I was so excited at the prospect of a new restaurant in the Fort Mill area, and then what could be more perfect than an Indian restaurant? I checked daily for the opening on their web site, and finally the opening came. Given the holidays we had to wait, and then yesterday evening we had our first chance to try Persis. The restraunt itself was inviting, and the hostess sat us quickly in a booth. Sadly that was the last positive service related experience we had, but as far as service was concerned, I can understand and accept that the restraunt staff may still be getting things organized. However, we could have overlooked poor service and long wait times if the food itself were superior, sadly it was not. Forgetting for the moment that our server was apparently inexperienced and could not seem to get drinks served or orders taken, we waited an excruciatingly long time for an an appetizer to show up. We ordered samosa, and for the most part these were very good. Crispy and spicy, not bad at all. After a very long wait, my wifes chiken tikka showed up singularly with not a hint of the remainder of the dishes ordered. The companion rice and naan breads we had ordered were nowhere to be found. My wife proceeded to eat her warmed chicken and about 10 minutes later two bowls of chicken tikka masala showed up for my son and I. We had asked our server about spice levels and were told we could select mild, medium or hot. Given our experiences we chose medium, and while we still had no rice or naan we started at the chicken. Not only was it not medium, there appeared to be no spice at all. The base itself was savory and if it had been spiced it may have been somewhere on the average scale. The chicken had a strange texture, perhaps it was due to being overcooked? I can't say for sure. About another 10 minutes later the rice showed up and then another 5 minutes later the naan showed up. Our waiter advised that cooks were providing direction to get the food out despite the fact that our table was spread out over a 20 minute period for the various plates being served. I don't recall having ever experienced dining like this, ever, in my adult life. In fact I have never taken the time to write about a dining experience, ever. Back to the food, the naan I would describe as average but then again much better than anything you could buy at a grocery store. I'm not trying to ding Persis here, I want them to succeed and given the food desert we live in here in the area they will likely succeed despite the the food and experience. Sadly, I had such high hopes but as my mom always said, first impressions matter. There is a fantastic Indian restaurant in Pineville that we will continue to frequent in the coming years, but I leave it to those seeking great food to explore and discover it for themselves. I was so hopeful, yet so disappointed. I am also a firm believer in making your own decisions in life, so go try it...
Read moreMy family recently visited my daughter’s college in Rock Hill and decided to try Persis Indian Grill in Fort Mill, since we enjoy their location in Columbia, South Carolina. We were not disappointed. Persis Indian Grill, in Fort Mill South Carolina, is located in a small shopping center that offers an array of parking spots that include a variety of handicap spots that are located in front of the restaurant. Once opening the Persis’s door, the aroma of Indian spices smothered me with excitement. The restaurant offers lunch from Monday- Friday: 11 am - 2:30 pm and Saturday-Sunday 11:30am- 3pm. Dinner is from 5pm - 9:30pm Monday - Thursday, on Friday - Saturday 5pm -10pm, and on Sunday 5:30pm - 9pm on Sunday. I would recommend going to lunch or dinner once the restaurant opens, because Persis tends to get busy, since there is not a ton of seating. Even though there is limited seating, they do offer tables for those with disabilities. In addition to their wonderful authentic Indian food Persis also has a full function bar that offers an array of cocktails, beer, and other alcoholic beverages. My family ordered a side of Garlic Naan bread, Shaam Shavera Kofta, Kaju Malsa, and Korma; all of the entrees come with a side of rice. Although the prices are pricey, ranginging from $10 - $25, one will not be disappointed. The portion sizes are larger than the average restaurant and the flavor of the food is authentic. You can tell Persis puts love and care into every dish they serve. Two aspects I enjoy about Persis is that they offer an array of vegetarian options and one can choose their spice level of their entree ranging from baby - extremely hot. If going to Persis for the first time I would suggest ordering the baby spice level to see how your taste buds interact with the spices. However, if your dish is too spicy for you to eat, the staff does not have a problem bringing you a new dish because they truly care for their customers. In addition to their delicious food the restaurant was extremely clean without any visible dirt throughout the dinning hall and restroom. If you are in the Fort Mill area and want to try authentic Indian food, I recommend trying Persis...

Disappointing continuously !! Dishonest management and eat at your own health risks. It has been a while I reviewed a restaurant.... I especially wanted to take time and write this one for awareness. Last 3 times in past 2 months I have been to this restaurant. My experience is [Given the fact they charge comparably high $16 +] I was served stale food , basically left overs from the previous day or week as it seems. I am originally from India , and it is so easy to figure out if the food is fresh or not because in India 99.9% of the time food is eaten fresh at most within hours of preparing it.
I ordered "Goat Biryani" , a go to dish in the label place like Persis. Needless to say this was the last time they got my money...
That philosophy seems to be totally taken off the charts, as far as Persis is concerned!!. This is a disturbing trend with the India restaurants lately, and that I have noticed the enthusiasm and the passion for customers and food just disappears almost immediately the place/ restaurant receives some recognition. Sad but true.
I have eaten in this place before it was so so, the food wasn't exceptional , it was , at the least prepared fresh. Today , as were the previous 2 times in the last months food here was a disaster...
For anyone who is a food enthusiast or has a taste for Indian food knows that is it flavorful , spicy and unique because of the nature of ingredients. Especially it is freshly made. It is one thing to say , hey you know what it may take more time to prepare, we are out of the food. It is totally another thing to serve you food because it is a business justification, even if it means making someone sick.
Persis is a famous South Indian restaurant known for it's meats...
