I will sum up this review with one sentence: a nice hotel at first but look more closely and its not as nice as it portrays. Stayed at this hotel for a training, upon arrival it looked like a very nice hotel. The lobby was nice and had two front desk attendants who were very helpful and nice. My room was 618, top floor facing the parking lot. In order to get into these rooms you have to go through some doors that only work if you pull up on the handle, strange but no big deal. I entered my room and was immediately surprised at how dark it was in the room even though some lights were on. Most of the switch button lights act pretty much like accent lights, not a lot of light. One switch did not work, I think this one went to the lamp in the corner by the couch. The only decent light was the one in between the beds. The next thing I noticed as I walked around was the smell. It kind of smells like BBQ smoke, but not the good kind. Smelt like burning wet wood. Never went away the three nights I stayed. Not a particular terrible smell but a different one from what most hotel smell like. The oddest feature of the room was the barn door to the bathroom. What a strange idea. As I slid the door opened you could see where the door had smashed into the drywall and left some big dents in the corners. I walked in to a bathroom that had two sinks, uncommon for most hotels. Looked really nice until you noticed that all of the plumbing was exposed underneath. Not something that I would expect in a 4 star hotel. The lighting in the bathroom was good, no problems there. The bathroom had a water closet and a nice shower that showed what the temperature of the water was, best feature of the whole hotel room. As I went to leave I noticed that the handle on barn door was smashed and bent to the side quite badly. There is not a stop on the door or the wall when you close it so the handle just smashes in to the wall, brilliant design. As I left the bathroom I began to notice scuff marks all over the room, once again pretty strange of a 4 star hotel to have. While in the water closet I noticed that part of the wall was repainted with a color that does not match the original color so it stuck out real bad. Also, the handle on the left sink faucet would pop off when ever you tried to use it. The beds slept fine, no problem. The alarm clock is annoyingly bright, make sure your lower brightness on it or else it will feel like someone shining a flashlight into your eyes the whole night. Speaking of night, the first one was terrible. You see room 618 shares a wall with the bathrooms used by the restaurant bar. From about 9:30 to 12:30 all I could hear every 15 minutes was someone slamming a door in the bathroom. Also the doors that you have to go through to get to your room were also being slammed about every 45 minutes. These doors when slammed would shake your door and even the walls. It was symphony of slamming doors for 3 hours, really just rocked me to sleep. Lucky for me my second and third night weren't as bad, guess the restaurant is not as popular during the weekdays. After a night like that I was looking forward to breakfast. A hotel this nice should have a fantastic breakfast, right? Not really, there was no variety at all. Two egg items, some sausage, some yogurt, some oatmeal, some fruit. No pancakes, no waffles, no bacon, never figured out if they had toast, no simple breakfast pastries. I have seen more options at significantly cheaper hotels. The food was good but they served basically the same thing every time I went to get breakfast for my stay. Very disappointing. My training held there was great and I have no complaints about that, the staff were very helpful and the items that brought for us to snack on were very good. Overall, this place is really pricey and with that price I expected a whole lot more than what I got. The main advantage of this place is its location, its real closed to the stockyards. However, at the same time there are other hotels that just as close. I would say pass on this one and try one...
Read moreThe design of this entire hotel (Springhill Suites by Marriott in the Stockyards, Fort Worth, Texas) is very depressing. I just got here and am very upset. I expected it to be much nicer. Also, it is advertised that the rooms have bathtubs and balconies — but it turns out that only the most expensive rooms have them. And there is not enough lighting in the room, no pen, no paper, no shower cap, no sewing needles & thread, no magnified mirror on bathroom wall (and the sink counter is out so far that it is really difficult to use the wall mirror to put on makeup). The room was not cleaned until late at night — they said that rooms with people leaving the hotel are cleaned first (before stay-overs). No towel racks except for one on the outside and one on the inside of the sliding shower door. The sheets are not changed. After a few minutes in a hot shower, it is so hot in the shower stall, that the sliding glass door must be opened, and water goes out onto the bathroom floor and bath mat, because the outside edge of the shower floor is very low — even if the shower head is adjusted (which is 10 ft. high, which most people cannot reach, anyway). The air/heat system sometimes entirely shuts down … because the “SYS”button, which is next to the “FAN” button, has been touched. Also, if you want the room warmer or cooler, one must push the “SYS” button twice and choose “HEAT” or “AIR” before choosing the exact temperature one wants … (in other words, the “SYS” Button, depending on how many times it is touched, controls both on/off and adjusting of temperature). There are no instructions anywhere … Front Desk does not know — so Maintenance has to come and explain. The TV had four (4) close to the swimming channels that would not work (including sports channels) … and this has not been fixed for over a week. Do not accept a room close to the swimming pool, because it is outside, right next to the hotel building, and the noise there is annoying. Even the design of the room is not good … because, when one is up early while the other person is sleeping, one must go around with a flashlight, because the light of the bathroom goes right onto the bed — and, if showering, that door must be open in order to stay cool enough … and, if one wants coffee early, a light must be turned on (unless one uses a flashlight) in a different area than the bathroom, that is placed where it will awaken someone still...
Read moreThis place is a health hazard, dirty and has mildew on the 3rd floor. My wife had to leave home due to a water leak. Shes had symptoms for over a year ranging from headaches, to allergic reactions to food, to bulging veins, to increased eye pressure, to more recently fragrance and chemical sensitivity- she can smell things most people can't and she even smelled the leak in our house before it appeared on our ceiling. No one else in the house was sick as she is, but she got uprooted to hotels ( when there was no mold or overwhelming smells of fragrance and chemicals) or to the car. Most hotels use a lot of fragrance and toxic chemicals so she was happy to find this hotel to not have a smell. She stayed the night, took a shower and saw a greenish blue blob on the shower head. She left and then phoned the manager to thank them for not using overwhelming smells but let him know mold could be there...he said it was hard water. Two weeks go by and my wife desperately wanted a place to take a long shower and a bed to sleep in so she books the hotel again. First room had mold in the glass shower rails, asked for a second room and it had an overwhelming smell of mildew which could mean water leak or mold, third room smelt of mildew and shower was lining was peeling. Not a good look for a $220 a night hotel. All these align with water damage, down to the repainted circles on the walls behind the toilet. Home inspectors will tell you people paint over water and mold damage normally and this was in two rooms. My wife called me crying saying she just wanted to lay in a bed. I went to the hotel, asked for a different room and this room had orange gooey residue popping out the seems of the shower. My wife said she would rather sleep in the car, than risk her health anymore. I asked for my money back and was told I'd have to call Priceline and manager. My wife called Priceline days later and Priceline called the hotel and they said she COULDN'T GET A REFUND! She called the hotel and a person named ADRIAN spoke horribly to my wife and even said that she COULD NOT RETURN! First, no one should be returning to that health hazard and second she spent over $400 dollars to have to sleep in a car! She contacted them and Marriott numerous times for two weeks but they did nothing. Horrible management, housekeeping and so called...
