It really pains me to write this review. Shreeji was one of my favorite restaurants in Louisville and I always had a good experience. Recently, however, they are under completely new ownership, management, and staff, and I couldn't be more disappointed with my experience with the new team. My mother and I went four days ago for lunch and were on a bit of a time schedule, but certainly 45 minutes would be enough time to get lunch, because that was our experience in the past. We ordered mixed pakoda (which has the exact same description on their menu as the spinach pakodas for some reason?), a mango lassi ($9 and maybe 8oz), chai tea, and daal makhani curry (which doesn't come with rice and must be ordered separately for FIVE DOLLARS which is absurd) and our order was almost 50$, which is insanely expensive for vegetarian street food, and double what it would have been when Shreeji first opened years ago. It took 20 minutes alone for them to bring out the mixed pakodas, which were three very poorly battered and fried green peppers, and the worlds thinnest battered and fried potato slice. For $9. And again, their menu described this dish as a spinach pakoda. They told me my curry was on the way, just a couple minutes. Several times in a row, just a couple minutes. It was now 45 minutes after first placing my order, in a restaurant with NO customers who placed orders before us, so I went up to the counter and said you have taken too long, refund and cancel our order, we have to leave. My mother and I walk out and go to my car, where shortly after, a man runs out of the store and comes up to our window, and says my food is ready and wait just a couple minutes. I tell him that time is an issue and we arent interested, and he REFUSES to accept that answer and runs into the restaurant to get us my food. He does return in about a minute, with the SMALLEST amount of curry ive ever been served in a to-go bag. He THEN has the audacity to say just wait a few more minutes let me get you something else to make up for it. We told him a million times, the issue here is TIME. I actually had to roll up my window and drive off because he just would NOT take "no" for an answer. Absolutely insane experience, never had service this bad at a restaurant in my life. Really such an incredible shame that the original owners sold off their restaurant to new people with absolutely no clue what they're doing. Most of these good reviews on this page are for the old management and staff, who were great. As it stands, nothing on earth could make me go back to Shreeji again, which used to be such...
Read moreThe most important thing I can say to anyone wishing to try Shreeji: order your food online! This is not a nice sit down restaurant with table service, so do not go in expecting that. If you are wanting that from an Indian restaurant, there are several other options in town for you to visit. Shreeji is a wonderful place to visit if you are prepared to have authentic street food. The food is made to order, so it is fresh, hot, and delicious. Here, the focus is on the food and it’s homemade flavor, which is why I recommend ordering online and picking it up. When we entered to pick up the food, the restaurant was packed with people waiting to order and get their food. But once it was our turn to come to the register, our food was already bagged up and ready to go. Everyone watched with surprise (and jealousy) how quickly we were able to get our food. So I say: order online! The food was awesome. We had chole bhatura, fried rice, pakora, and a dosa (the spicy one). I think my favorite was the pakora and chole bhatura while the fried rice and dosa would come last. We will definitely return as customers. After reading the other reviews I want to try the khasta kachori chaat. Also, I don’t know why people are giving back reviews for cleanliness or service. Maybe it was really different months ago, but this time it was spotless and service was fine. It’s a family...
Read moreWe are so lucky to have so many incredible Indian restaurants popping up in Louisville. Enter Shreeji, one of my favorite all vegetarian street food restaurants. In India, street food is typically called "chaat". You would get it from a street vendor and eat it while walking down the street. They are typically covered in chutneys and are some of the most delicious Indian items you can have. Crispy, sweet, spicy, tangy, and crunchy. It's all the flavors in one. That's why I love Shreeji. I can get all the street food goodness at once. My favorite is samosa chaat which is a samosa covered in chutneys: green(cilantro & mint, spicy) red (tamarind & sweet), yogurt, and topped with onions and sev (fried chickpeas chips). I have also loved getting pani poori here. Is one of my favorite things to have, but annoying to make yourself. The poori are fried puffed dough, which are easy to pop. You fill them with potatoes, chickpeas, onions and tomatoes. You drizzle chutneys on them and then down the filled poori in pani (spiced mint & tamarind water). It's truly a street delicacy that tastes better when you don't have to put your own work into it. I come here for the chaat, so I can't speak to the entrees, but I can tell you...
