I really wanted to love this place. This location has housed many restaurants in the past, and my daughter and I enjoy trying new spots. We stopped by Sunny’s on 3/26/25 around 7:30 AM for breakfast.
After seating ourselves in a booth, a young server brought us menus and took our drink order—coffee for me, apple juice for my daughter. Drinks arrived promptly, and we placed our food order: Chicken & Waffles for her and Eggs Benedict for me. The waitress then asked if I wanted any meat. I declined, explaining that the Eggs Benedict already included protein. She seemed confused, opened the menu to check, and confirmed that it did.
When our food arrived, my daughter's waffle was borderline burnt. Luckily, once drenched in syrup, she didn’t mind. My Eggs Benedict, however, was disappointing. The eggs were overcooked, with yolks completely firm. The English muffin wasn’t toasted and had a tough, chewy texture, like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Instead of Canadian bacon, it came with plain ham—no big deal, except it was cold, seemingly straight from the fridge, with no attempt to heat or crisp it up. The hollandaise sauce was thick and jelly-like. The entire dish tasted like it had been assembled and then tossed in a microwave. After two bites, I was done.
Throughout our meal, the server never checked on us. Instead, she stood near the expediting table, busy decorating some cards with rhinestones. I only noticed because I had to get up to grab a box for my daughter’s leftovers. And then, right there at the expediting table, was “Chef Mike” (a microwave). If you're going to rely on him that much, at least keep him in the back—not out in the open for...
Read moreHaving moved to the DFW area from a small town, I was delighted to have found Sunny's Cafe! It has that warm and welcoming hometown diner feel to it! The owner and the waitress were both very friendly and kind!
My partner and I both ordered the Chicken Fried Steak special- I opted for sides of green beans and mashed potatoes, and my partner opted for sides of green beans and the fried okra! Our waitress came back and apologized that they were out of green beans, so I instead got the pinto beans, and my partner got the side salad! They gave my partner the mashed potatoes anyway free of charge for the inconvenience of no green beans.
The chicken fried steak was fantastic! It was steaming hot and served with plenty of gravy, which is just how I like it!
The pinto beans had a really great flavor as well! They were a bit on the salty side in my opinion, but not overly so. I ate them all, they were delicious!
My partner enjoyed his salad and fried okra! The salad is just your standard garden salad, but it was crispy and refreshing!
The special also included coffee or tea, which was a nice touch!
We also got an order of onion rings to share, and those were amazing! They were hot and crunchy without being overcooked!
This place serves breakfast all day, and we're looking forward to coming back to try their...
Read moreI've eaten breakfast here many times now. The service, food and value have always been excellent! When the restaurant advertised a Thanksgiving dinner that would serve 10 to 12 for $100, I was reluctant. I operate a prison and aftercare ministry with 15 homes, and we've always used Dickey's BBQ. The turkey wasn't smoked, obviously, but all the meat, even the white, was so moist. The owner carved it and had it in aluminum foil trays, white and dark meat at opposite ends. The green beans were flavorful, cooked with bacon and onions. The mashed potatoes were obviously fresh, complete with gravy on the side. It was an excellent meal! The total cost was around $12/person! We will no doubt have them cater for...
