I was super excited to try this place because I’m all about scratch kitchens. Piatello Italian Kitchen dominates in creating fresh and hearty Italian classics with housemade breads and pastas. While the quality of the food was certainly present and lived up to my high standards, the service was lacking. I had a reservation for 2 on the patio. Super simplistic setting, but I was not bothered by it, particularly because I was escorted with great company. We started off with drinks – one FunkyTown Punch and one Marasca Cherry & Cream. Superb, superb drinks! The FunkyTown Punch was perfectly blended with Titos, Lemon, Contratto Apertif, St. Germain, Simple Syrup, and topped with the BEST Maraschino cherries. Very light, fruity and quench thirsting. While it took forever to get them, it was well worth the wait. Our waitress, Brittany, came back to take our order for appetizers. We decided on the House Ricotta and Sourdough. It’s supposed to be a house favorite, and I wish I could tell you how it tasted, but we NEVER got it! Shortly after, Brittany came back to take our orders for the entrée, and we went with the Spaghetti Pomodoro Pasta and Summer Bianca Pizza. We waited for about 35-40 minutes for a busboy to bring out our dinner, that’s when we asked about the status of our appetizer. He was oblivious and decided to call our waitress, Brittany over. When she arrived, she looked at us dazed and confused, with her facial expression insinuating we never placed that order. I guess she forgot? She asked if we still wanted it with our entrée. That defeated the purpose of appetizers so we just passed. While I had Brittany at our table, I asked for chili flakes for our pizza. She brought them over about 20 minutes later, when our food was cold. While it was disappointing to eat our pizza cold, we did enjoy the pasta. It’s amazing how a simple spaghetti entrée can be turned into a gourmet dish. The pasta was freshly prepared of thick noodles with a semi-doughy texture. The Pomodoro sauce was gravy! Tomato season was in at the time we went so the sauce, made primarily of plum tomatoes, has a nice balance of sweet, acidic and tart flavors, sprinkled with basil and Grana Padano cheese. The Summer Bianca Pizza came with Ricotta Cream, Fontina Cheese, Restated Tomato, Pickled Fresno and Basil. The pizza looked super appealing, but after waiting 20+ minutes for our chili flakes, we didn’t enjoy it cold and soggy. We finished the night off with some Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta comprised of peach compote and shortbread crumbles. We ordered it strategically, right when our waitress came back with our chili flakes 20+ minutes later. We figured we’d get our dessert in the next 30 minutes or so, and we did. Certainly not the best Panna Cotta I’ve had, but it did the trick, satisfying my sweet tooth.

Read moreWent for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and had the spaghetti pomodoro, as I usually get a feel for a place by the quality of this simple dish. Very delicate flavors yet delicious and perfectly al dente, so I returned the next night with family. I must first say that if you are looking for 'ranch' on your pizza or a platter full of chicken alfredo and all you can eat salad, this is probably not your place. However, if you enjoy the exquisite flavors of carefully prepared dishes, wonderful presentations and attention to detail, you might find your home right here. We started with a special appetizer for that evening of a salad of baby squid with an aioli, a splash of young celery leaves and what just happened to be perfect accompanying ingredients (I can't remember them all - this item is not on the take-away menu the staff gave us) and were immediately taken with the quality and flavor: nothing fishy, very fresh and we couldn't get enough. We were treated to a sampling of Arrancini (lamb sausage and risotto balls with fontina and mint aioli) and the Spring Ravioli (ricotta and turnip with fava beans, mint, basil and a white wine sauce). These were done to perfection and the flavors were pure and clean. Once again, delicate, fresh, simple and fantastic. For en-trees: Bucatini Neri (black pasta with mussels, charred tomato, fennel and fresh spices in a white wine sauce), Crispy Spaghetti (braised quail, pancetta, kale, peppers, mushroom; only the bottom portion of the pasta is crisped) and a spaghetti pomodoro. The first two were a wonderful mix of ingredients with nothing overpowering but very complementary. And don't let the black pasta chase you away. It was killer. The pomodoro, as previously mentioned, was wonderfully delicate and flavored perfectly. We finished with a very good version of tiramisu, which I don't find very often. Probably the best meal I've had in 4-5 years. Several staff visited our table throughout the meal and the service was good, especially for a busy night. Before we left, the staff thanked us again for coming and invited us back. And I...
Read moreI was really disappointed in the experience that we had here. For the price we paid, the service was atrocious. First we waited 15 minutes for our waitress to even come to our table to get our drink orders, and when she did, she didn't introduce herself or act at all welcoming. Then when our food was delivered, it was handed out incorrectly. None of us had ordered these dishes before, so we didn't know what they were supposed to look like, however, my husband realized that his was wrong because he didn't have crab meat in his. When the waitress came to our table she said that we had the wrong plates delivered and we just needed to "do a little switcharoo" and had us move the plates around. The problem with that is we all had already eaten off of the plates. So my friends husband got his plate from me, I got my plate from my husband, and my husband got his plate from her husband. When I told her that we had all already eaten off of the plates she told me that the manager would come talk to us about the servers mistake. The manager never came, she didn't find it at all strange that we were now expected to eat off of plates that someone else already ate off of, and she didn't even bother offering to get us fresh, untouched plates. To be honest for the $20 per plate that you spend, it seemed appropriate to me that you would at least get fresh, untouched plates for your customers. When she handed out the checks I asked her if the manager was going to even come by to acknowledge that we all had to eat already eaten food, she laughed and said she would get him. She then came back to the table and said "we took the ladies desserts off of the check, the manager sends his apologies." The manager never came to the table to even apologize for the mistake, the waitress just acted like it was such a service to us that they removed the deserts, and wasn't at all apologetic that the manager didn't even have the capacity to do any type of service recovery. The food was 'okay,' it wasn't anything amazing, but it was fine, but the service was left to be desired. I can assure you we...
