I will preface this that we went to this particular taco spot in the Stockyards on Cinco de Mayo at lunch time.

The patio area is cute, they've got indoor and outdoor seating. The bar is in the middle, with access to both inside and outside. We sat inside at the bar. The bartender was very busy, but she did stop by and let us know that she'd be with us as soon as she could. So, we took that time to look over the menu so we'd have our drink and food order ready to go when she was available.

When the bartender had a moment, she was true to her word and stopped to grab our order and then made our drinks. She was very efficient in what looked like a stressful situation. It was Cinco de Mayo, on a Friday. Even though it was only noon, every table seemed to be celebrating with an alcohol beverage. Our sweet bartender was working overtime to make this happen, but she could have used some help. The whole restaurant appeared to be understaffed as we watched people waiting for several minutes at the hostess stand, then wait even longer at their tables to be greeted. To the managers credit, we watched him try to help pick up the slack, he was running food, bussing tables, and pitching in. I give our bartender 100 stars because she was doing the best she could in the situation.

On to the food. We ordered Chips and Guac ($10) for an appetizer. This was really good and tasted fresh. The chips were thick and easily scooped the guac. I ordered the crispy beef taco ($4.25) with a side of chili pineapple ($6). The taco was tasty and plenty of cheese and fresh cilantro, onion, and cabbage. The pineapple was ok, nothing spectacular; some fresh chopped pineapple with Tajin on top. I also ordered a cucumber jalapeno margarita ($10), this was ok. It was small and the sour mix was strong. It came with a slice of cucumber and a slice of jalapeno thrown on top, the cucumber and jalapeno taste were not muddled or incorporated into the drink. This came across as typical stockyard/tourist spot fare. Overpriced for the underwhelming drink.

I did notice signs advertising Margarita Monday ($5), Taco Tuesday ($2 for crispy beef), and Schooner...

Terrrrrrrrible. From start to finish it was a terrible experience. We got sat, it was 15-20 mins before anyone greeted us. We had to go up to the bar and ask who are waitress was. Bartender asked a couple of waitresses, everyone she asked was too busy to take our table. Finally got someone to help us, she was taking our drink order (4 people at our table) got two of our drinks and then another waitress interrupted her and asked her to take some chips and queso to another table. She left mid drink order to take the chips to another table. Finally came back and got the other two drinks ordered. Took 20 mins to get 2 beers. I asked for a water, never came. I got up and got myself a water from the fountain drink station the servers use, no one seemed to notice or care that a customer was as getting their own drink. Food: ordered chips and queso. It was the most liquidy queso I’ve ever seen, literally like water. Terrible. Our table ordered a variety of tacos, beef, shrimp, chicken… terrible. All of it was terrible. Tacos had no flavor, corn tortillas were dry. I asked for some limes to try and help it out in flavor. Didn’t help much. $100 later we fed 4 people. 🙄. Finished eating and we asked for our check. Waitress pulls out a device of some sort and says, “that’ll be $89.96”. What?! Where’s the bill? I’ve never in my life been to a restaurant that didn’t give you a bill to look at. Never again will I step foot...

Have never in my life experienced such bad service from a manager. Seeing the reviews from other people tells me they have had the same problem just didn’t realize she was the root cause. Staff was accommodating and nice. But she remained in the bar the entire time we were there even though she had a bar manager on the shift. We walked in at 9 pm with a group of 11. She told us it would be an hour wait because they had 2 big groups in front of us. So we decided to order food Togo and eat on the patio in 30 degree weather. Then upon getting our food and beginning to eat 20 minutes into our visit realized that the dinning room had cleared out during our arctic dinner. It was apparent that she wasn’t in the mood to serve a big group that late. Even though they closed 2 hours from the time we arrived. Then we came in and pleaded for a table as they were available. We still ordered more items because as we said the staff was nice and wanted to ensure they were tipped appropriately for our change in dinning. As any group would do we talked about our disbelief in the managers decision to try and discourage us from eating there. Then she sent the bar manager to explain to us that we wouldn’t be served any further and we had to pay our tab and leave because we were talking about her bad decisions and lack of service. Have never been kicked out of a restaurant in my life way to go Katy you lost a ton of customers...

Taco Heads is a decent restaurant with pretty good food! My Wife, friends and I stumbled across it when we went to explore the Stockyards. We all ordered a different appetizer: Queso, Guac and Fire Salsa all with chips! They were all good, especially the Fire Salsa! The chips were also bigger than regular tortilla chips and tasted fairly good. It had all the vibes of a good restaurant - what was lacking was the quality of the service. It took a while for us to get our food and we were the only people in the restaurant for a majority of the waiting time. The servers and staff were very nice! It was a Friday night so I'll cut them some slack. The tacos were savory and had a creative mix of veggies and meat. My favorites were the Al pastor and Shrimp tacos! If they improve the quality of their service and lower customer waiting times, Taco Heads has the potential to be good restaurant. My Wife also has some thoughts of her own: "We visited taco heads a few weeks ago and it was ok! The service took a long time and we were one of the only people in the restaurant but the food was alright. The chips are thick so if you order salsa or queso beware they are filling! They do taste pretty good and the queso is delicious! The tacos were good but nothing memorable. I got pastor and beef I think. I’d try it again another time but would order something different."

Staff were wonderful. But the food was quite lacking on making a basic taco. My son wanted an egg and cheese taco. Round 1 I’m sure it was a simple mistake but I think there was a malfunction on the salt placed on the taco. One bite of it and it was a mouthful of salt. My son had complained it was salty but was so hungry he ate half of it. I tasted I couldn’t get enough water. Unfortunately there were no refills given. It was super late, I get being understaffed. But when we were asked if we wanted a replacement when I let them know of the issue but I guess it was never ordered. 10 minutes into us standing awkwardly at our table ready leave, we finally got someone’s attention. They kindly got us another taco. Much better on not enough salt but wondering at this point if the cooking staff was mad about the reorder? We took the taco to go and I had to throw it out at our hotel as there was so much grease it had soaked through the wax paper, his paper menu and two napkins… I can’t imagine putting that much oil into something to cook an egg. Disappointing. I will say the avocado and corn taco I had was great. I enjoyed my meal and I’m not one to want to complain. But I would not order an egg and cheese taco here for a kid ever again. Sadly not edible.
