Delicious, attentive, old building glamor are a few kind words to describe this place, but wait, there's more!
We went in on a Sunday morning pretty late for a Sunday breakfast place (10:15a), you guys know how they get, but were sat within the time frame stated by the host (10-15min). We got there literally RIGHT before the rush. It got insane fast, waiting area filled to the brim. We got sat with Jess near the back of the restaurant so we saw the madness ensue. The servers never got chaotic or impatient though, everything ran smoothly.
FOOD: so good. I got the Kentucky Cornbread, I wish I had a picture. It was something different that I'd never seen on a menu before, like a cornbread biscuits and gravy. Genius, get it. My husband got a special (Jalapeño Popper Skillet) and asked Jess how to make it because it was so yummy! I also got their London Fog, if you have never had one this would be a good place for your first.
JESS: super attentive, always had our waters/teas filled, took our order in a timely manor even though she seemed to have a full section (I mean the whole place was packed. Including the waiting area when we left.), asked us if we needed Togos, got our bill taken care of quickly as well. On top of just doing her job she was friendly, kind, and obviously wants to be there not just to make income but to make your day a little better as well. She is definitely a unicorn in this day and age where it seems like servers just don't care anymore.
Kinda wish they had a bigger space so more people could enjoy this place like we did. But such is life! END NOTES: get there before 10a, order the Kentucky Cornbread & London Fog, ask for Jess as...

That being said, the food was delicious. We were a little bummed in the beginning because when we got there we were the first in line but the only seating was a table right by the hostess stand, so we asked to wait for the next open booth. They sat the 4 people behind us in the available table so we waited in the cold waiting area for quite some time. When we saw the booth coming available we figured we would be sat soon... but continued to wait for some reason. When we looked inside again the waiter had given the 4 people at the table the booth we were waiting on. So, longer in the cold we sat because someone who was there after us snatched the booth. Whatevs, we took a small 2-top in the back so it was still nice. The food came out pretty quickly, the waitress kept our DELICIOUS macadamia coffee topped up the whole time, and their selection of hot sauces made us super happy. I do have a gluten intolerance, but usually can get away with small amounts with only mild discomfort. I ordered the corn bread with sausage pepper gravy and breakfast potatoes. There was only a small amount of gravy and since that's what would generally have the flour I thought it'd be fine. Man, I was wrong. By 7:00 that night I was in so much pain. I had such a huge reaction I couldn't believe it! Well silly me, I refused to believe it was their food so the next day I ate the leftovers... same story of whale songs and gut-midget wrestling in my body by diver time. Just be careful what you choose - their glutens are...
Read moreWe LOVE Bluebird, however we had a very disappointing experience this visit. We got two varieties of their Eggs Benedict. Apparently, no one told the cook or line person or prep worker the recipe for the Hollandaise sauce (egg yolks, butter and LEMON JUICE). If they used just these three ingredients something was BAD…. No tartness, white in color and tasted just like bad dish water. Hollandaise should be light yellow in color and have a zing or lightly tart taste. Neither of us could finish our Benedicts after one or two bites. YUCK, just bad. To top if all off after we paid we kindly told the waitress about the issue (even tipped her well). She didn’t like that we didn’t like our meals, never asked about them when she picked up our mostly uneaten meals, and then explained that they make it fresh daily, it was in fact Hollandaise and they don’t use packaged stuff. She was obviously taking it personally and insulted us be adding that we were used to something packaged because their sauce could not be wrong…. LMAO. I am 64, have eaten a ton of Hollandaise, have a brother who is a chef, etc. I know what Hollandaise is and isn’t and that was NOT Hollandaise sauce. It was gravy or a white sauce of some type with NO LEMON. Ask to taste test it prior if you are a Benedict fan as I am. Lots of other good choices on the...
