First off…… we have been here many times in the past. Before my dad passed away he used to love to come here when he came to town. My boyfriend loves seafood and he has always liked this place when he comes to town to see us. After tonight though we will probably never be back and I never thought I would say that. So first off, there were 5 of us and the others went to park while I went inside to get a table. They weren’t crazy busy. The lady asked if my whole party was here (looking straight at me and no one else standing there as I asked for a table for 5). When I said they will be right in, they are parking the car. She said well you’ll have to wait until the rest of your party is inside before I can seat you. Meanwhile another couple comes in and my family was walking in right behind them. But she seats them and we wait until she gets back to be seated bc “my family wasn’t INSIDE the building yet”. So we get seated and then just sit there and wait. No one comes to our table. My boyfriend even had time to walk back out to the car to get his glasses and come back and sit down before anyone ever comes to take our drink order. SO….. why wait to seat someone who’s family is on their way in if we sit there that long before anyone ever even comes to greet us or get our drink order. Our drinks come out and 2 people in our party ordered sweet tea and they had to send it back and get something else bc the tea was not sweet and tasted old. When our food comes out I’m missing my hush puppies, everyone that had corn….. the corn was cold and dried out. Looked like it had been sitting there all day. The mahi was dried out, my blackened shrimp was chewy. My boyfriend ordered the same as me but fried. His “fresh gulf shrimp” didn’t even have tails (so obviously not fresh shrimp). His fried mahi he said tastes like something he can get at Captain D’s. He said whatever they use to batter it is awful. The tarter sauce and cocktail sauce came out in some kind of prepackaged fast food looking container. My daughter and her friend asked if they can get the fettuccine with chicken instead of shrimp. It ended up being the EXACT same price as the shrimp fettuccine Alfredo and most places chicken Alfredo isn’t as expensive as shrimp. But ok, no big deal just surprised me. I had to go find my waitress to let her know I was missing my hush puppies and she was in the back of the room talking to 2 or 3 other wait staff. There of course is a 3.5% fee for using your debit card and there’s another $3.00 SEA fee to “keep the boardwalk clean”. Our bill was over $176 for food that was fast food quality. We paid well over $200 with tip for a meal that wasn’t worth it at all. We took the rest in a to go box to take home for my chickens. If we are paying that kind of money for poor quality, awful tasting food then I guess my chickens will eat good lol. Then as I’m walking back to my table at the end of dinner a girl was cleaning windows and she was so busy talking to another employee that when she sprayed the cleaner on the window she also sprayed it in my eyes bc she had her head turned talking when she sprayed it. When I get back to the table my family tells me that the people at the table beside us was VERY upset with their food also. They were saying it’s the worst seafood they have ever had. What’s sad is no one there really seemed too concerned that people were complaining. All in all……. What USED to be one of our favorite places to go when we had to be in Destin for something has now become a place we have ALL said we will NEVER return. After reading other reviews tonight, experiencing what we experienced and seeing how upset the people were beside us…… I really hope the owners and management see this and make some MAJOR changes or this place will not make it...

My wife and I visited recently with another couple, and from start to finish it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in the area.
We kicked things off with the gator bites appetizer, which set the tone right away — crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with flavor. For our entrées, my wife went with a classic shrimp platter that came out piled high and cooked to perfection. I ordered the 10oz sirloin steak with potatoes, and I’ve got to say it was one of the best steaks I’ve had locally — perfectly cooked, juicy, and well-seasoned. Our friends ordered an oyster platter and another sirloin, and everyone at the table agreed: not a single complaint. The portions were generous, everything came out hot, and the flavors were spot on. Between the four of us, we spent just under $100, which felt like a great value considering the quality and portion sizes.
The service was flawless. Our server was friendly, professional, and attentive without hovering. Drinks were refilled promptly, food came out quickly despite how busy it was, and we never once felt rushed. It’s clear that the staff here takes pride in making sure their guests are taken care of.
What really makes Floyd’s stand out, though, is the atmosphere. The restaurant has covered outdoor seating overlooking the emerald-green waters of the Gulf, and there’s truly nothing like enjoying a meal with that view. Add in the live music on stage and the relaxed dim lighting, and it creates an unforgettable setting. The vibe was equal parts fun and laid-back — perfect for couples, families, or a group of friends looking to soak up the best of Okaloosa Island.
Between the atmosphere, the service, and the food (which we all agreed is some of the best on the island), Floyd’s Shrimp House absolutely delivered. We left full, happy, and already talking about coming back.
Highly recommend this spot to locals and visitors alike. If you’re in Fort Walton Beach or nearby Destin, make Floyd’s Shrimp House a must-stop on your list. We’ll definitely be back!

Read moreWe decided to try Floyd's for the very first time. The hostess was quite nice and we got seated at a tiny 2 person table upstairs/outside - however, as it was with direct view at the beach, we didn't mind it so much. What I did mind was that the table had two spots of bird poop - completely dried and hard so I wonder how much they actually clean the tables after service. We saw the waiter of the other tables rush by and we're already discussing moving on to another restaurant as our waiter finally appeared after nearly 10 minutes. She was at least quite nice and we decided to stay. The alligator bites were nice although some of them were quite small and very chewy. I ordered the shrimp boat - the shrimps were quite pleasant, however, the veggies (Brokkoli and some squash) was quite undercooked and unseasoned and the rice was bland and not very pleasant. At least I could enjoy my shrimps. My boyfriend unfortunately ordered the pork chops and extra bacon wrapped shrimps - the shrimp were the best about his meal - the pork was overcooked and lacked seasoning, especially salt, the potato side was dark brown - nearly black - drizzled with sour cream, hiding rather burnt cheese and potatoes underneath. I've eaten worse at restaurants before though not for this price tag and the only highlight for me were the shrimps. To not ruin an otherwise fine day, we ate what we could and definitely won't come back - not even for the coconut shrimp or bacon wrapped shrimp... The shrimps and view are not worth it for me as there are plenty of other restaurants to...
