During a recent trip up the I-35, my husband and I decided to make a pit stop at the Black Bear Diner in Fort Worth Alliance. Anticipation was high as we stepped into what can only be described as a cozy, cabin-esque retreat, bustling with activity. Despite a longer-than-anticipated wait of 30-35 minutes, we opted for counter seats and were promptly greeted by Caroline, our server. Her attentive and friendly service was a highlight of our visit, enhancing the overall dining experience. The menu, extensive in its offerings, catered to a variety of tastes. My husband, an enthusiast of breakfast-for-any-meal, chose 'The GRIZZ' - a hearty platter featuring sweet cream pancakes, eggs, smoked bacon, sausage links, a smoked ham steak, and a side of biscuits and gravy. Meanwhile, I succumbed to the allure of a classic Reuben sandwich. Presentation-wise, the dishes were inviting. However, the taste and temperature of the food left something to be desired. My fries were disappointingly cold and lacked the expected crispness, and the sandwich, while flavorful, was sparingly dressed with Thousand Island, diminishing the overall taste. The corned beef, however, was a savory delight. My husband's breakfast was satisfactory, according to him. The pancakes, though flavorful, suffered from a slightly doughy texture, falling short of the fluffy ideal. The bacon was substantial and well-flavored, but the biscuits and gravy, though tasty, were served cold - a letdown for such potentially delightful dishes. The hashbrowns, described as rubbery and likened to grilled sliced mashed potatoes, were a particular disappointment. On the brighter side, the eggs were perfectly cooked, and the ham steak reminded us of familiar flavors from the past. The pricing was reasonable, aligning well with the quantity served. While the ambiance and service were commendable, the inconsistency in food temperature and some textural mishaps lead me to give Black Bear Diner a 3.5-star rating. Caroline's exceptional service nudges my review to 4 stars. I believe with improved attention to food temperature, this diner has the potential to fully satisfy its patrons. In summary, Black Bear Diner offers a charming atmosphere and a vast menu that promises much but needs to ensure that the quality and temperature of the food match the high standards set by their service and ambiance. Update: I reduced the stars due to Black Bear Diner's automated nonhuman response to...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying we’ve been coming almost every weekend for the last few months, however the last two visits have been unacceptable. Starting with today and the pictures below, I placed my first ever to go order and was told it would be ready at 903am. I arrived at 855 and waited on the bench inside. At 9 I went to the counter and said I’m here for pick up when it’s ready, I was told it’d be a few more minutes as they were making the drinks…. 20 minutes later I finally get the food, I was standing by the pie display so I could see that right after they came back to tell me they were waiting o. Drinks that the server behind the counter just finished my drinks… so I watched my completed order sit there for twenty minutes. I asked multiple times if someone could please hand me the order (already paid for) instead they told me they would help me after placing other to go orders and letting others pay and leave. All I needed was someone to hand me my food that sat and got colder and colder. 4 minute car ride back home my suspicions were confirmed that everything was nice and cold… not sure if you’ve ever tried to eat cold eggs…. It’s not pleasant and my toddlers bear pancake looked like it went a few rounds with rocky before coming home with us….
Then there’s last weekend, after a twenty minute wait (normal for here no biggie) we were led to a table and asked since a booth had just opened up if we could sit there instead as it’s easier to keep the toddler in place… the hostess said sure no problem… (swapping a table for 4 with a booth for 4) well apparently this was a problem to the older hostess at the front who got heated at my wife for even suggesting we sit there as she had already told another family of three their table was ready and they were headed inside… not sure what the issue here was because we are a family of three and so was the other family they just have a teen vs our toddler…. But the rest of the meal we got to spend having this old hag glare, roll her eyes, and huff at us every time we went by the table.
Y’all had something great but you’re ruining it up there with petty issues…
UPDATE Mgmt reached out to email them so I did… no response to the email so you know your feedback...
Read moreWe went to the Black Bar Diner for Hubby's Birthday dinner treat. About 5pm on a Saturday, we expected it to be packed ,but it's much larger inside than it appears and they provide fat service. Our server was a very sweet young woman named Ambrea. We ordered coffee and I asked for a lot of creamer which is usually what every server gets wrong. No matter what you say, they bring two maybe three little pots, not big enough to accomplish anything. Ambrea brought out a bowl full. Since we'd never been there before we had a lot of questions. Ambrea never acted like she needed to go or we were bothering her.
Hubby ordered the chicken fried breakfast, and I had the Grizz with French toast on side. These were brought out on 4 platters, (yes, I said platters) which were just smaller than doormats. So be aware of big servings. Both meals had several different foods, so we could get a good idea of the cooking and ingredients. The breakfast meats were flavor rich, without being heavily seasoned, and not swimming in grease. The sausage links were superior. Hubby's eggs were suppose to be scrambled over med, but were were runny, even the egg whites, which means your grill is too hot, it happens. He had the biscuits which were the size of softballs. Except they were the consistency of cake, over baked, and hard on the top. The chicken fried steak was amazing, and the French Toast was an edible dream. But the pancakes stunned us. They were huge, and made you think of pound cake, cinnamon, and other home loved flavors.
There was a little gift shop area, and a counter where you can watch them cook your food. Reminiscent of the old diner days, without a single piece of Melmac in sight. It was quiet and you could hear your dinner companion talk. We had an amazing time and a great server. I can't recommend this diner enough. You need to go soon before...
