Very disappointed with our first visit, after hearing so much positive word-of-mouth about this pub! I had to make sure there was only 1 British Pub in St. A.
We walked in, St. Patty’s Day, 7pm-ish, 5 people in the bar. I ask for a margarita. Bartender says that there is only beer & wine-infused-well-liquor. I asked: so, do you have tequila? She said: we do; but, it’s really low alcohol content. I was confused. Did they lose their liquor license? Has it always been this way? If so, management should update the website and FB page description.
Meanwhile, my husband & daughter hadn’t sat down yet. They were sidetracked at the end of the bar, by a woman who had a tiny newborn kitten that she had been keeping under her shirt. It looked only hours-old. As we left the bar 3 minutes later, she walks out with us & a couple of others. She proceeds to open the trunk of her Civic, and there is a box of newborn kittens. No mama cat. I asked where she was. The woman said she scared her into the back seat. I looked from where I was standing; I didn’t see or hear any trace of a cat. It was hard for me to believe that a cat would not make an appearance as her babies are there. It was 55 degrees outside. There wasn’t even a blanket covering the babies. I think she may have been selling them right out of the trunk. In retrospect, I wish I had gotten her plate number & reported it to animal welfare or something. We wish we had done more for them. I’m hoping the bar staff that also knew about these kittens helped them.
Overall, not a good experience to end our day-trip into historic StA...
Read moreWe ended up here after driving around for more than an hour looking for a restaurant that didn't have an hour and a half to two hour wait. So we were looking for a place to order food and it kind of is. The bartender behind the bar was awesome. She was very sweet and did a great job explaining. They do have food but it's frozen food that you do in an air fryer. We were looking for a nice dinner. They do have menus for the restaurant next door and you can order there, which we did. Normally they bring it to you but they were so busy that we had to go over and get it. Not a big deal though. I would say this is straight up a bar, which is fine, but we were kind of looking for a restaurant. I liked the leather Booth along the wall it had the Union Jack flag. They have darts and they have quite a few beers on tap. If you're looking for call Brand liquor this is not for you. But we enjoyed being there and it will be part of a funny story for years to come. We were treated very well by the bartender. She...
Read moreI would like to explain the reasoning behind my five-star review. As an out-of-towner, we walked in to a bar that was close to our place of stay. We were quickly welcomed by a fantastic human that we came to know as Jack. He talked us through all of the Halloween (seasonal) drinks that we had to choose from, in addition to what was on tap/draft. My husband, a lover of Guinness beer, was very impressed by his pours of the beer. We had very friendly conversation and learned a lot about not only the bar, but the area in which we were staying. After an entire night of walking around and seeing multiple different sights, we ended back at The Pub. Jack’s name is fitting for him; he is truly a jack of all trades. He is not only an ambassador for his place of work, but also for the community that he calls home and made us want to return to the Pub and St. Augustine time and time again. Thank you, Jack, for an experience of a lifetime. We hope to see you each time...
