We enjoyed happy hour at Cru Food and Wine in the upscale Clearfork area of Fort Worth. Happy Hour runs Monday - Friday from 3:00 - 6:30 and includes $3.00 off each glass of wine or wine flights and several appetizers for $6.00 - $8.00 each: Wagyu Meatballs, Ahi Tartare, Goat Cheese Beignets, Fritto Misto and Margarita Pizza.
Pros - Wine flights are served with a laminated card including the names and flavor profiles of each. We enjoyed the Ahi Tartare that was served on crisps with avocado, cucumber, tomato, cilantro and citrus olive tapenade - equal parts crispy, creamy and refreshing… but desperately needed some salt. We also enjoyed the Goat Cheese Beignets which arrived lightly fried, creamy inside, drizzled in honey and sprinkled with black pepper - a perfect bite of sweet and savory! The dinner menu consists of cheese flights, appetizers, pizzas, and five “favorites” which include fillet mignon, roasted chicken, shrimp, salmon and short rib. The seating areas include a full bar and an outdoor patio for people-watching. Take out orders are easy with a reserved parking spot by the front door. Perfect for girl’s night, birthdays, graduations or celebrations.
Cons - The background music was a few notches too high for conversation, and one entire side of the restaurant, including the bar, was filled with people who where throwing a private party. The party was loud, the attendees were blocking the door going in/out to the patio area and allowing the air conditioning to go with them. While we still enjoyed our time, the party in this very small space was extremely overwhelming and the flow in and out of the front door/patio area created both a maze to get through and a fire hazard in an emergency. The Ahi Tuna lacked seasoning and there were no salt or pepper shakers on the tables. Service is on the slower side, especially when the servers are catering to big parties. Be sure to ask if they are hosting any big events when you call to make your reservations and reschedule your visit if so. Allow an additional 15 minutes to find a parking spot or to park in the parking garage as parking anywhere in Clearfork is...
Read moreI have the luxury of walking around my community from time to time here at Clearfork. Tonight, I wanted to take advantage of my walk to take a look at Cru, a local spot I’ve heard so much about. My birthday is in 3 days so I figured why not go see the wine bar nearby for a mature 30th bday experience. I walked in and immediately thought this has to be where I go Thursday night. Although no one greeted me I went up to the bar to ask for some water. The bartender dismissed me by telling me that there were no to go cups. I was curious about reservations but since I was completely dismissed I couldn’t even get a word in. I asked again if I could get a cup of water and the gentleman grabbed a random glass and didn’t even fill it halfway. Rudely, he began to try to give my friend who accompanied me, but she declined based on his attitude. I was so taken aback that I walked out. As we walked out, a woman walked out to tell me how rudely she was treated there too. I can’t say this will be your experience there but sadly I see I was not respected there. To think I pay rent to to experience this luxurious area and to be treated like a dog. I can assure you, Cru at this location especially if the bartender is there will never...
Read moreMy husband and I have been here on several occasions. I want to love it because it's in a pretty nice location and it's pretty cool looking. We agreed that the last time we went would be the last time we went. The food is pretty good but it's just good. It's a wine bar but several of the labels you can get at Kroger or you can do better at the Wines and More. It's very expensive for what you're getting, frustratingly expensive to leave underwhelmed ($103, the last time). Last, the service is pretty bad. I don't know what it is with this place but the employees always seem over it all. Last time we were there the manager got into several arguments with the employees in front of the customers. The time before he got into it a bit with us when we had the audacity to want cheese on our pizza. Seriously, I wish I had taken a picture. There was maybe a tablespoon of cheese. This last time we got the mushroom pizza and there were little particles of mushroom like maybe three mushrooms diced into pieces so small it was like a parent trying to sneak in a vegetable for a child ( yes!! I know!why did you order pizza again?) So that about sums it up. If you don't believe me see Gloria Reza's 2...
