Oh, MY. Tijuana Flats is My Kinda Place!!
We paid our first visit on a recent Friday for dinner. And. It. Was. Awesome!
Tijuana Flats occupies the space that used to be...(wait...I have absolutely no idea what used to occupy this space)...something else and opened recently. I had never heard of Tijuana Flats before and I love, Love, LOVE Mexican, so this was an easy choice.
The inside was very clean and very colorful. From the Louisville-ized mural on the wall to the color coding on the Hot Bar, it's a color feast for the eyes.
You order at the counter they bring the food to you when it's ready. Since this is our first visit we had questions, which Justin was able to answer, and he also provided helpful suggestions. The menu isn't enormous, but it's well-suited to the establishment, covering the typical Mexican fare with some sides and a few specialty items. Since I'm a huge fan of Street Tacos, I went with the Green Chile Street Tacos. We also got a Chips and Guac starter.
Food delivery took less than ten minutes, and the food was hot and fresh and the tortilla chips we still warm. The guac (freshly made) was 100% awesome!
Between the chips that came with our starter and the chips that came with our entrees, we had A LOT of chips! (note: All entrees come with chips)
My Green Chile Street Tacos were most excellent! I tried one sauce from each section of the Hot Bar.
Oh, man, I gotta tell you about the Hot Bar.
The Hot Bar is their sauce/salsa section. There are 3 different sauces on each of 4 sides. The bottom of each section is color coded to go with the heat level of the sauces on that side. Green for mild, then yellow for medium, orange for hot, and red for Holy Hell Hot! It's a completely cool and a completely clever way to provide the sauces. There are paper cups available as well.
As we sat there was someone coming out to take care of the dining room every few minutes. There are no trash cans because they clear the tables after you leave.
The décor is colorful, that atmosphere is fun, the service was great, and the food was excellent. We will MOST...
Read moreThis was our first time visiting the restaurant. We arrived excited and left very disappointed. While the customer service was great and the staff were attentive, unfortunately the food was absolutely horrible. We ordered the atom bombs, chips and salsa, queso, Mexican rice, black beans, hard shell beef dos tacos, steak quesadilla. The chips and salsa were great! The chips were seasoned and the salsa tasted fresh. Aside from that, the first thing we noticed is that everything was extremely oily and greasy. The atom bombs, tacos and quesadillas were all literally dripping with oil and it made overshadowed any other flavoring. I was excited to try the atom bombs because it’s flour tortillas filled with different cheeses and jalapeño. How could you mess that up?! So much potential but the only thing you could taste is the oil. The ground beef in the tacos and steak in the quesadilla were unseasoned and bland. Same for the rice and beans. Spent $55. Prices were a little high and definitely overpriced for the quality of food. Will not be returning or recommending this...
Read moreCame here today and they got my order wrong. That's not a big deal but they made it difficult to correct. I ordered two meals they only brought one. Took them a while to bring out the second meal so I'm eating while my friend is not. Anthony, the young skinny guy with dirty blonde curly hair, was rude. He brought my friend's food out and tossed it on the table and just walked away. Bailey the manager finally corrected my receipt but he was not very friendly either and when we mentioned what Anthony did he acted like it was no big deal. Sam, upfront and Gary in the back are super nice. You need more employees like this! I've eaten at Tijuana flats in Daytona Beach for years and never had this issue. Everybody there was always extremely nice. I assumed this place would be the same but I was wrong! I would love to come back here but not if this is the way it's...
