I got the kara-miso ramen and a kaarage here, and I am honestly shocked that I found a ramen place that I prefer the sides over the actual ramen. The ramen had a pitiful amount of toppings, with the chasshu pork being quite plain compared to typical chasshu. There was only two slices of chasshu as well, but the egg was as least soft boiled. I ended up still hungry after eating the ramen, so I got some kaarage, and it was quite nice, although, the fact you have to pay for any sort of dipping sauce (which the choices were between mayo and spicy mayo) was quite a shame, mostly since they didn't have the sauce I prefer to eat with kaarage, being ponzu sauce. The service though, was quite good, which is the reason why I am giving it 3* instead of 2*.
EDIT: I really don't like being this petty, but with how poor the online side of this business is with their response, I honestly have to say I wouldn't recommend this place at all, even for the kaarage nor the customer service. I can read the topping list, and honestly? It is a lot less than any authentic ramen place I been to throughout my travels. It's fine to focus on the broth, but I focused moreso on the topping to be nice. Frankly, it wasn't spicy at all, even if it was the "spiciest" ramen in the store, as one can see from the menu tags. The unami flavor is quite lacking too, and it felt as if the oil base overtook the sauce and broth elements of the soup. Ramen is oily, I understand that, but when you claim it is "broth based ramen", then at least balance your sauce, broth, and oil elements. Also, ask for ponzu? I asked which dipping sauces you had. All I was told was mayo or spicy mayo. If you had another sauce, then the server should have said something, as my assumption was that there was no other dipping sauces, and I didn't want to ask for a sauce that you might not be able to procure, as overall, I was fine with something like tonkatsu sauce or even just an unami/eel sauce if there was nothing other than it and a mayo based sauce. That is why I asked, "Do you have any dipping sauces?" And for advice to responding to reviews? I don't expect bootlicking. But maybe if you don't respond as pretentiously as you did, and responded in a more neutral manner, then I wouldn't have responded like this. Even though I didn't like the ramen, I would have came at least for the tapas as the kaarage was quite good save for my one note, and I was willing to try out other things and add to my review later with perhaps other things I liked or even change it, perhaps trying the rice bowls. But honestly? I never want to step my foot even near the...
Read moreOur family went for right before lunch on Sunday and we were seated immediately.
salt tonkotsu ramen: the noodle was good but a little bit too soft for my liking. The chasu was delicious! It was tender & had sweetness and I could taste some char on it. The broth was good and hearty & not too salty. The only thing that kinda tasted off was the ginger slices. It was too much that was overpowering the broth. I wish I could have them on the side instead. kids ramen: my kid loved it. It was a perfect combo for him: noodle, chasu & corn. He even finished all the broth. mayo chicken rice bowl: they gave generous portion of chicken pieces. Hubby said it was good but the portion was rather small.
Overall, the service & food was good. We would come back when we are in the area.
UPDATE: It's been a while since we ate here. We decided to have an early dinner at 5:30pm after we saw the sign that they have chicken katsu. We were immediately seated after we entered the restaurant.
Chicken katsu set: the chicken pieces were thick & tender. The coating was crispy. My hubby asked for the second bowl of rice because it was that good. Maze Abura soba: delicious! This soupless ramen had generous portions (I asked for free extra noodle). The vegetables were fresh and crunchy. The meat was super flavorful and the onsen egg was soft and had...
Read moreFirst time eating at Fukumi Ramen. I ordered the titular Fukumi ramen, which featured a salt tonkotsu broth with extra pork chashu and black garlic oil. The first couple spoonfuls were great, since the sweet char of the chashu and the garlic flavored the broth amazingly, but the more I dug into the ramen, the more I wished for something to cut the richness of the meal.
The only veggies in the ramen were the beansprouts, green onions, and small nori sheet on the side. Something sour, like some pickled ginger would have gone great, especially since, according to the menu, some bowls were topped with it. The fattiness of the pork, the flavoring oil, and the innate richness of the tonkotsu made it almost difficult to finish halfway through. Thankfully, I decided not to order the extra noodles that come complementary with the ramen, or else I’d be uncomfortably stuffed right now. The regular amount of noodles is already a lot!
The service was great, and the staff checked in on me a couple of times without hovering around. Overall, a good experience. It’s a bit too far from home to come often, but this place is something I recommend to try if you are into ramen. I definitely want to come back to try the...
