I've been eating pretty unhealthy recently. In fact, my eating habits are so unhealthy that I'm on a first name basis with my Wendy's drive-thru cashier (shoutout to Sharon!). Unfortunately, last Sunday was different; I told my wife that I was in the mood for something healthy. "There's a place called Smoothie Spot nearby" she said less-than-enthusiastically. I should have taken that as a sign to turn the car around, but instead I obliged. As we pulled up I noticed a police car was parked directly outside of the front door, and I should have taken that as a warning sign of the crime scene that would await me within those walls. Against my better judgement, we entered. As a queer couple, we are used to getting stared down in public. In retrospect, the panicked stares that we received upon entering were likely warning signs rather than looks of judgement, but I digress. We made our way to the ordering counter. My wife confidently ordered the chicken bowl. I, on the other hand, decided to double down on my healthy mood and order the tofu bowl. The attendant slowly stirred the tofu (which was drenched in a mystery highlighter yellow colored sauce) as if it were a cauldron directly from hell. At first, I wondered why he was stirring the mixture for what seemed like an eternity. I now know that he was likely having an internal crisis, deciding whether or not to serve me the questionable contents that could only have been prepared by satan himself. I decided to give it a try anyway; I'm not the pickiest eater, and I didn't want to insult my wife by throwing away the food from a restaurant she suggested. As soon as we got into the car to leave, my stomach dropped and I was hit with a wave of nausea that still remains as I write this post. It has been more than 24 hours and I still haven't been able to eat solid food. There is no longer hope for me, but I hope to save others through this review. HEED MY WARNING, DO NOT ORDER THE TOFU! I'm not sure my internal organs will ever recover. Other than that, great service....
Read moreI was barely acknowledged that I was even here. I’m giving 3 stars for the food out of hope. My job was given a stack of cards for a free chicken Caesar wrap. I asked what kind of wraps were available and immediately asked what I wanted. Then, I’m assuming it was the manager because of the polo shirt, noticed what I had and made zero attempt to ask if I wanted it modified in any way, or if I had anything else I might want to order. Not “Hi” “thanks” or “bye.” At the gym where I work, we received a stack of cards as a way to promote the business and there’s nothing in this establishment I want to promote or recommend…I have many years of experience working in the food business and this was pretty damn bad. I won’t even start on what happened to the person in front of me.
*edit I do want to clarify to paint a better picture. The person who made my order was running circles around the crew. It was clear that stress from being overwhelmed led to what transpired. It wasn’t anything that was done, it’s about what wasn’t done. For a place like that to work, everyone needs to work together. Have an assistant manager or better training. Everyone behind the line needs to show initiative and work together. Even basic upselling would increase sales. I didn’t originally plan on getting a drink, but at that point in line at the register I probably would’ve said yes if asked about getting a drink. So, in conclusion (because I’ve seen bad outcomes from reviews), the store owner unfortunately is the one responsible in the end. No they aren’t there necessarily, but until they know it will run like clockwork, they need to be there to step in at a moment’s notice to take charge.
I went off, I know. That’s because this isn’t just me complaining. It’s not easy to run places that don’t provide a solid staff. That place could be a goldmine. Just a rough guess, but considering the traffic that case could do 7k to 8k m-f and 10k+ on Saturday...
