My partner and I frequent Kings Kitchen and have since it opened. So why two stars?
The food is five stars. The quality of the food has always been very high and consistently so. Even with the changes King’s has seen over the last few years. That’s a mark of an excellent restaurant.
Unfortunately it’s the only reason why King’s gets two stars. Everything else is disappointing and that drags my rating down.
First the service is never great. It’s always either slow to nowadays it’s impossible to get in most of the time unless you have a reservation. But, if you make one, it’s a gamble as to whether it’s actually written down somewhere. So when you arrive you may or may not actually have a table.
Part of the slow service was, once upon a time, waiting for your food. It would take awhile to place your order, and then you’d wait a while. The longest I’ve waited was over 2 hours. This was before the renovations and the place becoming a mob scene. To King’s credit, the time for your order to come up has markedly improved.
The other aspect used to be the owner. He’d come out and greet every table except ours. Never really understood why he didn’t like us. It never bothered me so much as to say anything, but we always noticed every time he’d never say hello. Considering the amount of money we’d spend and the generous gratuities…you’d think that would earn a “hello”. Never has even to this day, but I don’t see him making the rounds like that much anymore.
Finally the ambiance has shifted. The renovations have turned it from a cozy small town eatery to a South Beach style restaurant. The live music especially. The music is good…but goodness it’s LOUD. If an F-16 went full afterburner next to your table you wouldn’t notice it. The salsa music would drown it out. Why that volume level is needed for such a small outdoor eating space I don’t know. But it’s shouting-level voices if you sit outside. Not pleasant at all.
On the inside, tables are so close you’ll be dining with other guests. Not fun. Weird and uncomfortable. If you’re COVID-orientated toward social distancing, you’ll have a panic attack in here. We aren’t, but personal space is still a thing when dining out.
Overall….some of the best food in town and the worst service in town too. Worth going? Yeah as long as you have patience for it, you’re belly...
Read moreNow let me begin by saying this is no dine in or get comfy restaurant this is strictly Togo food aka fast food but way better. I kept seeing his ads on Facebook and I wanted to give it a try. I googled the location and Sunoco gas station popped up I was so skeptic on even making the drive because I'm not a gas station food eater just seem like to many health codes are being violated if you ask me. Not sure why but Florida seems so big on restaurants in gas stations for some reason, but that's here nor there. Anyway I made it inside and I'm very glad I did. The gentleman running Kings was so personable and made several recommendations. I also over hearing telling a gentlemen that if there was something he wanted not on the menu he could make given he had the ingredients. I did verify with him that over heard correctly when it was my turn and he concurred, so that's great! I came in for the Kings cup thingy but left with three different orders all for my son and I. He was running a 6 piece wing, fry and drink special for $6.99, so of course I got that, along with some 3 beef tacos and chicken quesadilla. He uses the big chicken wings no small BW3s wings, large flour tortillas for the quesadillas and flour tortillas for tacos. Once I got home and was able to give it a try, I was like wow great lunch and extremely filling (leftovers) and all for $15.00 for everything can't beat that with a stick. I recommended giving this place a try for sure, don't let the station...
Read moreWe had been here twice before and it was good so when my son and parents came to visit I made reservations to take them here. There was a huge amount of what looked like prom kids leaving. I had requested outside seating so we could enjoy the live music. Our server and hostess were sweet. We ordered cocktails but they were just ok. Our appetizers arrived but we still had no silverware. I asked for water for the whole table, she only brought one for me and my mom. Our dinners came but we waited a long time for my mother’s dish we told our server and she apologized when it came out she told us her dinner had been brought to someone else we were almost all done eating when she got her dinner. My husband has the churassco but it wasn’t hot. Three of us had Ropa Vieja which was fine. My mom had the sea bass which she said was good. We shared the combinacion dessert which was good. My son and I ordered Cuban coffee. She brought us two mugs of regular coffee (maybe she didn’t know what Cuban coffee was or they didn’t have it?) but our coffee was cold! I told her when she came back she apologized and brought us fresh brewed. We were very disappointed with the service. She knew all these mistakes happened. Could have at least not charged us for the coffee or my mom’s dinner that was given away or for the dessert just to compensate us on all the mistakes made! Not sure if we will be...
