Sooo disappointed! Coconut Joe’s was very good when we went a 6-9 months ago. However, we went a month ago, the Saturday before Easter. Service was not stellar but food was ok. We went again on Mother’s Day ( only because the wait to be seated was less than another restaurant, should have gone to other and waited). We were seated right away. Got our drinks, promptly. It when totally “south” after that. Server took our order, then awhile later he came back apologizing that he forgot to put in our order saying he will “comp” our meal. He kept saying meal was coming out. After 50 minutes of waiting it was too late to just go somewhere else. We got there at 11:30, 2 of our meals came out at 1:10. I left at 1:30 and my husband’s meal still wasn’t there. My grouper sandwich, was more bun, lettuce and tomatoes than grouper( I had seen this sandwich in past where it was a beautiful portion) fries were cold. People around us were not getting their orders. The table next to us ordered chicken and they said there was something hard and strange in the meal. There was an obvious management issue going on. I understand holiday weekends are difficult for restaurants (that’s why I waited a few days to write this review). This “cluster of errors” was more than a Mother's Day fiasco it was clearly another dining establishment that is on its way down and out if changes are not made.

For a beach town bar/grill, this place is excellent. The only reason I didn’t 5 ⭐️ it is because it isn’t fine dining, but it was as good as it gets for this type of restaurant ! We had a great night at Coconut Joe’s. 2 adults, 5 kids. It’s very family friendly… so much so that there’s an arcade upstairs. This was awesome because we sent the kids upstairs to play in the arcade, extending our evening so we could take our time. The restaurant has huge windows that are open on nice days/evenings, so even if you’re inside, you feel like you’re eating outside… which is what you want at the beach. We had great service! Our waiter was fun and attentive. He took great care of us. The food was good. We had: a variety of smoothies, a kid’s corn dog, which he loved. Kid’s chicken strips… she didn’t like, but she’s picky. They looked amazing. The fries were a little spicy though, so she didn’t want those either. A BLT which my daughter ordered, not understanding Mahi-mahi is fish, but she seemed to like it. A big, giant burger. I had jumbo crab cakes, which might have been the best crab cakes I have ever had. Also a little on the spicy side, which I loved. And my partner had the Coconut Shrimp. It was delicious!!! Sometimes with Coconut Shrimp, it’s a big ball of batter. Not these! Lightly battered and you actually taste the coconut. We will definitely go back!

Food was fine and affordable, but the overall experience and service was very poor. Upon arriving, there was no hostess at the front and just general disorder and confusion about how to get seated. We were seated about 5-10mins later and that’s when the real confusion began. Keep in mind, the table the hostess sat us at had just been cleared. My party of two was seated and it took 10mins for us to even be acknowledged (we had to reach out to the hostess for help). People around us who were seated after us had already gotten water and placed orders. I watched the hostess ask various servers whose table ours was and everybody declined responsibility (again, there seemed to be no confusion for the party that was seated at the same table before us). When we finally did get a waiter (a guy who walked past us at least 4 times prior to acknowledging us), the service was poor. He didn’t know what was/wasn’t on the menu and barely checked on us (but frequented the table behind us). We had to flag him down for service several times. Overall a very strange and uncomfortable experience.

Title: A Tropical Culinary Paradise: Coconut Joe's Delights the Palate

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

Nestled in the charming coastal town of Folly Beach, South Carolina, Coconut Joe's is a culinary oasis that transports diners to a tropical paradise. I recently had the pleasure of dining at this hidden gem, and I must say, my experience was nothing short of extraordinary.

From the moment I stepped inside, the friendly and attentive service set the stage for a memorable dining experience. The staff at Coconut Joe's went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my visit was met with warmth and professionalism.

Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the food! To start, I couldn't resist ordering the coconut shrimp appetizer that had come highly recommended. The first bite was a revelation of flavors and textures. The succulent shrimp were perfectly coated in a crispy coconut crust that provided a delightful contrast to the tender meat. It was a true symphony of sweet and savory that left me wanting more.

Intrigued by the shrimp trio, I decided to indulge my taste buds and ordered the dish, which included coconut shrimp, blackened shrimp, and fried shrimp. Each variation was cooked to perfection, showcasing the chef's expertise in balancing flavors and textures. The coconut shrimp remained a personal favorite, with its irresistible tropical twist, while the blackened and fried shrimp were equally delightful, offering a satisfying contrast in flavor profiles.

Coconut Joe's recently opened bar and grill provided a fantastic dining atmosphere, offering both indoor and outdoor seating options. Whether you prefer the lively ambiance of the bar area or the relaxed serenity of the outdoor patio, you're sure to find a spot that suits your mood. The vibrant and inviting tropical decor added to the overall experience, transporting me to a beachside paradise.

While every aspect of my dining experience exceeded expectations, I do have one small request. I would love to see the talented chef at Coconut Joe's create a pina colada sauce specifically tailored for the coconut shrimp. While the orange marmalade sauce provided a zesty kick, I found it a tad too spicy for my liking. A pina colada sauce would perfectly complement their award-winning pina colada, creating a harmonious marriage of flavors and enhancing the already outstanding coconut shrimp.

In conclusion, Coconut Joe's is an absolute culinary gem that captures the essence of tropical indulgence. With its exceptional coconut shrimp, delightful shrimp trio, and attentive service, it is a haven for seafood enthusiasts and those seeking a taste of paradise. Whether you're enjoying the newly opened bar and grill or savoring the outdoor dining experience, Coconut Joe's promises a culinary journey that will transport your taste buds to the...

I am not one to write reviews very often, but as a local who frequently plans reservations and activities for corporate groups and wedding parties in Charleston, I felt the need to share the experience I had. Over the weekend, I had a group of friends in town for a bachelorette party. I had a great experience dining at the IOP location, so I was quick to recommend the restaurant for our more casual dinner. We planned the weekend months in advance and the MOH contacted Coconut Joe’s for a private party reservation. Although they do not take normal reservations, we were informed that they make exceptions for bridal parties. We were torn between two different reservation times, so the MOH had frequent contact with the restaurant over the phone. She called earlier this week to confirm our reservation, and then received a text confirmation. Unfortunately, this was for the incorrect time, but when she called to address this the day before the reservation she was reassured that we were absolutely able to dine at our requested time. When we arrived at the restaurant that evening we were told we did not have a reservation and that we were not able to put our names down for a table for the remainder of the night. This was clearly very upsetting for the bride and those of us who helped to plan the event. When we asked to speak to a manager, we were told that he was unavailable because he was “too busy”. We insisted on speaking to him since we had a large group with a specific itinerary and were worried about finding a table elsewhere. When he was able to speak with us he was extremely hostile and dismissive. I was not entirely calm and was combative, but the situation was completely unfair. He walked away for a few minutes and returned to the stand saying that he would find us a table but to give him a few minutes. During our time at the front desk, we heard numerous other tables come to complain about poor service or wait times. We ultimately decided to find another dinner option because of the aggressive comments and lack of...

I don’t normally leave reviews, but Coconut Joe’s completely ruined what was supposed to be a fun and special part of my bachelorette celebration. My sister made a reservation well in advance for our group, confirmed it multiple times, and was told we were all set. When we arrived, we were told they don’t even take reservations and that we couldn’t even put our names on a waitlist. We were literally trying to be helpful and patient, and instead we were met with attitude and zero accountability.

When we asked to speak to a manager, we were told he was “too busy” to talk to us. We waited anyway, and when he finally came over, I was absolutely appalled. As the bride, this was something I had been really looking forward to, but after witnessing how rude, condescending, and downright disrespectful the manager was, I wanted to leave immediately—and I’m SO glad we did.

To make matters worse, during the time we stood there, several other guests came up to complain about wait times, poor service, and general disorganization. It clearly wasn’t just us.

After all the runaround and disrespect, the manager eventually said, “Fine, I’ll get a table ready in 5 minutes,” as if he was doing us a favor—after his staff told us earlier they wouldn’t seat anyone else for the night.

Coconut Joe’s left us disappointed, disgusted, and angry. The lack of professionalism and decency was shocking. Save yourself the stress and take your business somewhere that values its guests and honors its commitments.
