Read moreSo one restaurant that doesn't get much burn in here is Panevino. Little classy italian joint across from Mercato. Of course the strip mall vibes may fool a few, but this place could be situated anywhere and still pump out great food. Yes the owners have quirky methods such as no splitting checks, no sharing plates etc etc...but growing up in northern NJ, i guess I'm used to it. Anyways, the place is tight. It was jam packed. Servers attentive. We ordered a bottle of vino, and scanned the menus. We were hoping they were serving Spiedini, as it's a special on most nights but not tonight. So we ordered the clams and meatball apps. The clams were delicious. Tons of bacon and garlic. The sauce was delicious I believe i started drinking it. The meatballs were good, but different. It wasn't your traditional blend of beef, Veal, pork. It seemed to be just Veal. They were very soft. The marinara, also very good. I also consumed like it was soup. That good. So for main course l, I was told the special of Veal Chop was the most popular dish they serve. They run out of it most night. My wife had the chicken scarporiello. I may have spelled that wrong. The Veal was fantastic. Bone in, breaded and very tender. In a mushroom sauce I believe. Hers, possibly the same sauce with scalloped potatoes and sausage. If you want a professionally cooked italian meal, come here. Make a reservation because this place was jammed up like the Tunnel on Saturday nights. (A night club i went to, ALOT) oh and my...
Read moreI hate to even give it one star, but the website requires it. Absolute worse restaurant I have ever been to. Hands down, the worse.
I went Saturday night, May 1, 2021 with my mother. We ordered one glass of house wine, which I guess, put us in the "ignore" category. Never saw the waiter again. Had to ask bus person for some water. A man, who appeared to be in charge, came up and took our order. I asked if there were any specials and he seemed very annoyed and quickly rattled off about 3 specials...in very broken Italian language, so fast, I don't know who would have understood him. Very ignorant. Two more tables were seated of various sizes. We heard him tell the specials to them and they included many more dishes than we were told.
Food was delivered by someone else. Bread was nothing special and frozen gold foiled butter patty was served with it. Can they not take the butter out during the day to soften it so it spreads. It was like a rock. The meal was equally as bad. I had chicken marsala and mom and chicken parm. My side dish was a smidgen of limp vegetables. My marsala was one piece of fat chicken (not even pounded down thin). It was not a good piece of chicken either. Very well done. The marsala gravy could be made by a fifteen year old. All very bland.
I'm totally astonished they have been in business this long. Such a huge disappointment!
BTW, please note, I dine out often and this is the FIRST review I felt...
