Edit: This experience was 2 years ago. I see recent positive reviews and can't speak for their food now (you wouldn't catch me dead back at this place), but perhaps they're under new management or I got really unlucky when I went. Just take my review with a grain of salt (something our dishes didn't have....), I didn't know editing it would change the date, but I'm leaving it here simply because it's completely truthful to my experience.
UNBELIEVABLY BAD...never been more disappointed anywhere, EVER!! Don't waste your money here, it's like bad cafeteria food AT BEST! Zero salt, zero spice, almost NO flavor....an absolute embarassment to Indian food!
My friend is in town and we chose a few restaurants to have what few meals we get to share together while they are here, and we chose Dinner India over Taste of India downtown, for some GOD FORSAKEN reason, I'm not really sure what swayed us this way, but boy do we regret it. Go ANYWHERE but here...it CAN'T be worse. My Chicken Chettinald looks (and almost tastes) like lumpy vomit, or some kind of canned chicken soup at best. My friend's Tikka Masala? It's literally like someone mixed tomato paste with water, dumped it on chicken, and called it Indian cuisine. (I'm not exaggerating, this isn't just me raging....that's ACTUALLY what it tasted like)
Both dishes taste like they have NO SALT, OR ANY FLAVOR OF SPICE OR SEASONING WHATSOEVER. Indian food is supposed to EXPLODE in your face with flavor and put American food to shame.....BUT THIS IS LITERALLY JUST FREAKING TOMATO PASTE. YOU JUST CHARGED ME $50 FOR SOME CARDBOARD CHICKEN WITH TOMATO PASTE AND CREAM OF CHICKEN SOUP ON IT. IF I WANTED THAT I WOULD HAVE JUST GONE TO WALMART....GIVE ME A BREAK.
Seriously, look at my photos. Tell me that doesn't look like a cheap plate of spaghetti that you might give to a child. That is the TIKKA MASALA RIGHT OFF THIS RESTAURANT'S MENU. This shouldn't even be sold at a restaurant as food. I've had less bland food at McDonald's! Even the Mint Chutney tastes like someone just soaked grass in nasty tap water, and it is SWIMMING in it.
NOT EVEN JOKING - both of us decided to eat some FROZEN MICROWAVE MEALS we bought at the store earlier because WE KNEW WE WOULD ENJOY THEM MORE. My $4 Butter Chicken by Bombay has 10x more flavor and spice than everything we ordered combined. How pathetic is that? Save yourself money everyone and just buy some frozen curry at the store, it'll be way better...
Read moreVery disappointing! Wish Google allowed a zero star rating. We were super hungry and came to this place for dinner. Ordered an appetizer platter, Paneer bhurji, naan and mango lassi. The appetizer came with an undercooked samosa with raw dough inside, 4 pakodas with hardly any salt in the batter, and 2 aalu tikkis which were ok. The Paneer bhurji had ZERO salt, and lacked any flavor other than just the heat from the chilli powder. The server brought just the curry and rice even though we had ordered naan as well. By the time the naan arrived at the table 10 min later, the curry wasn't hot anymore. Basic courtesy at any restaurant is to bring food that goes with one another out together. Then, the samosa skin had raw dough inside, it was so thick that it hadn't even cooked through. We told them the samosa was raw. Instead of setting it right, the lady just said "Sorry about that, I'll tell the kitchen". Another basic courtesy of any restaurant is to set the order right and replace any undercooked food!! She replaced it only after we asked her to. The last straw was when we told her there was absolutely no salt in the curry. I got the most ridiculous response- "It is gravy based, and we don't put salt in any gravy. We add salt only if the customer asks us to"!!!!!!!! Anybody who cooks the most basic food knows that salt is necessary for any savory food, irrespective of the cuisine!!! Who would imagine that they would have to ASK the kitchen to add salt of all things in their food?! Ridiculous! I don't know how they are running a restaurant. Finally, they have a $10 off $45 coupon on their own website. When I asked them if they can apply, they said they can only if we provided them a paper copy! It is on THEIR WEBSITE!! What a ridiculous place! On top of this, the service was so slow, nobody checked on how the food was, water wasn't refilled... Strongly advise anyone against visiting this place if you are looking for food with salt, let alone flavor!! And, they themselves weren't strictly adhering to wearing a face mask... What an...
Read moreThis place is depressing. Its really dark inside, probably to hide the dilapidated condition of the building. It's a large space that felt like an abandoned mexican restaurant with maybe 3 of the 30 or so tables occupied. I'd assume only tourists or people that REALLY like Indian food would go here because any local who's visited would know better than to go back. It was ten minutes before anyone came to take drink orders, and no mention of an actual menu. I was hoping to order an entree, but i was directed to the sorriest excuse for a buffet I've ever seen. Maybe a dozen options on the small dimly lit buffet in the corner, none of which looks like it hasn't been sitting out since the night before. If you can get past the disgusting look of the limited selection you then have to deal with the slimy texture of just about everything but the rice and bread. I really hate to give such a bad review, but I honestly felt bad for the owners - not that they're not trying, but that this sad place is all they have to show for their efforts, its such a big place that just feels empty and sad with so few customers . I think the location is a huge factor in this review, if the overall vibe of the space was better I'd probably have less complaints. This business would be better suited to one of those small strip malls that usually contain the kind of small Asian restaurant with pictures of all their entees on the wall. The best creative criticism I can give to the owners is to relocate to a smaller, properly...
