Located on Okaloosa Island, in Fort Walton Beach is Rockin Tacos. Me and my wife came to dine here on May 2nd, 2024 for a date night eating local. The restaurant is right on the beach and on the second floor of a tiny boardwalk shopping type areas. When you get off the elevator you or walk up the stairs you see a cute Rockin Tacos statue as you walk up to the entrance. Once inside you’ll be greeted by very friendly staff. They give you a choice to sit inside the restaurant or sit on the covered porch over looking that gorgeous emerald coast. Me and my wife started off with a couple of drinks which I ordered the boardwalk mule and she ordered the berry citrus cooler. My mule was alittle on the stronger side not saying that’s wrong but it was nice and refreshing after a very long day in the sun. I took a sip of the berry citrus cooler and I will say hers was definitely better and had a very good strawberry flavor to it. Our waitress Ellie hooked us up with a plate of chips and queso with house salsa. That house salsa was pretty dang good and tasted very fresh and did not have any spice (I don’t like spice anyway). The cheese queso was just a bonus and was delicious. I saw other reviews of the Mexican street corn so of course I had to try it myself and it did not disappoint. I’m a weeny when it comes to spice but this was very easy and tolerable just a slight kick to it but I enjoyed every single bite of that corn and all the flavors. For the main course I ordered the gator tacos and my wife ordered the cheeseburger taco. We’ll start off with the gator taco, it comes with two tacos, and has some Spanish rice on the side. The tacos were absolutely Rockin and knocked it out the park with the chipotle aioli sauce. I wish I could have more they were that good. Now I will say I wish the price was more friendly as the 2 tacos were $19.99 but you’re in a tourist spot so it’s expected to be alittle more no matter what beach you go to here in Florida but I couldn’t resist the gator meat. 10/10 highly recommend savor each bite because you’ll want more. Now the worst part of this visit, the cheeseburger taco. I would give the cheeseburger taco a 1/10 and maybe it was just me and my wife’s taste buds but it didn’t wasn’t good at all and I’m not sure anything could be done to save them besides just not ordering them. Now just that one mistake won’t ruin this review because everything else was a slam dunk. We came around 3 pm and there was no lines we got seated immediately, our waitress Ellie was on her game and got us everything we needed and was consistent with checking on us and getting us drinks if needed. Our food was extremely fast to our table so maybe 10 minutes of waiting or even faster. Tell your mom your dad sister brother or even your coworker this place has some pretty dang good food and drinks and views to go with it. Solid 8.5/10 will be back...
Read moreIf you enjoy lackluster food and rude staff (calling out the short Latino male with curly locks), this is for you. If you don't mind that the staff do not wash their hands after utilizing the restroom (calling out the long curly red haired hostess) and waiting 45 minutes for a margarita (the bartender was probably new), this is for you. If you enjoy eating your lunch while bussers drag a full trash can through the dining area to clean dirtied tables next to you, this place will be your next favorite go-to.
During our visit, this establishment was not packed with guests. Staff spent most of their time standing around except for our server - who was working multiple tables on the patio AND a large group in the back of the restaurant inside. I'm not sure why management would assign him this way, but I am sure he was in "the weeds" trying to take care of us all. There were multiple team members checking on tables to see if they have ordered yet, when the guests have not, these team members would respond with "Let me find your server." "I don't know where your server is. Let me find out who it is." "I don't know where he went." Etc.
Food was dry, kids chicken tasted like fish (probably cooked in the same oil as fish), margarita was watered down because it probably sat at the bar dying, and the only good thing was the chips and dips that our server gave us. He said it was because we were from his hometown, but I knew it was because he was in the weeds working his tail off.
We only saw one other employee actively working the patio, but I am sure she might have been assigned inside as well. Kudos to them for working hard. Management should rethink their daily assignments for their staff and their sections. I would hate to have come to eat during the dinner rush - I can not imagine.
There are no signs in the restroom stating that employees are required to wash their hands that I noticed, so come to think of it, maybe no employee ever washes their hands. You have been warned.
The beach view from the patio is beautiful, but we will not be back. I hope Management makes some adjustments for better, cleaner, safer experiences for...
Read moreThe location and ambiance of Detin, FL, Mexican Restaurant is excellent. All ages can enjoy it. It's very spacious, and it has beautiful beach views when dining on the 2nd level balcony. The sunshine and moist ocean air are an ideal dining setting on the famous Okaloosa Island. An expansive white sand beach separated the restaurant from the water’s edge.
I would call it a tourist restaurant with American-style Mexican food. The food was okay. We enjoyed the chips & salsa, and the lobster tacos and the white fish tacos. The white fish was seasoned nicely with ample toppings. I suggest getting an order of tortilla chips, guacamole, and queso to eat with the tacos. The guacamole was fresh, and the watermelon margarita was unique – really nice on a hot day. My favorite is Chicken Tortilla Salad and their Cervezas. In my opinion, the ahi tuna could have used more seasonings. There is certainly plenty on the menu to select from.
The staff was friendly enough; just expect slower service during prime dining hours. The birds, most pigeons, can be entertaining, as well as the boats that are coming and going. Great views of the Golf with parking, as can be expected in a busy area – plan ahead. The covered patio protects you from intense sun and inclement weather. You can enjoy a boardwalk stroll on the beach at the pier to take in the sights.
Prices are not low. I’d say to expect something near $50 a person if you are going to order appetizers, entrees, and...
