Over the years, we have purchased hams from this Honey Baked store for family dinners at various holidays. You used to be able to open the wrapping in the store to see that the ham was top quality for the top prices we paid. The store discontinued that practice a while back, possibly around the Covid epidemic. Since this no-peek practice was adopted, the quality of the hams has gone down hill. I'm not certain if quality control was deliberately diminished as the customer would have no way of knowing what sub par food they were buying until it was served to family and friends. But, I must say that a focus on company/store profits over customer satisfaction has crossed my mind. The frequency of the sub par hams we received over the past 2 years has gotten to an unacceptable level, with the $88.74/8.5 lb ham we purchased on April 17, 2025, for Easter family dinner, was the perverbial straw that broke the camel's back. While uncovering the ham to plate it, we noticed that the gold aluminum covering looked as though it was previously partially or fully removed and there was an attempt to re-close the aluminum. Once removed, that fear was made even more probable, as it became necessary to remove a non-typical layer of fat, about an inch and a half wide, running from the 6:00 to 12:00 position directly underneath the brown sugar outer layer. We removed this excessive fat layer and weighed it on our kitchen scale. It weighed 1.5lbs. We noticed that many dinner guests were not taking ham pieces or had cut even more inedible fat from the slices. As is customary, we always look forward to ham sandwiches from the left overs in the days following a holiday meal. When we carved what usable meat was left, we weighed the fat and bone being thrown out. That unusable fat and bone weighed 4.5lbs. With the original 1.5lb removal of fat, the total waste was 6 of the 8.5lbs or 70% of this food product. That right there is enough for me not to return and just buy a ham at Costco. In addition to not saying hello, when I walked up to the register there was still no acknowledgement, the woman (who I assume to be the manager) was busy checking receipts I believe. The young lady stated they were not taking reservations on line and to come in the store and we could just pick up your items and it would not be an issue. We drove from Port St Lucie to Stuart and when we got there we were told we could not have a turkey without a reservation. Why were we not told this before we made the drive.
