Even with a table of six we were seated promptly and served our drinks quickly. Our waitress was OUTSTANDING and the food, as always, was well worth the short wait. Ala Roma is a no-brainer if you want genuinely good Italian food in the Fond du Lac area !
Update :
My wife, sister-in-law and I just had lunch here ( again )...and the food, like always, was HEAVENLY. The soup ( creamy chicken and rice ) was amazing as was the main course ( build your own pasta: Tortellini Alfredo with meatballs ). I heartily recommend Ala Roma to ANYONE who's even remotely a fan of Italian food...you simply can't go wrong !
Another update :
I stopped again today for a business lunch and had the same thing that I've had on several previous occasions ( Tortellini Con Pesto minus the tomatoes and mushrooms; see the attached picture ), as it was so good. This time my review is of our waitress, Gina -- she was WONDERFUL ! She was the perfect combination of attentive but not smothering, refilling our drinks and checking back sporadically to make sure we didn't require anything else. On top of that she was very engaging and always had a smile on her face. Waitresses like her are often the difference between an unremarkable dining experience and a truly memorable one. Thank you very much for how well you treated us, Gina, as well as your attention to our needs...we REALLY appreciated it !! 😁👍
Still another update :
My wife and I stopped in a couple of days ago for dinner and I had the Baked Ziti with alfredo sauce and meatballs with chicken noodle soup. Two words: absolutely HEAVENLY ! To top it off we split a slice of Turtle cheesecake, which was totally decadent and was a wonderful end to our meal. No matter what I order from Ala Roma, it's always...
Read moreSo we have always absolutely loved this place, and that’s been cemented even further by our experience last night.
Overall, the food has always been delicious and very consistent in its presentation and flavor. Phenomenal dishes, well-developed flavors, lots of care and attention to the balance of elements on the plate.
Several dishes I’d highly recommend: Any pasta with the pieces of steak in it. My GOODNESS is that steak tasty, and of course every pasta dish I’ve tried has been as well. The burrata appetizer. Just incredible. French onion soup Beef ravioli The salmon salad - holy moly is the salmon cake delicious (kinda like a crab cake and bursting with flavor)
One thing I will say is that many of the sauces, while super tasty, have always been quite runny, which makes it difficult to enjoy the sauce with the pasta since it runs off. What made last night different was that the sauces were a perfect consistency! I don’t know if that’s a recent change, but I’d personally love to see that more!
Also I have never had even remotely bad service any of the times we’ve dined. We have been so delighted by each team member we’ve interacted with!
Special personal preference note: the limoncello martini is lovely but too sweet for my personal taste, so I asked for it to be made just a little tart. The bartender did a fabulous job and added a little bit of lime juice, which helped personalize it to my liking. So in case that’s anyone else’s preference,...
Read moreMeh. Our server was good, but we didn't get her name. It didn't appear that any staff were wearing name tags. The food portions were LORGE, but not homemade. Salad greens were fresh. The hostesses could use some CS training. We were given a beeper and told a 20 min wait. No problem. We decided to take a seat in what could easily be described as the bar room, at which point the young hostess quickly came to us and tersely declared, "You can't sit here. You have to wait," and walked away. Ok. Sorry for our mistake. This would have been an opportunity to explain to new guests that this area of the bar room is for dining; please take a seat by the entrance doors while you wait. While we waited on the bench next to the entrance doors, a young child approached the hostess desk and asked a question of the 2nd hostess. The hostess replied saying she'd have to wait for her table (not sure what was asked). The young child gleefully replied ok and turned to join her family in the vestibule waiting for their table. As the child walked away, the two hostesses shared a glance and a completely unnecessary eye roll. Very unprofessional. I spent my young working years as a hostess in a very busy supper club. Behaviors like this would not have been tolerated. We treated our guests- new and regulars- with respectand kindness. Do...
