Just Ok...I eat sushi regularly around fort walton and destin, I've been wanting to try this place but was kind of disappointed. Upon arrival we were told we could sit at the bar which is full service or a table which is self service. The bar has 4 seats and there was someone in one of the middle seats with her dirty napkins spread around so there really wasn't room to sit there. So we found a table. We went to the counter to look at the menu on the wall, after a few minutes we decided we should look on the website for the menu because it was going to take us a some time to decide what we wanted. We went back to our table, went to the website only to discover you have to register as though you are making a Togo order to see the menu. I went to the order counter to ask for a menu and was told they are "over there on that table", at the hostess station, so I went to host myself and get a menu. We ordered 4 sushi rolls, a rice plate, some gyoza and squid salad. $120 before tipping. This is typical of what we spend when we go out for sushi. The gyoza was good. After waiting about 20 mins for our sushi rolls, they arrived, still no squid salad. I asked about it and got it about 5 minutes later. The Cucumbers were delicious, the squid was ok, but very flavorful cucumbers. The sushi rolls were disappointing. We eat regularly at okinawa, soi bistro and domo Cafe and the quality of the sushi rolls for the price is much better at all of those places. Typically when you get a sushi roll that is rice with a little something in the middle but nothing on top, they are less than $10, not here, those "basic" rolls are $15ish here. Most rolls that are that much at other places have a nice slice of fish or something on top. Not here. Also the rolls you get are not 8 or 10 pieces, they are definitely smaller rolls than you get at other restaurants, in quanity, not in rice, theres plenty or rice in them.... So the value for the money here is not there. The quality of the fish was good but the quantity was lacking. Also the rice plate was supposed to be fried rice. There was no egg in it, only peas, carrots and corn???...they should definitely omit the corn, the yellow of the corn doesnt replace the yellow of the egg...my husband loves food and wouldnt even finish his rice. This place is okay but overpriced and lacking service. The staff were nice but their interactions were as limited as possible. Doubt I'll ever come back here again. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great, it won't make it on the sushi restaurant rotation...
Read moreThe chef didn't wash his hands appropriately after using toilet. Although something disgusting and uncomfortable brought about our vomiting and diarrhea after eating here, so-called manager don't even seem to care let alone didn't take any proper measures for it, which is beyond disappointing and unpleasant! Last Sunday we visited this place on the way to the airport, which was second-time visit. ( Last time1st of Jan, which was my first visit, I was pretty much satisfied with the sushi. plus, staffs and servers were attentive and African-American chef was welcoming customers and very friendly based on my memory) But this time, one white chef made the sushi roll we ordered right after coming out of restroom. We noticed he just touched a small towels and we made eye contact by chance. And then he rinsed his FINGERS ALONE with the tap water right next to him without hand soap or any thing. He DIDN'T wash his FULL hands and BUT RINSED VERY LIGHTLY FINGERS ALONE! And then touched and made raw fish like salmon and sushi rolls. ( We took photos) Waiting for it back then, we just assumed African -American chef would make ones for us and the white man would prepare sth for restaurant and didn't consider it serious. Since we didn't have much time before flight, we just ate in a hurry. Moreover, my wearing a big hat back then stopped me from recognizing him at the table. And then less than 50 mins my stomach felt a bit weird and vomited and my brother had diarrhea several times until next morning. It was the moment both of us recalled 'the unhygienic scene'. We FINALLY noticed what we had was from "the chef". We doubted our stomach upset has much to do with what happened and with what we saw. Like I mentioned above, there was no problem on 1st of Jan (our first visit) F.Y.I, the African- American guy was wearing gloves when making sushi but the other one was NOT. Anyhow, on our second time we both had problems. It's kind of shame that I kindly informed the staff named Mr. Randy of what we experienced. I did spared my time to let them know, giving it a call. He did very carefully listen to me even though my English speaking was never fluent enough and thankfully and he had patience about it. (Mr.Randy was great server by the way I even remember him) Anyways, the owner not to speak of manager didn't even try saying sorry or try giving me a call-back until now. ( 2days passed already) It ITSELF REPRESENT A LOT. They dont even take seriously and must be nonchalant about it. This is unbelievable and...
Read moreI've been looking for a decent asian place for sometime and I decided to try this place because it had decent ratings.
I have ordered the yakisoba and a spicy tuna avocado roll and my friend ordered their ramen.
It was kind of strange that it was a restaurant and you order at a counter and then sit down. Since they have waiters/waitresses. But to each it's own.
First to come out was my roll. Now I'm not sure if this is normal but my fish came out a very dark color, almost brown.
Now I'm from Hawaii and I've been to Japan so I know what it looks like when fish is a day old and has been sitting out for a little bit.
I had asked the waitress if this is normal, since I'm not from Florida and maybe their fish is different from what I'm used to. She had stated that other fish is pumped with nitrogen so that's why the fish there is a little darker than what I'm used to. I believed her even though it didn't make sense to me and I continued to eat it since I unfortunately already paid.
My yakisoba had come out next, in addition to my friends ramen. My yakisoba was bland and luke warm. But again, I ate it since I already paid for it. I just wanted to get out of there as soon as I could.
My friends ramen came out luke warm as well and it had no flavoring. She had asked if she could have something to make it spicy and have more flavoring and by the time that came her ramen was cold. She requested a refund and luckily there was no trouble there.
If I could give this place no stars I would. But I give them one star because the service when handling these issues was decent. Great job to that girl who took care of us.
I'd suggest going to domo cafe since it's pretty...
