I think I’m pretty lenient and tend to overlook a lot of minuscule details, but there are two things that I couldn’t get over with and make me give them only 2 stars.
Food: I’ll start with the bad first. Well, it’s a revolving sushi bar, so I don’t expect top-level quality sushi here. My major issue was the limited options on the carousel. One of many reasons why the concept of revolving sushi bar is so appealing is the vast options on the carousel. Here, it seemed that there weren’t many varieties. I understand that everything costs more, so they have to watch for their bottom line. But based on what they already have in stock, I believe they could’ve offered so many things that aren’t inexpensive and still keep the cost in check, and their customers would be happy with the appearance of more selections as a result. Ramen wasn’t terrible, but prepackaged ramen kit from Costco still managed to be more flavorful than this.
On the upside, hot food items were better than okay to good. Crispy squid was better than the rest, but it could’ve been great with Japanese mayo rather than serving with sweet chili sauce. Beef over rice was better than average and was given generous amount of sauce. Surprisingly, the best part of all food served was their wasabi because it had the texture that I personally liked.
Service: Generally I don’t really care much about service unless it’s exceptionally outstanding or unforgivably awful. Again, it’s a revolving sushi bar, and I don’t expect to be pampered or checked upon constantly. Everything was fine until I was ready to pay. I understood that my server had a lot of things to do, but what’s the point of taking my card and returning it exactly 21 minutes later. (Had my server came back 4 minutes later, I would’ve missed my train to DFW and subsequently missed my flight.) He could’ve run my card and got it out of the way so he could attend to other customers or finished what ever he needed to do before taking away my card. The service wasn’t bad, but waiting 21 minutes to get my card back was too long.
In conclusion, I originally wanted to give 3 stars, but with the reasons provided above, I had to reduce to 2 stars. And on the other note, I couldn’t help but compare to other revolving sushi places since more places like this start to pop up in Fort Worth. I hope they improve in the future and will return in a few months and adjust my rating accordingly. If this place is a local business, I really want them to thrive and succeed before the big...
Read moreTl;dr - hit or miss: hot foods were decent and some good; sushi was mushy and flavorless. We gave it a shot trying many things. Give it a try if you've never experienced revolving sushi before but there are better options.
Was super excited about a revolving sushi place so close to my house rather than driving to Carrolton for Kura revolving sushi but this place was disappointing. Compared to Kura, Akarii's portions are smaller at a higher price per plate, and the sushi is flavorless. For 22 plates, 4 extras and 1 soda it ended up being $114 before tip. At Kura: for 30 plates, 4 extras and 2 sodas its usually $110 before tip (plus you get a prize for every 15 plates)
There were 2 of us that went and, for a sushi place, our favorite things ended up being their hot foods: the fried spring rolls and mini pork dumplings were great.
The sushi itself was ok....we tried many different items (4 different hot food plates, 18 different sushi plates) and they were pretty much the same...the raw fish whether tuna, salmon, yellowtail etc were mushy without any texture or bite to the meat although none of them tasted/smelled funky so it was fresh (maybe previously frozen?). The rice was extremely bland (not sure if they seasoned it at all which is a major part of nigiri and the rolls) and soft/mushy like it was cooked with too much water. They had pork and shrimp shu mai which were also ok but rather mushy and doughy. When we left, we both just had a weird feel and aftertaste in our mouths.
While the restaurant itself is nice, clean and in a good location, it was very awkward having all the servers standing against one wall just staring out into the eating area; though the servers were very nice.
I won't say that I'll never come here again, I have high hopes that it'll become better, but right now I'd rather drive the 35 miles with a toll road to Kura before I drive the 4...
Read moreI have to base my review on other conveyor belt sushi locations I've been to. Let me start with the positives: They have a large, diverse menu, so even people who don't like sushi will have multiple options to choose from. My waitress was friendly and very attentive, which I appreciated, as their computer was not intuitive to me. In order to order something not on the conveyor belt, you pick it on the screen and hit enter/okay. However, I did not know that you then have to open up your order history, pick it again from your history, and then send it from there. It's an extra step that is not intuitive for me, as a first-time user. This extra step was also not explained to me when I arrived. The plates are also a little more pricey than other conveyor belt sushi locations I've been to. However, I'm not convinced that the quality is that much better here. There is also no convenient place to place your plates once you're done with them, so it can get a little cluttered in your area. They are counted at the end of your meal.
These are just my thoughts. If you live in the area and you like sushi, I definitely recommend giving this place a try, as it allows you to try a lot of different menu items. The quality of the fish is fairly good, if a bit bland. I'm just not likely to go out of my way to come again (it's a bit of a...
