Melon-cholic Tales from 'Taco Bar’
As a bonafide epicure, I set off to the 'Taco Bar' with a gourmand's enthusiasm and a trencherman's appetite. I walked in with a hopeful twinkle in my eye, only to emerge with a new kind of fear — the fear of watermelon margaritas.
Upon ordering this supposed "crown jewel" of their menu, the waiter presented it with a grin that was, in hindsight, more of a grimace of sympathy. The drink arrived in an offensive shade of neon pink, one that might have been a dire warning if seen in the wild.
My first encounter with the margarita was unforgettable, akin to wrestling a watermelon that had been partying hard for a week straight. Instead of being a light-hearted dance of summer flavors, it tasted like a requiem for a fruit past its prime. The tequila seemed to recoil at the audacity of the synthetic watermelon, creating a concoction that could coax your gag reflex into a standing ovation.
The term "vomit-worthy" feels generous when used to describe this watermelon margarita. It's more of an insult to the act of vomiting, really. But in the spirit of optimism, it did create a unique bonding moment at the table. Nothing says camaraderie quite like shared revulsion, right?
If you crave a dare in your daily life, the 'Taco Bar’s' watermelon margarita awaits you. Sipping it might just become your new definition of living on the edge. It's one for the books, definitely. Would I suggest trying it? Well, it depends on how strongly you feel about your taste buds (or your enemies). At the end of the day, the margarita at 'Taco Bar' sure knows how to leave a lasting impression, albeit a rather...
Read moreI was really looking forward to eating here. With such a long line there was much anticipation. We ordered 4 tacos and 1 margarita and our bill was $45 +tip. while we were waiting for our food trying to find a table there was impossible. We were finally able to get a table but it had no chairs and was dirty. A young man brought our food over and paused for a moment as though he was waiting for a tip. When he did not get one, he said a smart remark about being kind. I picked up my fish taco and the corn tortilla fell apart and my fish taco ended up half on the dirty table and half in the paper container it was brought out in. The same thing happened to both of my husband's tacos. The food was not good. It was not fresh. It was cold and flavorless. The staff there was less than personable. They seemed very rushed and not very helpful. What really pushed me over the edge was the tiny sign I saw hanging being the bar that said a 15% gratuity was added to each transaction! I was furious! We tipped on the receipt and no where on it did it say that gratuity was going to be included! Honestly, the bartender did nothing but take our order and in my opinion didn't deserve a tip. he didn't even make our drink or bring our food over. Those are the people that deserved our tip. AVOID this place! The food is not good they rip you off and it's...
Read moreWe ordered 3 shrimp tacos, 2 sides of beans and rice, and two non-alcoholic drinks from the bar area for lunch, during our first visit to the Seaside area. The tacos and side dish were around $5 each, so I was surprised when the bartender told me my total was over $43. But the area in general is pricey, so I figured my mental math was off. A receipt was texted to me & I noticed later that a 15% tip was added to my bill without my knowledge. This was before the keypad requested a tip when I put my credit card in. So they were tipped twice. I do normally tip, but I didn’t feel the bartenders were deserving of an over 20% tip. I had to ask for help when the bartenders were standing right in front of us without smiling, greeting us, or asking if we wanted to order anything. Food is brought to the table, however, but not by the bartenders. Hopefully those people get some of the tips. . I just thought it was odd that a party of two was auto charged a 15% tip without being told. When the shrimp tacos came, I saw a lot of corn and had to find the shrimp. Our tacos had 3-4 small shrimp on them each. The flavor was good, but my teenaged son had to eat something else when we got back to the condo. It wasn’t a lot of food...
