Day 2 of my trip to Florida to attend infocomm. Dinner time had come again and not wanting to engage in the hotel fare, I ventured out in search of my next meal.
Once again, this was in the Vineland Outlet Mall in Orlando and walking distance from my hotel. I left the hotel at 630 pm. I looked to my right with the mall to my left, dark sky, rumblings of thunder. So I checked the hourly forecast and saw that rain was expected but not for another hour to hour and a half which gave me courage to journey on.
I skipped out on a steak and seafood dinner with one of our partners after having attended it for years. As a result, I think I just wanted steak this evening but I didn't want the carbs. I typically find it hard to eat out twice in the same day when on travel because food portions tend to be on the larger side and I had a loaded baked potato for lunch. Those can be very dense and can sit with you for a while.
I chose this restaurant because it seemed the healthiest of the other options in the food court. This being a mall food court, you should expect a food court environment which would explain my rating for atmosphere. Many of the other restaurant options in the court did not provide a carbless experience and I've always loved me a good Taco bowl. This is essentially a build your own bowl type offering where you also have the option to have it on top of rice or as a wrap. The options for protein grilled chicken, steak, or carne asada pork. As I had chosen the salad bowl, the base salad was romaine and you then pick all the various elements you want in your bowl. I chose corn, grilled onions, tomato salsa, guacamole which costs extra, and of course the steak. A notable thing to point out here was that the steak and the other meats are out in warming bins and they scoop your portion into your bowl. The individual who was putting my bowl together appeared to be the only worker there behind the counter. There wasn't much steak left in the bin so he asked me if it was okay if you went back to get fresh steak to which I had no issue with since I wasn't in a crunch for time. He then proceeded to go back and cook a new batch of steak and bought it out to show me that it was medium rare, which is exactly how I like it. I also had their hot sauce on the side and declined additional sauces that they had which appeared to be more on the creamier side, just to avoid the calories. All in all it came out to about $22.
I took it back to the hotel which was about a 15-minute walk, and I can tell you, it was good. All the ingredients seemed relatively fresh and the hot sauce had a little bit of kick in it. As a fire eater, I appreciated the heat which was just enough for me to notice I was there, but nowhere near spicy enough to qualify on the heat. Register for fire eaters. The steak was tender and flavorful. And the portion of steak relative to the size of the bowl was satisfactory. Just to know here that extra protein was about a little over $4 if you chose to do that, which is around the same price as it would have been to get guacamole.
This place is good. I was satisfied. I think you will be too if you decide to go here. Based on this single experience, I would...
Read moreThe staffed laughed when i decided to have tofu in my quesadilla instead of real meat, they looked at me like if i was crazy one lady said “tofu really?” And i said “yes” and she laughed. Not only that the tortilla is huge you can add so many things in it but they ill only add 2 things in the quesadilla, are you kidding me! In chipotle you can add so many things and still get a well done quesadilla but here they cant add more than 2 things. She only added the tofu and cheese that is it i asked “can you add lettuce, tomatoe and cream cheese” and they said no. The meal cost $8 are you for real? It should be lower than that the quesadilla bearly has anything inside! Other restaurants will add amounts of food inside of the quesadilla! I told them i want my money back and they started speaking spanish which I understand, they were saying what happend why she doesnt want the food and i said because its a joke! You cant even add more to it the tortilla is huge! You can add so many things!. I got my money back and walked away. Some of my friends agree with me and have had similar experiences there as well so im not...
Read moreI actually liked this food. It reminds me of Indian and American/Mexican flavors. Tender steak, flavorful chicken, lots of sauces to enhance the meal. Nice size bowls and quantity. Portions and prices are similar to Chipotle. I did notice the grilled onions were not fresh and had strings coming off when scooped. The guac did need some salt and cilantro. The in house salsa was not made fresh daily as the tomatoes looked old and mushy. I could tell no one was asking for the dry 🍅 salsa because there was a lot and was about to overflow from the steal container. The chips we're warm and freshly salted. The salsa that comes with the chips appeared to be pureed and from a different batch than what is displayed on the cool table. The salt of the chips gave flavor only to the chip and made the salsa taste bland. This food is a healthier option while in a food court, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit the outlet mall just for the food. Not to mention the AC was off in the near empty...
