I had been wanting to try Ruby Gin for some time as I've always wanted to try pancit. I was very excited to be there as I'm never on this side of town but was in the area for work. I started off with an order of the lumpia. I got 12 in the appetizer with thai chili sauce to dip it in. It was crispy tasty and I was off to an awesome start. My server Adrian was very nice and I had a lot of questions since I am not familiar with the food. He explain the differences between the 2 pancits...stated that 1 of them was a thin noodle with just vegetables and the other was a thicker noodle with more sauce but not like spaghetti... kind of like a chicken broth and had meat...recommended the chicken as more complimentary. I took his advice. Unfortunately, when I got the pancit... The noodles were exactly like spaghetti And it tasted a lot like chicken noodle soup, it had some cabbage, cut up green beans, scallions, and very very small (like penny sized) cubes of chicken throughout. Being that it was a 90゚ day, I started sweating because it just wasn't conducive to eat that. There is no spice level and very little taste. There's no salt or pepper on the table although I didn't really ask for any because after tasting some, I just wanted to box it up for someone who maybe would like it or thought maybe I could add some ingredients at home that would give it more flavor. I was still hungry and asked if there were any kabobs or any type of a la carte offerings that I could order...there wasn't. Disappointed with the pancit, I went ahead and ordered the daily special. The daily special comes with white rice, 3 lumpias with thai chili sauce and your choice of pork kabob/chicken adobo/pork Adobe. You can substitute the white rice with garlic rice which is fried but not for the fried rice; I oped to substitute for veggie pancit so I could taste the style of noodle I had never had and originally wanted.. I chose the pork kabob which Adrian described as a type of bbq sauce- & when I asked if it tasted like soy....he said no, not soy. I tried it and it was good but honestly tasted like soy also. The thin traditional pancit noodles were exactly what I was looking to get to begin and this time without the wet chicken broth. To my surprise it had pork cubes but it also could've used some spice to it. But definitely better. I ended up spending more than I should have...$41 but atleast now I've tried traditional Filipino food. I'll be completely honest and say I'd only stop by for lumpia to go...the restaurant has a cafeteria style ambiance (as pictured). I took pictures of all the dishes and restaurant so you're able to get a...
Read moreMy apologies in advance if this review is a bit too long as I want to keep this honest and accurate as possible.
I'll start off with the food: I have had everything in their breakfast menu and truly, it reminds me of home. Simple, delicious, and filling. I recommend the bangsilog (fried milkfish, rice, and eggs). I know it may be weird for some to eat fish for breakfast. If so, the longsilog is my second recommendation (chorizo-like sausage, rice and eggs).
For lunch, let me start by saying their portions are good for two (unless you're really hungry). I've had almost everything on the menu and nothing so far has been disappointing. Everything tastes amazing! My recommendation to those new to Filipino food - sisig. It is sizzling chopped pork with onions, citrus calamansi or lime, chili peppers etc. Otherwise, everything else in their menu has been awesome and more than worth a shot.
Next I want to talk about the location itself. Looks can be deceiving. Initially it looks like an abandoned pizza hut but the inside is where the life is. It isn't anything fancy or expensive looking. It simply is a good restaurant. Dining area and bathroom are clean, plenty of seats.
Lastly, I want to mention the staff. They are nothing short of hospitable. They are bright and authentic. They cool peeps!
Overall, this place is simply amazing. My wife and I make the 40 minute drive once or twice a month just to eat there and it's always...
Read moreBy far, my worst Filipino food experience ever. I went on Monday, 3 Dec 2018, in the evening, around 7:30pm.
I was psyched when searching for food near me and saw a fairly high rated Filipino food restaurant. However, my experience was quite horrible.
I ordered the Pancit, lumpia, chicken adobo special. Your basic Filipino staples for Americans and, it was quite awful. First, let me say that the Pancit was great, however, the lumpia was limp and overcooked with old grease! You could tell, if cooked right, it had the potential to be great, but this night, it was bad. And, even worse than the lumpia was the chicken adobo. It was so bad, it wasn't eatable, probably not even edible...I threw it out after trying several bites from different pieces.
I love Filipino food, however, this was by far my worse experience ever!!!
Maybe, it was a one night thing, but I doubt it...just all around bad. Even though I loved the pancit, I will never go to that restaurant again.
My apologies to Ruby-Gin for the negative review, but it was honestly just that horrible.
Other than the pancit, I will say that the lady who took my order, she was very hospitable, just a sweetheart, but she isn't the one who prepared my food.
So, thank you for the hospitality and Pancit, but again, that isn't enough for me to ever come back, yep, that...
