I find it very annoying that some restaurants are forcing customers to order via a kiosk, on top of that, this location had the gall to ask for a tip during checkout before I ever got served. Tips are for the service received. If I have to not only enter my own order but pick up my order from the counter why would I tip? That’s like going to a grocery store, using the self checkout and tipping the machine for giving me the honor of touching its screen and allowing me to do the job of a cashier while still paying full price. My mistake for adding the tip at the kiosk but it won’t happen again.
So, ordered my favorite, and the only burger I’ve ever ordered at any Steak N Shake (since the early 90s) - a Frisco Melt with lettuce, tomato and extra sauce. Couldn’t get pickles, not even offered on the kiosk. Like a trip to Taco Bell and I wanted a cheesy wrap with taco meat and tomatoes (because I wanted a Mexi-Melt when they no longer had them on the menu) but I couldn’t add that so I ordered everything at the counter…but not at this Steak N Shake, no, they can’t take orders at the counter.
So ordered the onion rings instead of the usual fries, a soda and a shake. Same thing happened this time at this location as it did the first time about a year before - the shake was ready before the food but only a few minutes, so not only did I have to get up to get our shakes but I had to get up again to get the food. This was on top of having to get my own soda which can only be dispensed once I scan a drink receipt under a counter mounted scanner that is connected to the soda machine. Then the Dr Pepper was out and when we mentioned it they said ‘oh we’re out’…why not put a sign on it like normal people do so we aren’t wasting our time or having to waste ice.
So the shakes were ready and after having to get up again to get spoons, because why include them or even mention that ‘hey, spoons are over there, get em your self’, I almost got a bite of it when the food was ready. Had to get up again for more napkins, twice. Barely heard them call my name, or any customer after us while we sat there eating our extremely greasy burgers that stuck to the paper liner in the plastic basket thingy they served them in.
I’ve never had such a greasy Frisco Melt in my life, and I’ve likely had over 50. I can do much better at home with their recipe but alas, I’m away from home by 2500 miles and couldn’t make my own this day.
The onion rings were undercooked and not very hot- well of course because they needed more time in the fry oil to get hotter.
Thankfully the Frisco sauce on the burger was exactly as it has always been, even the $0.50 I paid extra for was perfect. Although paying extra for a sauce that is mostly salad dressing (when I can get as much dressing as I want at Ruby Tuesday’s garden bar for no extra charge) is ridiculous and insulting.
So my experience here was not very good. Undercooked deep fried onions with little flavor, a burger that must have been from a very overweight cow due to the amount of grease fat they failed to cook off before slapping onto the eventually soggy sourdough bread that did not have the lettuce or tomato on it as that was brought to us separately with a whole slice tomato which was so fun to put on a burger that had been sliced in half. On top of a shake that I had to choose to let thaw a bit, allowing the whipped cream to melt into the shake, so I could eat said greasy burger and undercooked onions before they got to room temperature which would have made the experience so much better, he said sarcastically.
Top it off with having to bus our table.
The next day one of us began a steady regiment of visits to the toilet along with shots of Pepto to down the Imodium becoming eventually triumphant in overcoming the results of our experience here this day plus eventually getting their blood sugar back down to a manageable level.
I recommend the shake, in the drive thru, to go, with a lid. Ask for a spoon before you drive away. No tip....
Read moreWe entered the establishment to what we can only describe as a complete sh#t show. Two workers walked up confused and disoriented saying they dont know what is going on and then just walked away scrambling like there was a fire somewhere in the building. We waited over 20 min to be seated while atleast 7 tables were open just waiting to be cleared off. As we watched all the servers and the manager walk around and look clueless on what to do we should've just left but we had already promised the kids shakes so we figured it could only get better once seated. We were wrong. Our server which was most likely her first job came over 15 minutes after we had been sat and asked if we'd been helped she said she would come back for our drink order. 8 minutes later she returned to take our order plus our drink order. 26 minutes later still no drinks but she did look at our table numerous times to smirk and wonder why we were still sitting there almost like she wanted us to walk out or maybe she just forgot where she was. We watched another table seat themselves and try to bus and clean a table so they could sit atleast and a manager watched them to only do nothing to help. We finally realized we were never going to get service let alone drinks so as we began to leave our clueless and extremely useless server walked over and smiled as we said we were leaving. Another millinial with 0 work ethic. As we left we told the Manager Charles what happened and he pretty much said I'm sorry and if we want to call Corporate the number is on the door. I guess this is to be expected when most of the menu is under 4$ and the establishment is managed by a clueless very unprofessional shift manager that probably should be greeting people at Walmart rather than in charge of numerous employees in a restaurant setting. It's easy to make someone happy especially when all you had to do was sit us in another section and give us just a glass of water so my pregnant wife and our 3 children wouldn't collapse of dehydration. We appreciate the pointing to the door for corporates number since that was the first time we were actually acknowledged the entire time we were in your restaurant. The staff could use a little direction but when leadership is just as confused and lacks the care or responsibility it's a disaster waiting to happen. We went up the street to Millers and we were able to sit, have a drink, and eat our meals in the time we stood waiting for a table here. Just completely embarrassing when Millers was just as busy and with...
Read moreThis is the first and last time I will ever eat here. We walk in, are seated and given menus. A few minutes later our waiter shows up and takes our drink order which was a shake for me and my spouse ordered a glass of milk. He said he will start those and come back for our order. About 10 minutes later he came back with the milk and said he was working on the shake. He took our food order which was a burger for me and a bowl of chili for my spouse. We waited a good 25 minutes and he puts the food on the table and tells me he will go get my shake. (Total time I waited for my shake was over a half an hour.) Anyways, while he was getting my shake I started to eat a french fries and it was cold and I do mean cold, even the ones inside the pile were cold. The waiter comes with my shake and since I brought it to his attention, he gets me hot fries. Mind you, we have no napkins, no fork or anything. By the time I got my hot food and shake, my spouse was finished eating so it turns out we eat alone since if he waited for me, his chili would be cold. So I try and eat quickly which just kills the whole experience of a nice relaxing time out over a bite to eat and as I am choking it down I take a sip of the shake. Well, I know why there is a plastic spoon in it. What I don't know is why he bothered giving it a straw. There is no liquid, it is a cup of slightly melted ice cream! By this point I was so disgusted I asked for a to go cup, poured the lumps of ice cream into it and left figuring it will melt in the car eventually. Believe me, if I could have given this a lower score, I would have since as far as I am concerned,...
