EDITED 1 year later: after having visited most coffee shops in Sarasota by now, I’ve come to the personal conclusion that Palma makes the best damn cup of coffee in town. I believe that to make coffee this good- the owners have to be coffee snobs or purists to some degree, so I’ll take the largest size that they offer and enjoy every last drop because from the roast, to the perfect extraction and the homemade vanilla syrup, I’m sold. I’m not a coffee snob, but I’m glad that the owners are because I get to benefit with some of the tastiest coffee I’ve ever had- hands down. The staff is always welcoming and friendly and the owners are solid folks. I highly recommend Palma!
ORIGINAL: We just moved to FL this week and wanted to find a nearby coffee shop that can become our new place. This place is only 5 min from our house and was recommended to us. The shop is designed spectacularly, something that we find often gets overlooked in Sarasota. The coffee was delicious (we’re coming from Portland, OR, iykyk) with a perfect menu selection to choose from but not overwhelmingly so which I really appreciate. A few pointers, when establishing a new place- each customer should be greeted warmly, it’s your foundation of clients that you’re building. We didn’t feel too welcomed, but it could’ve been an off day/time so we’ll leave it human error as it seems others had the opposite experience. Unfortunately for us, the largest a hot coffee comes in is a 10 oz, which may be our biggest reason for not coming back because as delicious as it was, my husband likes to have a bigger cup to sip on throughout his workday mornings, having that option would be great. Otherwise, definitely worth checking out! They also had a great selection of records up for purchase at a reasonable price. Definitely rooting for this place because you can taste the quality and the passion...
Read moreProbably the best specialty coffee roaster in Sarasota. Their Colombia gesha selection was great and I bought the X4 for a friend who absolutely loves the wine notes. My first visit I was excited they had geshas for their pour over selections and Amanda was incredibly kind to explain the differences between what they offered - I ended up with the yellow gesha first, which was very floral and tea-like on the finish, but had the peachiness and typical stonefruit notes. My next couple visits I had the X4, and Manuel was so kind to recommend using a Sibarist filter the next time I came in to try the difference in cup clarity. I also had a wonderful conversation about coffee fermentation and processing, getting recommended a podcast on the subject, and they are so obviously transparent about their sourcing and coffee.
Their vinyl selection was cute and their music is comfy. The ceramic mugs my pour-overs came in looked handmade and each came with little information cards about the coffee in general. Their specialty coffee selection is a bit small and Manuel mentioned they had a Myanmar coffee, which I was disappointed I didn't get to see before I left. Most definitely...
Read moreI don’t know where to start. A life saver, Palma Coffee is a life saver. It’s probably and very likely the BEST coffee shop in the area. Yes there are other coffee shops/Café’s but none check all the boxes. First Manuel and Amanda have to be 2 of the kindest, sweetest people I know, I mean c’mon Amanda’s Abuela works at the shop a couple days a week and her mom was there to help out during an event they had recently. AND yes you know all 3 are related. Anyone who says, “eh coffee is coffee” has no coffee soul but Manuel and Amanda are the Otis and Aretha of coffee. From stuff they get, to stuff they roast, to all of the coffee they serve no way you get a bad cup. Everything is made with pride, and they know their stuff. These are 2 people who are ALL IN when it comes to coffee. Yes there are others in Sarasota who do good coffee but no one else has the balance that is...
