The very best fried Calamari in South Florida. Chicken Francese is on point and the pies are decent. The wait staff seems to try hard but they are held back by the morbidly obese simpleton that manages the place. If you have an issue, and the server seems hesitant to get him involved, DO NOT INSIST. Let them just give you a glass of wine or espresso on the house. If you do wish to see the manager he probably won't even come talk to you. Again, your server is telling you the truth when she says that he won't come to your table. Insisting will probably just get them in trouble and if he does finally show his face prepare to lose your appetite. He is rude, surly, flippant, and severely apathetic when it comes to guests of the restaurant. Meeting him will turn you off to the place forever, awesome calamari or not. He honestly does nothing but count the money each night and yell at his staff all day. Most of the long time employees have that thousand yard stare of an abuse survivor and anyone with a drop of self esteem quits within the first month. Dominic must somehow be indebted to this Vito character for something or another because there is no other logical reason to keep him around the place. Another downside to the place is the noise. It is lively and busy so noise is to be expected, but on busy nights you here a very loud banging noise come from the back. I asked my server what it was and she said that the chef bangs on a steel table with the back of a clever to let the staff know when the food is ready. I guess they have never heard of a bell. So to sum up, if you don't mind really loud noises, and make sure to avoid the ridiculously rude manager who acts like he is doing you a favor by letting you eat there, Dominic's II is a good place to go for hefty portions of above average Italian food and a nice glass of Valpolicella or Chianti. Make sure to get the calamari as...
Read moreUsually I enjoy this place however, this weekend being a holiday it was very busy. We were a party of nine including two two year olds. We were told the wait would be about 25 to 30 minutes and after 45 minutes we were the only ones waiting. Then an 8 party came in and they said they would seat them as the table would be too small for us. We insisted on the table and with two height chairs and 7 adults it was perfect. No squeezing in at all. I am accustomed to the small piece of what I will call bread served right away so we could give the children something to eat after the long wait. The response was they are too busy tonight to do that. We ordered drinks and requested garlic and none garlic rolls for table. After a longer than usual wait we received a basket of garlic rolls and plain Italian bread. They told us they were making the plain rolls and this is all they had for now. The garlic rolls ran out and when we ordered more we were told no more rolls tonight. Finally the salads arrived and it was another disappointment. The dinner salads had lettuce, one very small tomato, peppercini, and two of the three had one slice of cucumber. When we pointed this out they can back with chopped onions, cabbage, olives and banana peppers.
We were told the calzone would take longer to make and therefore not come with the meals. It did arrive with the other dinners but was not fully cooked. The sauce on every dish was very watery and lacked flavor..
I have eaten here several times including New Year's Eve and the food and service was so much better. I was embarrassed I recommended it.
This was far from their best effort. I know I won't be returning for a very long time if ever as there are many other fine Italian...
Read moreWe have been patronizing Dominic II for many years. For many of those years, Rosa has been our server. We have connected with her and chose to dine out on the evenings that she is there. Tonight was a very different experience for us and hopefully, we will not have to repeat this experience. When we walked in, as always, we asked to be seated with Rosa. We were told that the people before us asked for her as well and they decided we should sit on the opposite side of the restaurant. The server came over with the menu and at that time, I asked if Rosa was going to serve us on this side. He said no. I insisted on her serving us. The server sent Matthew the manager over to speak with us. We again explained we were there that evening to be served by Rosa. He began telling us that there were other servers there. I think he got the message when he saw that we were ready to leave. He managed to sit us in Rosa's section. If we were going to get our hair or nails done. I would expect to have the person I request and not someone else. Matthew needs to understand that when a client requests someone, that is who they want and not someone else. He should be grateful that so many people are returning to his restaurant because of Rosa. She is outstanding in everything she does. Hopefully she is continuously recognized for what she does for...
