3/19/19 at around 2pm we passed this Irish pub gem when we were aboard on the Old Town Trolley ( me & my mom ). Having spent an abundant time in Ireland, it sparked my craving for an Irish Coffee so we got off and walked back to Ann O' Malleys after reading admirable google reviews. As soon as we walked in we went to the bar right infront of bartender and took a seat. The employee would not acknowledge or make eye contact with us to even let us know she had observed our presence. Personally I have worked for years in hospitality industry during school & can correlate it can become very overwhelming at times. We gave it about 10 minutes for any kind of greeting while we watched her be disrespectful to patrons just walking in. Yelling there's no room inside ( when there clearly was) and watched patrons walk in and out with her obnoxious behavior. She took orders of people who came in after us...while we still waited at the bar for her ----we had enough and left. What a rude awakening!! Maybe it was that we were the only minorities in the pub or that we were tourist. For whatever reason this visit was extremely uncomfortable & we were bewildered in how this Irish pub had so many good reviews. There are plenty of coffee areas around , please DO NOT visit this establishment if your looking for an authentic and professional service. St. Augustine coffee shop is right behind them with friendly smiles and delicious Irish coffee!!
Hopefully her employee will learn skills to deal in busy situations with proper demeanor in the future. Still appalled to see how she spoke to some patrons!
Tip to management: have more workers than her so she's not shouting/complaining to the Pub patrons that she's cooking and doing all the work herself so expect a 40 minute wait in a tasteless way. Maybe provide her with help because Clearly she was unable to do it herself and could care less if people...
Read moreThis place is a locals bar in St Augustine. I actually came for the open mic but decided I didnt really want to play after hanging out there for a bit. Thenplace jas a rustic old school vibe to it.The bartender wasnt personable at all really except to the people he knew it took him about 5 mins to get me a drink on a monday night with about 6 people in the bar he never even greeted me.
Fair enough he was the only on working and was steady doing jobs around the bar to keep up but still it wasnt that busy seemed like a nice guy though as he knew all the locals. Or maybe he was having an off day.
They had a full menu available but everything i saw was prepared in the microwave... like everything.... everything he made was cooked in the microwave. But he was pumping out orders. The attendees for open mic began rolling in and so did the start time as 8pm came and went and it never actually started in combination with my beer glass being empty and the bartender never looking my way or even bothering to ask if i would like another one so i left..
There is an extra star in this reveiw for the beautiful singer/songwriter who came in with an interesting looking guitar who seemed to steal everyones attention. I would have liked to hear her play and maybe even buy...
Read moreToday we had a long lazy day at the beach. The weather has been spotty so we grabbed our sunny day while it lasted. Knowing we had 7:30 tickets for the Ripley's Ghost Train we headed into town at the last minute for a bite. We were hoping for a pub with fish and chips but when we sat down at Anne O'Malley's we realized it was sandwiches and beer. Oh well. We are suckers for any place playing Celtic music as we are a family descended from strong Anglo stock and love anything Celtic!
The service was casual - so don't be in a hurry. I ordered a corned beef reuben with homemade thousand island dressing. My hubby got the turkey club and my son ordered a pastrami on white. They were all great and quite filling.
While we ate, the pub filled up with locals as it was Thursday's trivia night. We knew they were locals - young and old - by how they greeted one another. The pub is perfectly located at almost across from the Fort so we were able to quickly walk down the street to Ripleys. We could have easily strolled the Old City from there as well.
Hoping to come back to St. A's next year we will come in on a Thursday night when we...
