Went to this place last night. Visitor here in Fort Walton. So far have enjoyed every place we've gone to. With much excitement took my children here to enjoy their movie for the night. Sent my 3 children to the register which was closet to us and they sent my children to the other end register so I get up and go by them. We ordered milk shakes, then my oldest daughter decided on a milk shake. I got back in line and patiently waited till it was my turn. When I get up there and tell Erica, who was still the cashier, that I needed another milk shake. She tells me, from now on when you want a milkshake you have to go to the other registers. I told her my children were sent to her register by the other ladies. She repeats herself saying, they should not have done that and when you want more milkshakes you are to go there. Then she says, because I have all this and puts out her hand to the bar which may have had 6 people. I told her she would not have to concern herself with me wanting anymore milkshakes because I'd never order again. Now 4 milkshakes is right around $44. And she feels she has the right to be rude by acting like she's all that and too good to wait on someone. As I sat and drank my very liquidy and small lumpy milkshake, I watched Erica go to the back of the bar speaking to about 3 customers, which is about how many people were left at the bar. In other words, she was NOT busy. Later going up there to speak to someone, whom I assumed might be manager because she was the only one in street clothes, to get this person's name and another young lady's name that worked there. This lady asked why so I told her it would be in the reviews. Normally when you go to a place of business they send you a request to fill out a review. Never got that, so I pulled it up myself. Erica, the sarcastic cashier, as I sat there watching, went up to the person I got the names from, asking what I said, then starting giving her side of her story while eyeing me and laughing about it. My purpose of this review is to say I would recommend Erica get a demotion while Kayla, the other lady I spoke of, gets A promotion. I had called her over and she came without hesitation. I wanted to recommend they sell popcorn and she agreed and said she'd mention it to management. They should also sell cheese nachos. I do understand with this unemployment Biden is handing out, it's hard to get workers, but it shouldn't be hard to switch people, as one needs to be demoted and one needs to be promoted. And the last thing I want to state is when an employee shows their unprofessional self as Erica did, you can almost bet it's not the only time. This is the only time I did not enjoy since...
Read moreThis place operates like a fancy over priced fast food joint that offers alcohol with live music and a nice view if you can grab a seat that has a view of the gulf. The food was good, but I'm not sure if we'll be back when comparing the price/experience with other nearby options. There was live music when we went. However, people were more into the music played over the speakers in between sets than the live performers. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant seemed cool when we first walked in. We sat at a table right next to a large opening so we could enjoy the breeze and view of the gulf. It's kid friendly. There's a couple of games to play. Customer service could have been a little better. We walked in and no one greeted us. There was no signage saying to seat yourself or wait to be seated. No hostess stand. I was close to just walking out and going to one of the other places nearby. We had to track down an employee who said we could just sit anywhere. Then, we had to figure out on our own that you have to go up to the bar area to place your order instead of a waiter/waitress coming over to the table. There's menus at the table to look over before making your way up to place an order. The lady that took our order was nice. You make your drinks on your own. The seating/order process is basically like a fast food experience. Also, one thing that baffled me was that the drink for an adult was a couple of bucks more expensive than a kid's drink, but the cup was the exact same size. They're literally trying to charge a couple of bucks more for the exact same cups! Thankfully, the lady taking our order just gave us all of the cups for the price on the kids menu. The cups and plates are paper. The silverware is plastic. For the prices they charge I'd expect a little more than what we experienced. They also forgot to bring out one of our meals. After waiting several minutes we had to track down an employee to get that taken care of. We paid just a few bucks short of a hundred dollars to eat here for our family and our kids split meals. In comparison, right next door at The Crab Trap we paid about $20 less, received an actual sit down restaurant experience, the service was great, the food was great, the atmosphere was great, and the menu selection/variety was better. I can more easily justify the price for that experience. I can't justify the price at Al's for the overall experience we received to...
Read moreUpdate: I stopped into Al's tonight for a beverage and as expected the service was spectacular. The drink was made to perfection and everyone was polite and friendly. One happy customer here. Jessica you ROCK! I just hope my shout out counts and you get the bonus they give employees for doing good. I'd hate to think it didn't count bc I used to work there. Because you did an amazing job. Great bartender. You go to Als make sure Jessica takes care of you.
It should be noted first that I am a former employee of Al's and to be clear I hold no ill will. The restaurant is less than half a mile from my residence and I still associate with some of my former coworkers.
Tonight I went to Als to get a drink, the bartender greeted, we chatted, and gave each other the basic "How you been". I order my drink, bourbon and gingerbeer. He asked which bourbon and I responde telling him well is fine. At this point everything is normal. He makes the drink and I get into a conversation about with another former coworker about a recent car accident and issues with my ins company. We finish our convo and I turn to my drink. I take a sip and taste nothing. I'm certain there is the standard 1.25 ounce of liquor in the drink. They require they're less experienced bartenders to use a jigger. The issue was that standard 1.25 ounce pour was placed into a 16 oz glass with an entire can of ginger beer poured on top. A single mix drink should be placed in a smaller cup. Something the restaurants manager, a fellow bourbon drinker, would agree. I place my drink to the side to signal an issue, so when he finished with his customers we could chat. A female who I did not recognize tells him she doesn't think I liked my drink. His response is "I don't care, he's just a disgruntled employee". I was not as disgruntled employee, I was a dissatisfied customer. Instead of speaking with me, he tells his fellow coworker you cash him out and he's not "dealing" with me. I did nothing wrong, it is NOT my fault the drink was made incorrectly, I was not rude. However I was treated completely rudely and unfairly. If I decide to make another stop at Als for a late night cocktail after work i hope I'm treated with the respect any customer should rightfully be treated with regardless of employment with...
