppings were all acceptable and the cheese actually stood out pretty well and had a good flavor. Mild cheddar. The fries were ok. Seasoned slightly but a little cold.
My girlfriend ordered the 10-piece corndog nuggets meal with a root beer float. The corn dog nuggets were pretty good. The star of the show was the float, though. The vanilla ice cream was great, and the root beer is excellent, classic A&W.
Overall, it was a decent meal. The pricing isn't too terrible. The inside decor of the place is old school Americana with a nice little bell you can ring on the way out if you thought service was good. I'd come back here if I was in Old Town again and hungry, but only after I had already tried all the other restaurants on the...
Read moreI don't know what happened to A&W or when it happened but I used to go there because you could get a hamburger, fries and a drink for a reasonable price. Seems nowadays in both Canada and the US someone decided to get greedy. Over $15 bucks USD for a tiny box of cheese curd bits and little bag of onion rings from their "sides" menu no less. No.. that's it for me, I'm done with A&W. This location was especially loud and obnoxious I should add. What ever happened to the 2 for 1 burger deals? A&W just leaves a bad taste in my mouth - you can get three times as much garbage food at Rotten Ronnie's for that price. I've always preferred A&W over the other fast food chains but now it's just a rip-off. The other day I took the family to KFC and fed 5 of us for $47 bucks and everyone had a meal not these piddly little side dish grab bags. A family of 5 at A&W will run you about 70 to 80 bucks - even more north of the border! I wouldn't mind so much if it was actually healthy food but let's face it, it's deep fried garbage fast food. Done and done. Bye A&W! Never again - You've lost a...
Read moreThis might sound odd but it was my first time ever trying A&W (other than some of their sodas of course). It was good—the dining room was clean and the staff were very nice. A little pricey, but that's probably to be expected in touristville.
I was bummed that they're not actually affiliated, seemingly, with A&W corporate? Or ? I couldn't use the app / the app didn't recognize this location.
I did not try a rootbeer float, but I might go back soon to do just that.
I tried the corn dog nuggets which were great - I'd be hard to ruin those, no? I got the 5-piece but they gave me 7—score!
And the chili cheese fries, which were okay. Fries themselves: great and crispy. Cheese , nice. Chili, okay. Very tangy. I'd get them again with just cheese, I think.
The fountain A&W rootbeer was very tasty.
The restroom was, honestly pretty nasty. I think a customer had just trashed it though, to be fair. Very old building, but that mainly showed in the restroom.
Booths in the dining room are very comfy. I think...
