Heads up about parking: it will cost. And two, no restrooms! Which can make bringing children difficult.
So, there is no free parking close by this museum. Unless you park WAY out and walk far away. We ended up paying $10 because today, 3/18/23, was a special event. I think it’s normally $5 though. It was packed! There was a Patrick’s Day parade and different various events. But we kept trudging along to find a place to park because I wanted to get to the Duke Spirits tasting and book signing with Marissa Wayne event today only!
We got to sample #GoldHandleCoffee mixed with #DukeSpirits which was strong but delicious. We even got to keep the special tin cup as a souvenir, very generous! Today the store was also having a sale on goods in front of the museum.
Inside the exhibit, there are a lot of letters from friends of John Wayne. It interesting just how many people had such delightful things to say to the Duke. I loved seeing outfits from his movies on display and facts about his life/career. Most everything is reading, no interactive displays so, again, bringing children would be difficult as they will get restless pretty quickly.
I do recommend visiting if you’re a John Wayne fan, very nostalgic! The pricing is a bit high though, this could be a good date for couples if you both...
Read moreGreat experience! I absolutely love John Wayne and the family's effort in presenting their father's material. Ethan Wayne was there the first time we went. The museum has a lot of outfits, facts, and memorabilia. John Wayne was an icon growing up, and I've really enjoyed the films to this day. So, visiting this location was a must at the Fort Worth Stock Yards (I couldn't think of a better site for it either). The only minor critique is that the cashiers (often young kids) can have an attitude problem with customers. Yet, then again, most of the areas at the shop's Stockyards are like this (good help is hard to find, so go figure). Other than that, it's worth it for every John Wayne fan and someone looking for a cool outfit from their shop. So, grab a t-shirt, bumper sticker, ball cap, or their high-end items like a John Wayne cowboy hat and their collared shirts. I liked it and have visited the location every time we've visited the Stockyards. Its great to buy one of their cool Duke branded...
Read moreAmazing Museum! My wife and I took the trip up to Fort Worth from Austin and heard about this from some family who had visited a few years ago when it first opened and it did not disappoint.
If you are a John Wayne fan or admirer you will appreciate the detail to which his son and the rest of his family have put into curating this amazing story of the Duke's life and legacy as we know it today.
The museum features real set pieces from his films along with real set-worn wardrobes from his films such as The Searchers, The Alamo, True Grit and many more.
Call me sappy, but walking through the museum reminds you of better days when politics wasn't just what side of the aisle you were on but what was best for America. John Wayne brought the best out in everyone and this museum captures that...
