For the past day, I've been thinking of anything positive I can say about my experience on Sunday, 2/20/22, and sadly I cannot. To preface this review I will say I grew up in Texas, lived all over this state, and a lived in a few others. I've gone into a place expecting mediocre or subpar Mexican food, but I believe this is the most disappointing I've ever been in a Mexican food restaurant, given the reviews. Don't trust any of the people below reviewing this place.
Experience: Wife and I are moving near this location so we wanted to try some of the restaurants nearby. I was torn between this and Craft Pies; I should have chosen the Pies! Upon entry I felt something was amiss, despite it being Sunday afternoon the location didn't seem busy and we didn't get hit with any smell of Mexican food as soon as we entered. We were seated at a table, a table that had a really wobbly top and the waiter tried to adjust instead of sitting us at another table. He begrudgingly moved us to another table they did brings chips and salsa. While the salsa was okay, the chips aren't made there, they are packaged chips. After looking at the menu my wife decided to split an order of fajitas, no alcohol because we like to make sure food is solid before giving alcohol money to a location. The waiter didn't ask if we wanted corn or flour tortillas nor if we wanted charo or refried beans. The food came out surprisingly quick and when we started eating we immediately noticed something.
While we didn't want to make a fuss when they asked how everything was and just said, "okay". By no means was this service okay. Let me put it like this, avoid this place as I can explain all the above upon reflection. The fajitas were likely someone's previous old abandoned order, which means this is something they are commonly doing to save money. At worst this means things are pre-bought or pre-cooked and they are just warming them up without maintaining proper temperatures. The bad, wobbly table means they aren't keeping up with maintenance. The experience with the tortillas doesn't sit well with me to be honest, these aren't homemade or tortillas from scratch. These are 100% store bought, I understand a restaurant wants to make money, but this is not the way chief.
Finally it also comes down to experience and kindness, we never felt the waiter cared and it seemed they just wanted their shift to be over. We never asked for much outside changing tables and didn't complain or make a fuss, and even then the staff was busy chatting to each other instead of tending to customers.
Given the level of service and the poor food, just save yourself money and go to the nearby Taco Bueno, or in-fact just go hit up your nearby Rosas or something to that extent. This experience only makes me thankful I didn't get food poisoning. Let it be known that no gift card or apology will ever make me come back until I know the management or staff changes here. You can feel free to refund me though, but this review isn't coming down. If they do care about customer experience feel free to reach out to me, and we can schedule a call or something. Until then, change your name to Menos, at least then people will know that when they walk in the doors, they will have a Lesser experience than a fast food Mexican restaurant. Go...
Read morePlenty of better Tex Mex options out there. Pick one of those over Mena’s. Server, Rodolfo, was very rude! Manager not on duty and never followed-up. This is at Mena’s in Flower Mound. There were 4 of us and they brought 3 salsas. It took so long for the server to even come and take our order even though at the time we arrived there were very few customers and plenty of staff just standing around chit chatting with each other. So we finished the salsa and asked the server if we could get 4 salsas while we wait on the food because we had chips left over and we’re pretty hungry. He said it would cost us extra. At first, I thought he was joking, but he wasn’t. I’ve been to Mena’s many times before and never have they asked us to pay extra for salsa refills. So I told him just bring us one. Then we ordered. My 10 year old son wanted chimichangas and the server asked what kind of meat. I asked him what the options are and he seemed rather annoyed by the question and said chicken, beef, and brisket. I asked if the beef was ground or steak and my son asked me what’s brisket. The server responded with, “do you guys need more time to decide?” And he started to walk away. I told him no and ordered. If we weren’t so hungry, I had half a mind to walk away and go to Esparza’s or Mi Cocina or Anamia’s. Mena’s is definitely off my list after this experience. They charged extra for me asking for replacing the rice that comes with my Salmon with veggies and the Salmon was so small and not very good. The server couldn’t tell me how much extra the charge was. They charged extra for salsa refills. The prices are no cheaper than anywhere else, the service was horrible, and they nickel and dime you. In the end the check he brought out did not have an itemized list just the credit card receipt showing total. We were in a rush so I just gave him my card because we had tickets to a show at the Gaylord in grapevine which was awesome by the way. Anyhow the total for me, my dad, my 10 year old and my 7 year old was $78.86. We had 2 salmon, 1 chimichanga beef, and 2 tacos. I think we would have been much happier at Mi Cocina or Esparza’s or Anamia’s and paid a bit less too and had better food and better service. My recommendation, skip Mena’s. If you have a similar experience to us with your server there, they don’t even have a manager on duty you can speak to. First time, I’ve left a $0.00...
Read moreThis place has good food, overpriced, but good. What upset me is when I ordered on uber eats for the second time during this covid time, they forgot the salsa and it was considerably smaller than the first time we ordered the exact same thing. Mind you, we had been in person before this time. I called to ask if the order was supposed to come with salsa she said yes then put me on hold in which she hung up and said the call dropped when I called back(maybe it did drop...). When I called back she didn't put me on hold, but put what I assume was the manager who said it was partly their fault but mainly the uber eats drivers fault for not checking that there was salsa. Not having salsa wasn't a huge deal, but the way they responded was not professional. Also, the last time we ordered the exact same fajitas and there was literally double the meat compared to this time. There was 5 pieces of beef versus 10 pieces. I feel there should be some consistency for a price that's almost $16. Sadly I do not think we will be ordering...
