Went today for lunch after watching Blue Angels practice at the Navy Base. I haven't been there in years. I had all but forgotten this place! I saw some bad reviews this evening after I got home. Don't believe them. I took my mom there for lunch today and the atmosphere was relaxed and clean. There was one girl working alone, maybe one person in the kitchen but they took care of business. Friendly and prompt. Don't go if you're looking for fast food. This is good legit Mexican food, seasoned perfectly. We were in and out in probably 30-40 minutes. Grab a menu from the counter, let them know you're there and seat yourself. They will get to you. I had a deluxe dinner platter with one beef taco, one enchilada, one tamale, two tostada's , rice and beans for less than $10! A small order and chips and salsa for .99 cents. Mom had a beef taco, tamale, enchilada and beans for about $8. We both had (very good) iced tea. The tacos were fresh and crispy, the rest of the food had great flavor. Our entire meal was about $25. A lot of food for the money and good menu with lots of choices. Don't go with unreasonable expectations. Go with a casual mindset and enjoy it. It's too easy to criticize people who are trying to make a living. I used to own a BBQ place and my food quality and flavor was very consistent, yet for every 100 positive reviews I received there was always that one person who hated everything. You can't please every single person. Perception is everything. Go here and you'll add this place to your " must...
ย ย ย Read moreI left one star because Google would not allow me to leave zero stars. I placed an order by phone and was told I could pick it up via drive thru. I sat in the drive thru and no one acknowledged my presence (I will give them the benefit of the doubt because it was lunch time. I came inside to pay for my food and I was charged $17.00 for two items that should have only cost about $12.00 (if your rounding up a penny and including a 6% FL sales tax) While $5 may not seem like much, if that happens to 4 customers in one day that is $20 over in a cash drawer. In my personal opinion if a person can not count change back (without the register telling you) You probably should not work a cash register. I will "assume" the error in my situation was because I was charged for a drink I did not order. I understand human error, but if you charge me for a drink I didn't order and only hand me food, shouldn't you know you never made or even gave me the beverage you charged me for. The food was nasty with no taste whatsoever (maybe it was just what I ordered) On a positive note I do appreciate the effort of management, she at least acknowledged my issue, but I do not want free food or any money back..I just want to be able to walk into a food establishment, especially one in my own neighborhood, spend my money on a quality product, and receive half way decent and honest customer service. Most of all I don't want to be placed in a situation where I feel the need to address a negative experience on...
ย ย ย Read moreI had high hopes coming here based on all the reviews. It started out great. We ordered an appetizer of the fries with red sauce and cheese. The red sauce was so tasty; loved it. We also got chips and salsa. The salsa was good, but the chili pepper shaped bowl it was in made dipping awkward.
Then the meals came out. I got a deluxe combo dinner that had a beef taco, beef tostada, beef and bean tostada, an enchilada, a burrito, rice and beans. It was a lot of food for the price, which was great. But the ground beef on the taco and tostadas had a weird flavor I really didn't like and seemed kind of salty. The red sauce on the enchilada and burrito covered the weird taste. Disappointedly the beans were so salty I couldn't eat them. I tried mixing it with the rice to thin the salt flavor out but it was still too salty to eat.
The steak fajita plate was fine. It was a smaller portion than other places, but plenty to satisfy. Just no leftovers.
We were also disappointed that all the shredded cheese was what seemed to be shredded american, not the yummy white cheese most places use. We had asked for extra cheese for the fajitas not knowing that, or we wouldn't have ordered it.
If I come here or order from here again, it will be because of the super yummy red sauce. I could just eat the fries and sauce as a meal, to be honest. I am willing to even try the ground beef again to see if it was just an off night. Maybe sometime...
