UPD: upon receiving a generic-like “owner response” I am thinking now that the problems we experienced on our visit are more likely of a systemic nature than an isolated incident - which makes Aventura location rather a pleasant exception from the “Morton’s ways”… it is really sad. But to ask for “additional details” on a multi-page detailed review, AND “the location” on a GoogleMap’s(!) review of a specific location… makes me pretty sure that no one really bothered to read and comprehend but instead a designated media-stuffer used a canned response to yet another less-than-stellar review… Definitely, a systemic failure, with real management not giving a ¢2 about what really happens in their businesses as long as “the overall picture shows green in the bottom line shows green”..
Sad as it is, I am done with Morton’s…
ORIGINAL review: .. Went to Morton’s for a timid family gathering. Normal, just with any other Morton’s, subtle atmosphere (a music is a little louder than in most). But that is where it gets “different”. The server visually tries to be proper. He’d come to scrape off the crumbs few times, needed or not, with a complete disregard for the timeliness… don’t know, maybe just been recently promoted from bass?.. That wasn’t critical at the moment, as he did appear to be quite friendly (although not courteous, if you know what I mean). But then, the food arrived. That is where the real disappointment has began rooting in… my “medium-rare” came in rare (see the photo) - wouldn’t be THAT much of a deal with Filet Mignon IF not for one thing: the cut was obviously wrong! Veins in a Filet Mignon… that is not just poor training - a wrong cut in a prime stake house!.. I had been to couple Morton’s before, but this Ft. Lauderdale location is not the one I’d be coming back. And, sadly, that wasn’t an accident: our other dish, Dry-Aged Ribeye (!), came properly cooked BUT with such a bad case of veins - you couldn’t chew it! So, 2 out of 3 dishes have been of the wrong cut and one of those, on top of it, is under cooked (HOW can you even undercook a medium-rare?!!) - that clearly screams out “pick another place”!!
Overall, it would be a nice diner; but it is, presumably, a prime stake house, even more of that - a reputable, Morton’s! Disappointing is the word.
And, just as a cherry on the cake - they even tried to overcharge us on the drinks (oops, we are sorry, of course you had a 12-year old GlenLiveth, not 18-year old; we will “give you a discount” right away) - and the manager had it “adjusted” BUT instead of correcting the positions we were charged for (and honestly have consumed :) - but he used a “customer relations discount” - a handout to a problem client, right?!!
I am sure it is rather an isolated accident; but it also clearly shows that the problems rooted deeper and, in my humble experienced opinion, the management cannot handle it but to jump in on an occasion and...
Read moreLast night, I visited the establishment on 500 E Broward Blvd Suite 127, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33394 for a 6pm dinner with my wife. I was very excited as it was my first time and my wife decided to treat me today. However, everything about tonight’s experience was off-putting and upsetting to say the least. First, we were seated at the far rear of the restaurant. It was hot and there were fruit flies. Next, our waitress did not offer us any of the special menus. I overheard several waiters telling their diners about the menu and had to ask one of them about it because we had not heard. We were told that we would have to ask about specials in order to be told; however, none of the other diners asked and was offered this information almost instantaneously upon being seated. Upon gathering the information about the"$49 Summer Menu" and the "Steak & Seafood for Two" from another waiter, I asked our waitress why we were not told about these offerings before ordering. She indicated that she had totally forgotten about these since we were only her first table for the evening. She asked my wife and I if we would like to see the menus and she would just stop our order so we can have a chance to make a fair determination on our order of the evening. However, she left our table, got the menus, and went to the manager of the night instead. The manager approached our table and insisted that we had asked to speak to a manager. I indicated to the manager that we never asked to speak to the manager. We were just wondering why we were not given the other menus like our counter-diners. The manager's question to us was "did you guys order already?" I told him yes. He said well I can let you see these menus but there are only for Landry Club Members and this was why we weren't offered them initially. He indicated that we could apply for the membership and when we visit again, we would be able to benefit from these offerings. Nowhere on any of Morton's The Steakhouse brochures, site, or even Facebook does it states this. In fact, we got ongoing conflicting information from the staff. I asked the server who brought out our food if we would need to be members of the aforementioned club and she said no. I asked one of the waiters that we overheard and he said that they were for members but if we had they would have made an exception. To add to that, my wife asked the waiter if there would be alfredo sauce in the scampi and she said yes. This was kind of confusing but the scampi was not with alfredo sauce (as expected) and the shrimps were overcooked. I am just truly disgusted by the actions of the staff at this location. It was upsetting and it made me really...
Read moreI love Morton’s, it has always been one of my favorite places to visit. this review is specific to my visit tonight at the FT. Lauderdale location.
I was excited to go to Morton’s for dinner, having been a frequent guest at the Boston location for many years. This was my first time at Ft. Lauderdale.
We were greeted by Amanda, who was extremely friendly and accommodating. She provided us with drinks and appetizers, everything was going great. It was a relaxing evening with good friends and conversation.
When we were finished with the first course, another server came out of nowhere and advised she was going to take our dinner order. Amanda was coming up behind her and she quickly turned around stating “you’re busy inside”. We had no idea what was happening, if we were changing servers mid meal or what.
We had decided to order a bottle of wine that was served by the glass off the wine list - the server brought it out without presenting it, hidden under her arm while she opened it up and made a comment to my friend about how we would be surprised about how many times people send back the wine they don’t like. I tasted the wine and didn’t enjoy it, asked for the wine list so we could choose another bottle.
It seems that the dinner soured significantly after this.
One of our party finished, she proceeded to begin clearing plates from the table. She was bringing to go containers and dessert menus out before I was halfway through my $60 steak and sides - my other friend was still enjoying her meal.
She came back to the table before I was done with my steak and asked if we had any questions about the dessert menu. That is when I requested she allowed us to finish enjoying our meal in a not so friendly manner.
I’ve waited tables on and off my entire life, working in five star restaurants. When you visit a high end steak house, it is expected that a relaxing atmosphere would be provided with exceptional service especially with the price you are paying. Not one that rushes you out the door so the next table can be sat. We didn’t even want to enjoy dessert at this point, honestly our over $500 meal was ruined (3 people).
Overall the food was alright, after this experience I’d rather continue to spend my money at the Capital Grill.
Highly disappointed with Morton’s tonight, which was supposed to be a celebration....
