Update: I returned for the first time since my original review a little over a year ago, and I'm happy to report the food tasted great, just like the old Pulido's! The service and atmosphere both remain excellent! We will definitely put them back in our rotation.
I hate to pile on, and I rarely leave negative reviews because I just never return to subpar places, but I'm going to this time because this place is close to home, and I want it to succeed.
As a regular customer from the pre-remodel years, I must say the new ownership group did a fantastic job. The place is clean, fresh and comfortable. Additionally, the staff were extremely friendly and management was very attentive to customer's concerns.
Unfortunately, those concerns were warranted as the food was below average at best. The salsa, was too tomatoey, and had an after taste of what I would describe as cocktail sauce like. My wife had flautas and I had the cheese enchilada plate. While the flautas were good, we both agreed the enchiladas had little flavor, while the rice and beans had no flavor. Not to mention they fell subject to my person pet peeve, plating the refried beans too early or leaving the plate under the heat lamp for too long, meaning they're drying out upon arrival.
I plan to return again and give them another chance since they've recently reopened and need time to work things out, however, I have little hope since many of these same food concerns have previously been documented here and on their Facebook page, but as of today, few changes...
Read moreI usually eat here at least once a month. Today, decided to get the cabellero platter and my fiancé got the flauta dinner. Our server was lacking customer service by far. Ordered the cabellero plate that comes with a steak and an old fashion enchilada. This is one of my go to meals here so I thought it would be a good choice. First off, they brought it out with a regular cheese enchilada on the plate. I asked the server if she could bring me an old fashioned enchilada and she argued that it came with the one that was on the plate. One reason I get this plate is for that old fashion enchilada. As I am waiting on the enchilada, I decide to dig into my steak. Every bite I took of the steak I had to spit out into a piece of my napkin. It was inedible! I then let the server know and she said she would bring me another. I am all about second chances so I said ok. The old fashioned enchilada that they brought me was way overdone. The tortilla it was wrapped in was so hard and the sauce was just not up to par. I was so disappointed because just a few weeks ago I came in and had the same thing and it was soooo good. I tried the second steak and again. Had to spit it out. My fiancé tried a piece and same thing, he couldn’t eat it. By this point I was truly frustrated and just wanted to leave. My fiancé had the flauta dinner and he said they were okay. Nothing to write home about. The only positive was the manager came over and apologized and took my meal off of our ticket. I am always raving about this place and I was truly...
Read moreI’d been to Pulidos many times over the past 3 decades but never this location. Since the one on Hwy 377 isn’t opening back up, we decided to try this location. I commented to my husband how I missed their salsa and queso. We arrived and were seated quickly. I liked the decor but the concrete floors made it a bit noisy during lunch time rush. Our waiter was super nice and kept good communication. Looked like owners/managers were walking around accommodating everyone who had a problem ASAP. First, I’d like to address the salsa. It was terrible. It tasted like tomatoes with a ton of either onion powder or garlic powder. I didn’t see any actual onion or cilantro or jalapeños in it. You need to get the old recipe. Second, we ordered queso, just the plain queso. It tasted like Velveeta. It was not good. The old recipe had peices of onion and pepper and no velveeta taste. Get the old recipe. We can make Velveeta at home. Other than that, I felt like the taco meat has significantly improved. And, the beans and rice were good. My only issue with my cheese taco was, once again, the Velveeta cheese sauce on top. The waitstaff was doing a phenomenal job. Anytime a restaurant opens, it takes several weeks to work out the kinks and to get it staffed properly. I plan on giving them a little time to make improvements and I will go back and give them another try. They seemed very willing to listen to customers complaints and were planning on...
